The Bermuda Triangle was the first paranormal conspiracy I ever heard of (I'm talking preschool days here). I have absolutely no idea what it's about, so obviously I can't form an opinion one way or the other. If anyone is up on the news and wants to expostulate, I'd love to hear it.

Have you tried Google?

I thought it was an area in Bermuda where ships and planes tend to vanish at an alarming frequency. The area forms a sort of triangle, for those who like shapes.

Hello @Combanitorics, the Bermuda (or Devil’s) Triangle includes the Florida Keys, the Atlantic side of Puerto Rico, and Bermuda (those are the three points of the Triangle anyway + any small islands and, of course, the ocean waters that lie within the Triangle.

It’s a GREAT place to SCUBA dive because of all of the wrecked boats and planes that you can find under the waters there. Of course, that’s what the mystery surrounding the Triangle is all about (it’s because of all of the mysterious wrecks AND even disappearances over the years of boats and planes), and also why they call it, “The Devil’s Triangle.”

I heard someone say that there's a portal to another dimension there? :unsure: I also read an article that was supposedly debunked of an airplane from like the 60s that got lost and made landing in like the 80s and that the pilot said we need to leave because they didn't recognize the area since it had changed so much and they left and disappeared. I forget how the story went, who knows.
 
It's supposed to be a magnetic anomaly of the earth's magnetic field where the compass needle spins and does not show true north. Thus all the lost ships and planes. I watched a documentary on it years ago.

Thank you, yes, I have no doubt whatsoever that that is the clearest explanation on the internet. However, that is exactly what I'm confused about. I think it likely, reading that article and noticing the classical etymological constructions through ought the article, that it's likeliest that there is some branch or branches of newer life science and environmental science whose terminology I need to pick up before I master this mystery. But thanks anyway.

Easy answer. Someone - I don't know who - but probably involves US military - has a secret underwater base in the area. The missing ships/planes were deliberately crashed because they saw something we're not supposed to know.

The reputation of the area now serves as a convenient means of keeping others away, and an excuse for disposing of those who don't keep away who find something we're not supposed to know.
 
I have read and watched a lot of documentaries about this subject. Basically the Triangle is an area where lots of ships and planes go missing.

There are a lot of theories. The most credible that I have encountered is that fissures under the sea bed release methane and other gases. Bubbles coming up through the sea can capsize even large ships and destroy aircraft or cause the pilot to pass out.

Another theory points out that this is where NASA shoots all the rockets that are supposedly going to space. Maybe any witnesses to rocket recovery get sunk or shot down by the military.
 
It is my understanding that it was a bunch of hype that was put out there to sell a book. I read about it or saw something on TV many years ago that the percentage of actual ships. planes or whatever that have dissapeard in the Bermuda triangle are no higher than anyplace else on the ocean. It just seems higher because that part of the ocean has a larger amount of boat & aviation traffic.

I think that's absolutely fascinating. I've heard other such stories of people disappearing and really loosing time and identity (in the sense of proof paperwork) in totally other places in the world. It's usually a very many time zones of one hour each away.

Actually, I'm actively studying this. This is Lobachevski triangulation studies. There is also a county of township in California very near Palm Springs called Bermuda Dunes, and the boundaries of it on a state survey map are in fact triangular.
 
Have you learned about the underground dumbs or tunnels that lead to the Bermuda triangle yet?
 
I have not. The problem with most books on such subjects is that they are fairly secretive and conspiratorial. Some people only really seem to write books for those who are already "in the know" and just don't ever seem to practice clear grammatically correct expository writing.
