Yep, it's not a riddle, but a prophecy. Reassurance of the second coming.
Amen it’s a witness of what God has said all along faith tells us just as God speaks it always and forever comes to pass. Just like the ot proclaimed the messiah would be born of a virgin , and be Gid with us

“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭7:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

would receive the spirit and preach Gods judgement and law

Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles….: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭42:1, 3-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

and God would declare this was his son

“I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭2:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

and preach the everlasting word of God

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:35‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The prophets and law also witness He would perform Miracles , would be betrayed by one of his closest friends , that the rest would scatter when this happened

leaving him alone to be rejected condemned and suffer for the sins of the people , be pierced through his hands and feet , would not suffer a bone to be broken , who’s persecutors would cast lots for his garments and give him vinegar to drink when he thirsted ,

he would die for the peoples sins , and be raised agains three days later would be taken up to Gods right hand and would send the Holy Spirit into the earth

then would preached to Jew first and then gentile witnessed to all nations to gather Gods elect together as one people to fill his eternal kingdom and many more events fulfilled on the gospel

his return will also be just as he spoke and it is written When the time is come
And the New Testament has come to a conclusion

of we can come to the understanding of one cohesive and exhaustive message of Jesus Christ found in the law , prophets and psalms , fuflilled in the gospel and yet being fulfilled we can know he’s coming one day maybe tomorrow or
Maybe in a thousand years who knows but he is coming and will appear just as he appeared when he left to the eyes of believers who look for him

the Bible doesn’t seem as complex because we’re only Looking for the one message of Christ throughout law ,
Prophets and epistles it guards our minds And hearts in truth having many witnesses of the same

A lot of folks don't come to the Lord with an open mind, they have a pre-existing narrative and doctrines, when they read the bible, they selectively pick some key verses, sometimes key passages to fit into their narrative and to back up their doctrines. We could be reading the exact same bible version and reach completely difference conclusions. That's why an exegetical approach must be taken, we must let the bible interpret itself. It's like follow the evidence to the suspect, not follow a suspect to circumstantial evidence.

couldn’t agree more the old witnesses the new and the gospel fulfills it . and the new witnesses now and future . To let scripture teach us from the old to new becomes faith that is immovable and the at brings the dying to life eternal

letting scripture explain itself also allows us To learn and grow by faith never having too much to live up to and never rejecting what is being revealed from faith to faith and glory to glory also making it impossible for us to judge each other

the progressive nature of faith is something that keeps us safe and builds trust as we learn and grow and begin to live by that faith

I couldn’t agree more with what you said good stuff scriptire always creates a mystery but always explains the mystery all On its own and never strays into
Mans thinking , but instead imprints the thinking of Christ on believers

amen to this part also highlights the danger and effect of following subtle doctrines that stray from truth

“ do we really need to get baptized “

“ paul Preached a different gospel “

“ what Jesus said is only for the Jews “

“This question and that doctrine “

We can come to the Bible believing what people told us or what we figured should be or we can become as little children who don’t know anything yet
But listen to the fathers words

“And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“and said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”
‭‭John‬ ‭12:49-50‬ ‭KJV‬‬

children begin to learn from thier father
And don’t have any pre conceived ideas about the world or his ways before they hear them and learn

The question in the OP should be the least mysterious and most obvious aspect regarding the second coming. Jesus went up on a cloud from Mount Olives, He comes down on a cloud to Mount Olives. Some folks deliberately muddy the water to create confusion, which may give them an opportunity to slip some of their own doctrines into the Word of God.

You see, the first time He came as a suffering servant, the second time he comes as a glorious king. However this order is completely flipped over, around the time of His birth, the messiah was expected to arrive as a glorious king to liberate the Jews and smash the Romans into smithereens; and now He's expected to secretly pop out of nowhere and "rapture" his church. Many patriotic, courageous and honorable pastors are preaching this, and most folks are buying into it. This is really sad.

When you think like a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Whooda thought the words "return in like manner" would point to the Lords return????

Are you aware of the thread title?

But i am one of the few pointing out the bizare inconsistencies postrib doctrine embraces in direct conflict with the ascension in acts.

OP asked about HOW the Lord will return, not when, so keep your heresy to yourself and save it for another place at another time.

