having lived in georgia my whole like, i know how the south has been demonized for slavery, as folks act like it did not take place anywhere in the world but here.
they were still " indentured servants" in trinidad until the early 1900's......
Slavery in the South was despicable. It was racist, it was abusive, and it was sin.
That said only 5% of the South had more than 2 slaves, the plantations that were guilty of these crimes. They represented about 2% of the total US population.
25% of Southerners had 2 slaves, usually a husband and wife, the wife would help inside with the housework and the husband would help outside with the farmwork. As a rule there was nothing of the abuse you see in the big plantations. It was racist, it was abusive, but if someone watches some movie of the worst horrors on a plantation and thinks that is what was going on with all Slaves is greatly mistaken.
Still for blacks it is reasonable to say that they were all, 100%, a victim of the racism. This was by design. The reason they went to Africa to shop for slaves was so that if they ran away they would stand out.
But then there were other sins that have to be factored in. Pastors taught Bible doctrines to justify the racist slavery, that is something that God will surely judge harshly. Southern slavery violated Biblical slavery on several key areas. In brief Biblical slavery was pretty much exactly like an NFL contract, clearly nothing like the slavery in the South. These lying pastors will have to make an account of their lies at the judgement.
Then after the Civil War there was an inherent bias in the depiction of blacks on radio, TV and Hollywood which was disrespectful, insulting, and reprehensible. Madison Avenue and anyone else responsible for this will have to give account at the judgement seat.
On the bright side we have had some wonderful people who have led the way up out of the pit of racism. Jackie Robinson, and many, many others. We have come a very long way in my lifetime. My uncle's house in Ms was bombed by the KKK in the 1960s. The path that we have taken in the last sixty years to get out of that pit was hard work and being an example to others. This latest wave of whiny CRT brats has been a big step backwards and these children are being used by the most evil of people. They want to "defund" the local police forces so that a national gestapo like police can step in.
Whoopi Goldberg is either a complete idiot stooge, or one of the most evil people on the planet.
I would also point out that my great grandfather escaped from slavery.
