We have this word "love"
a man named jose can love his car....
he can love his favorite tv program
he can love his wife
he can love God
and yet all of these are words describing a different state..
thus is the english language clumsy..
What is love?
I know that many things pass for love in this age..
Sexuality is abused daily in our society.. look at the role models that girls have to look up to... pop singers who throw around sex like a baseball.. catch...
everything is telling us to indulge in sexuality to the degree that it consumes our lives... for up at the top of the pyramid of social structure we are dollar figures... so we are manipulated constantly to be "loose"
sex sells... sex is not love... sex is good? no sex is a good... a good that is bought and sold...
so where does love tie into sex?
Sex is good. God is good. Sex creates life, and God creates life... in sex we participate in creation... this is possibly the greatest thing ever...
but how it is contorted... it barely looks appealing when it is so casually pushed on us for our so called satisfaction... they sell us shades, cologne, cars, houses, everything.
what do you think?

God is Love. God is the source of Love? no. God is Love.
Christ the Redeemer died a shameful death on a cross. he was spit on mocked slandered and tortured through no fault of his own. He died for the love of mankind, saving us all by his love.
Through marriage, a wife and husband lift up to God the love they share, participating fully in the majesty of heaven...
How is this so? is it not a caricature of marriage for both parties to be throughly miserable?
yes.. it is so... marriage is not what it can be in most situations... i see people fall in "love"
which would seem to be a momentary delirium caused by chemicals in the brain producing euphoria.
this is not love... i say that you dont fall in love at all... what passes for love is mere sentimentality and nothing else... and people wonder why marriages fail when they are built on feelings...
feelings are cheap. feelings are the physical response to thoughts. feelings are just as good as all of Gods creation, but we are not of God, we are influenced constantly at all times by great death and darkness, so our minds are open sewers... like the lobby of a building thoughts just flow in and out like daytime foot traffic...
What is Love?
what is love?
what is it?
what could that possibly be?
I think that real love always remains a mystery..
trying to pick apart scripture for self satisfaction is not love
for the word of God is not a some assembly required play set.
the word of God is a mystery...
the great mystery of love...

The word "love" in the bible comes from a two thousand year old Greek word which means "to help someone self-sacrificially" or basically "benevolence".
John 3:16 has the word "agape" for love. This is the word for benevolence. True encouragement comes from helping others

Love is -
Feeling His praises so deeply that it seems as though your heart is being squeezed out of your chest as the tears of loving gratitude for His mercy fall;
Looking at your baby's face for hours and marveling that anything that beautiful could come from your life;
Seeing the man you love walk into the room, smile at you and having everyone else disappear.

ha! it started playing in my head as soon as I read the title.

I think it's easier to feel love than to describe it.

Interesting how everyone's talking about the song now instead of the original topic :p (and btw...long time-no hear that song! xD )

Yes God is love - revealed to us by His son's sacrifice - and revealed to us each and everyday through His mercies and grace and blessings to us... Not such a mystery after all.... If we are vigilant, we can feel love in every detail of our lives...

And btw I love this quote too: "Love is in the air.. you can't see it, but you feel it..." (from the movie: "A walk to remember" --> Love it! : D )

What is love? For everyone the answer is different. At different times in our life it means different things. The only love that is constant and unchanging is God's love for us. THANK GOODNESS!

Mostly love is a choice more than a feeling. Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never fails.

Nothing about mushy gushy feelings those are action words.

Its amazing to me how we can look at the same verse and draw almost polar opposite meaning from it.

Love is not a business transaction. Its not a check in the box. It is not a thing to fall on a grocery list or to be done out of obligation. It is not calculating, methodical or cold. I don't believe love is a choice as much as it is an involuntary reaction.

You are right, it is not mushy or gushy, it is the truth. It is the strongest force in the Universe. It was love that compelled an almighty God to send His only Son, so that we might live.

LOVE.. WHAT IS IT?

Love can be confusing
In so many ways,
And to me it's because
It's used too loosely these days.

Some use it with deep meaning
From their heart,
Some it's just a game
From the very start.

Love is meant to be beautiful
With honesty and loyalty,
Not as I've experienced
Destroyed me mentally and physically.

He said them 3 words
because he knew what I wanted to hear,
It was deceit
I just so wanted to disappear.

I really don't know
How real true love feels at all,
I really hope that one day
To someone I be special, not a dam fool.

I think it's feeling and a choice. You can feel it but decide to ignore it and lock it in a hidden corner of your heart , or you can decide to feed it with your actions and let it grow till you feel soaked in it.
As you say basically, love is action through the feelings. When it's just a feeling without action, I think it's incomplete.
By the way, those are ones of my favorite Bible verses, thanks for posting them. :)

For some of us, it is that "feeling" and the actions that it brings about that make all of the suffering, unselfishness, sacrifice, kindness, humility, purity of thought about others, the quest for truth, patience, hope and endurance described above worth it. And experiencing it deeply is the thing that allows us a glimpse into the heart of God.
