as for superstitions, here is one that my mother had

Never put a mirror opposite the bed. I'm not too sure why but its a Chinese superstition to do with either ghosts or devils snatching your soul away or a portent of death.

Or its simply bad feng shui
Mostly it's just that nobody wants to see himself in a mirror first thing in the morning.

This one I've heard too in the south and actually had co workers hands put over my mouth. If it's slow and you say" busy" seems it goes at warp speed.......lol
It was just coincidence. What really happened was somebody in the store said to himself, "Well if there's no business right now I can get some stocking done" and as soon as he reached for something to stock, BOOM!

I too have heard one about knives. If you give someone a set of knives make them give you a penny's price so your friendship won't be cut.
Interesting about the knives. What's your take on scissors?

Yes, it's fun to search out old wives tales and see if others think their true or bogus.

Like the 5 second rule.
If you drop food you have 5 seconds to get it and it's still bacteria free......
Not true according to scientist, foods attraction by bacteria starts IMMEDIATELY.

Not supposed to give scissors as a gift to someone you love because it is supposed to cut the love and sever the relationship.

Maybe that only applies to materialistic people. A pair of scissors probably wouldn't be a very impressive anniversary gift to some folks though.... So maybe that's were the old saying comes from...lol:p

I never trusted that saying.

Not sure if they are official superstitions, however, have been to some professional sports games. When my team got down other fans would holler things like lets turn our hat inside out and backwards, turn your shirt inside out, put your shoes on the wrong feet, and etc. Either these were real unknown superstitions to me to help your team rally from behind or when I was walking up to find my seat they said get a load of this rube wonder what kind of stupid stuff we can make him do....LOL
Kind of like the whole what would you do for a Klondike Bar, huh? :p

Except you didn't even get a Klondike bar out of it:giggle: lol

Same here...I've carried Lysol and hand sanitizer in my car and everywhere I go... way before it was the cool and the popular thing to do. lol

I was thinking about getting a fresh pair of scissors but perhaps I will ponder the possible ramifications for such an act. For the record though, I believe in traveling light and not really into material extravagant things. :)

Actually, I make it a point to not run when holding scissors. I think an elementary teacher taught me this way back in the day when I was a lad and my dog Yankee was a pup. Actually, Yankee came much later. He went to heaven in 1992. He was a good dog. He's waiting for his daddy and when we're together again we'll have a good time then.

Same here. I've never been materialistic myself.

You should be good with buying a pair of scissors, though. It's highly possible some greedy person made that saying up...lol:)

What you have said makes a lot of sense. I still won't be running when holding a pair of scissors though. I always hold the pointy end inside my hand just to be on the safe side.

Question: Rock, paper, scissors?

For sure...I learned that lesson as a child. Got my scissor privileges taken away a few times over it before I learned my lesson, though...

Then, one time I decided to cut my own hair when I was around 6 and after looking in the mirror :eek:I suspended my own scissor privileges.

Took 'em to my mom and told her to lock them up, throw them away, or whatever because I never wanted to be around scissors ever again...lol

I kind of looked like this little girl for a while...until my hair grew back out.

So yeah, scissors can definitely be dangerous in many, many ways. :giggle:

My ex MIL used to tell the grands.....If they had a wart on their fingers to hide a dirty dish towel where no one can find it and the wart will go away🤷‍♂️
That is no superstition that is a frame up. I can see it now I would have heard that ran and hid the towel under my bed. My ma come in later and gather up stuff in my room and low and behold find a dirty dish towel under my bed.

With raised eyebrows and a perplexed look she would look over at me as she held it up. Only for me to say grandma told me to do that. With her then saying let me see if I understand this grandma told you to put a dirty dish towel under your bed. Now when I answer yes she did, I am in trouble cause that sure sounds like a dinger of a lie, so yeah that is no superstition that is a frame job....LOL