Amen

“so Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many;

and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭9:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

it’s truly sad how many false doctrines exist now but we were warned beforehand and it’s come to pass everything is so distorted

preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth,

and shall be turned unto fables.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4:2-4‬ ‭

we can share the word everywhere we go in life the word that is already there and people May hear those doctrines really Make it harder for the truth to enter in

it’s sad because people go to church and trust thier pastor to be preaching the word of God but often times they are preaching from ideas and doctrines established after the word was spoken clearly

it is extremely disheartening when the simplest thkngs in scripture plainly stated produce many “interpretations “ to explain them away and offer alternatives

but the truth can out do fallacy in believers and so many still believe wha there and share it with each other and others in life in hope that they will hear and turn to his word for understanding of what he said . Prayerfully and desiring to know

Seems simple now but once long ago was confounding

God bless brother , thank you for the conversation in the spirit of the word

What does 'in like manner' mean in Acts 1:11, which reads:

"Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. "
Jesus gave a crystal clear answer to this question at his trial in front of the high priests:

“I AM. And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming with clouds of heaven.” (Mark 14:62)

So don’t act like the high priest tearing his clothes and yelling - “BLASPHEMY”! Like manner means like manner, only thing different is the audience, which will not be just a bunch of Galileans, but the entire world.

Thanks Carry_Your_Name. I like the Mark 14 verse you mention. What do you consider the term "clouds of heaven" to mean? Does it mean clouds like we normally see when we look up in the sky, or true believers (as in Hebrews 12's 'cloud of witnesses'), or something else?

Coule be dressed in a bloody red robe and riding a white horse - which is on a cloud, along with armies of heavenly hosts, according to Rev.19:11-16. This "cloud" is probably just clouds in the sky since that's the way He ascended.

Thanks Carry_Your_Name. I appreciate hearing your opinion. Since the scripture of Jesus on a white horse has a lot of potential for metaphor (parable) interpretation, could this be the same with the cloud mentioned in Acts 1? For example, Jesus has a sword coming out of his mouth in Rev 19: "out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: " This is considered literal by some but since we know that the word of God is referred to as the sword of the Spirit in the Bible it does seem like words are more likely to come out of a mouth than a metal physical sword. Don't you think this is more likely a picture of the words coming out of his mouth. Similarly, we are told in the Bible that God has made Judah his horse: "for the LORD of hosts hath visited his flock the house of Judah, and hath made them as his goodly horse in the battle " Since Jesus is on a white horse, perhaps this is a metaphor or parable picture of the people of God, whom Judah represents. Judah, after all, is the widest possible picture of the location of Jerusalem, the city of God, which is a picture of God's people, the true believers. God does say he has made the flock of persons his horse. Interesting language really.

That's a really nice catch. Yeah, Bible uses a set of code language. When God created all kinds of animals and let Adam name them, those were not just wild animals, some of them are often used to describe certain characteristics which they possess - Lamb for obedience and purity; Lion for kingship and authority; Ox for wealth and strength; Goat for stubbornness and disobedience; Serpent for Satan and evil; "beasts of the field" are lawless men who are acting like beasts in God's eyes, and "birds of the air" are the angels and the spiritual forces they possess. In the parable of the sower, those seeds scattered on the wayside were snatched by the "birds of the air", later when He explained it, those were picked up by Satan, and since Satan is "prince of the air", those "birds" are His fallen angels.

As for horse, though, it's often associated with warfare, and it symbolizes war machines and military power. That makes perfect sense in Rev. 19, because whether Jesus literally rides a white horse - or should I say, a Pegasus? - or not, He comes to judge and make WAR! And those "birds that fly in the midst of heave" in 19:7, those are likely to be angels who come along with Jesus to destroy the Beast's forces down on earth.

Exactly.
You just nailed it WHY rev 19 , the second coming to earth with the saints, is in NO WAY ,the rapture.

Thank you.

those items speak against, not for, Acts 1 being a "like manner" of rev 19.

Actually thank you for pointing out yet another pretrib rapture dynamic.

Yes indeed, there is no sword in Jesus mouth or white horse in acts 1.
You are really wanting it to work out, but it is radically different, and simply proves the exact opposite of what postribbers need the bible changed into.

It is the equivalent of Ukraine 6 weeks ago vs today, and postribbers saying; "oh no, Ukraine is the exact same....see the clouds??"

Huh??????
The sky makes it the same thing?????

You guys are hurting yourselves so badly.

I think it’s just that your off subject a bit . If you start a pre trib rapture theead people will come argue with you about the timing of the “rapture. “

This is a bit off subject but have you noticed why his robe will appear dipped in blood and how it is fore spoken in the law and prophets ?

Judah is a lion's whelp: From the prey, my son, thou art gone up: He stooped down, he couched as a lion, And as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh come; And unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

Binding his foal unto the vine, And his ass's colt unto the choice vine; He washed his garments in wine, And his clothes in the blood of grapes:”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭49:9-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭5:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭63:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. …And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭19:13, 15‬ ‭KJV‬‬
