The division occurs immediately,
The being cast into the LOF doesn't. That is over a thousand years after Christ returns.

Ar his return, he tells the goats to depart from him into the fire reserved for satan and his angels (vs 41).
No, that is not what happens when he returns. It happens after satan is imoprisoned, after a thousand years of the rod of iron rule over the nations, after satan is released and bring an army to Jerusalem, after that army is burned by fire from God the Father, after the second resurrection of "the rest of the dead", after the Great White Throne Judgement (GWTJ) only Nat that time will they be cast into that fire.

Then explain this,

And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed in that day. 2Thes.1:7-10
Just because something is written a sentence or two away does not equal a short period of time. Revelation explains that there is a huge amount of time between the first resurrection and the second one.

A massive amount of people die from fire because, "the Lord Jesus shall be revealed fromheaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire".
He comes in flaming fire not using flaming fire. All it means is he comes very fast like how fast flashing lightning is. In zero second coming passages does Christ ever use fire against his enemies. He uses the Word which is symbolized as a sword from his mouth.

the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavenss hall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 2Pet.3:10

That happens after the Great White Throne Judgement (GWTJ) and LOF second death, seen in Revelation 21. There are no mortals on the planet when the NHNE happens and the old are gone.

The GWTJ, the LOF and the judgement seat of Christ are all the same, because the presence of God is a consuming fire,

And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Rev.22:12-13

the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up......the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat 2Pet.3:10,12

each builder's work will be plainly seen, for the Day will make it clear, because it will be revealed by fire. If someone's work is burned up, he will suffer loss. He himself will be saved, BUT ONLY AS THROUGH FIRE 1Cor.3:13,15

Look at what they're saying.
Everyone is going to be exposed to the presence of Christ in glory.

And that is the timeframe of Revelation 21, the New Heaven and new Earth which is LONG after the second coming. "the day of the Lord" is not exclusive to the second coming.

Isa_13:9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

This isn't the day of the second coming because sinners aren't destroyed until the GWTJ. So this "day of the Lord" differs with the "day of the Lord" associated with the second coming.

Eze 13:5 Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD.
Eze 13:6 They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word.

And here is a completely different "day of the Lord" not associated with the second coming or the day the Lord casts sinners in the LOF.

There are MANY days of the Lord. A day of the Lord is a day when God does something important. There are many of them.

2Pe 3:7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
2Pe 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

The context here is clearly not the second coming but the day of the GWTJ. This is the day Peter describes:

Rev 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

““I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever” (John 14:16)
The operative word there is....may.
Providing......!.... or He may not.

"may" was actually added by translators so that it would be more readable in English.
Compare with John 10:17,
For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again.” (wasn't talking about something optional)

So no, the English usage of "may" in John 14:16 is not a conditional clause.

To emphasize, Jesus said that all of His sheep "will never perish" (John 11)

There are MANY days of the Lord. A day of the Lord is a day when God does something important. There are many of them.
OT prophecies have a double meaning. For instance, the message in Isaiah 13 is continued in chapter 14 where God says,

Prepare slaughter for his children Isa.14:21

He's talking about satans children.

2Pet.3:7-10 is the same as this,

the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire,
inflicting vengeance upon those who do not know God and upon those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They shall suffer the punishment of eternal destruction and exclusion from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at in all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed. 2Thes.1:7-10

This is the day Peter describes:

Rev 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Works are judged at the judgement seat of Chris,

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 2Cor.5:10

Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 1Cor.3:13

The holy city is the Bride of Christ, transformed believers in their new bodies.
