I was thinking they should just have slime at the oscars, it would be more entertaining than the usual boring humble brag, self-aggrandising, glitzy glamour of the event.

There are many today who are wrongfully claiming that this whole incident was staged.

Believe me, it wasn't, although I wish that it was.

How can I be so sure that this was real?

Well, just read Smith's acceptance speech that he gave later on in the night.

Here is a transcript:

"Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family. In this time in my life, in this moment, I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world.

Making this film I got to protect Aunjanue Ellis, who is one of the most strongest, most delicate people I ever met. I got to protect Saniyya and Demi, the two actresses that played Venus and Serena. I’m being called on in my life to love people and to protect people and to be a river to my people.

I know to do what we do, you gotta be able to take abuse, and you gotta be able to have people talk crazy about you. In this business, you gotta be able to have people disrespecting you and you gotta smile and you gotta pretend like that‘s OK.

But Richard Williams, and what I loved, thank you D. Denzel (Washington) said to me a few minutes ago, he said, “At your highest moment, be careful. That’s when the devil comes for you.”

It’s like I want to be a vessel for love. I want to say thank you to Venus and Serena.

I just spit, I hope they didn’t see that.

I want to say thank you to Venus and Serena and the entire Williams family for entrusting me with your story. That’s what I want to do. I want to be an ambassador of that kind of love and care and concern.

I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees.

This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people. Tim and Trevor and Zach and Saniyya and Demi and Aunjunue and the entire cast and crew of “King Richard” and Venus and Serena and the entire Williams family.

Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said. I look like the crazy father just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things.

To my mother. Um, a lot of this moment is really complicated for me, but to my mother. She didn’t want to come out. She had her knitting friends, she has a knitting crew watching with her. Being able to love and care for my mother, my family, my wife.

I’m taking up too much time. Thank you for this honor, thank you for this moment. I thank you on behalf of Richard and Oracene, the entire Williams family. Thank you. I’m hoping the Academy invites me back. Thank you."

Whereas Smith tried to compare himself to Richard Williams who was "a fierce defender of his family", in reality, Smith was "a fierce ATTACKER of another man". And not just another man, but a COMEDIAN who simply made a joke, and a Hollywood movie-related joke at that in regards to "G.I. Jane".

Was Chris Rock's joke a bit out of line in that Smith's wife's head is basically bald due to her condition of alopecia?

Sure, but she definitely wasn't in any sort of real danger, and therefore didn't need to be "fiercely defended" by Smith's violent act.

Here's where it gets REALLY SCARY.

In case you don't already know this, both Will Smith and Denzel Washington claim to be Christians.

With this in mind, consider again what Smith said.

He said:

"I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world."

What?!?

If you honestly think (and he does) that God is calling you to go and physically assault another man, and on national TV no less, then you're greatly deluded.

Neither God nor Christ had anything to do with your sinful actions.

Ironically, if anybody truly represented the teachings of Christ in any way, shape, or form, then it was Chris Rock who basically "turned the other cheek" after you violently assaulted him.

It gets even worse.

Smith went on to say:

"I’m being called on in my life to love people and to protect people and to be a river to my people."

Again, what?!?

Smith honestly believes that he's being "called on" BY GOD, in context, "to love people and to protect people" by slapping another man in the face and then cursing at him.

If this wasn't bad enough, then it gets worse still.

Smith continued on to say:

"Thank you D. Denzel (Washington) said to me a few minutes ago, he said, 'At your highest moment, be careful. That’s when the devil comes for you.'"

Again, what?!?

First of all, if "your highest moment" is receiving a vain award as an actor, then God help you.

Secondly, by stating "That's when the devil comes for you", Denzel Washington, another deluded man, was clearly implying that Chris Rock was "the devil" while condoning Smith's slapping of him.

Smith continue on further still:

"It’s like I want to be a vessel for love."

Then stop violently assaulting people and cursing at them.

Again, Smith said, and this might be the scariest thing of all:

"This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people."

This alleged "beautiful moment" in which Smith was allegedly "shining a light on all of the people" was a moment in which he violently assaulted another man and then cursed at him.

If you read the rest of Smith's "apology" (read: "delusionary self-justification"), then you'll notice that he "apologized" (yeah, right) to the academy and to his fellow actors and actresses, but he never apologized to Chris Rock, the man who he ASSAULTED.

Anyhow, like I said, this wasn't staged, although I truly wish that it was.
I tuned into the Oscars just for a minute and that is what I got to see. I could not understand what he was talking about and only later, after all the news about the incident, did I connect his words and tears to slapping Chris Rock.

Didn't he make a public apology to Chris Rock? This seems to be a lead in with most of the news channels. First off we are told the Oscars are boring and no one watches them. Then, this is all over the news as if nothing else is going on.

It's like some kind of two step love and hate relationship

I don't watch the Oscars, seldom watch anything but news. But I'm seeing in the news that actor Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock over a slight to his wife. Now I don't care much about the reasoning behind it all. But have we as a society snapped a chain?! We use to consider ourselves a civilized country. Now people are beating each other on national tv? Getting to the point that I'm afraid to step outside my door without being armed.
It wasn't exactly a good example of how to deal with a wordy insult, no matter how crass the joke might have been. A better response perhaps, if it was so hurtful and warranted an instant protest, would have been to have stood up and asked the man to stop using his wife's illness as a joke, and if no apology was given then for he and his wife to get up and walk out. Just my 2c worth!

well, Im not really caring about a quarrel between two american actors. They prolly do that all the time on and off camera.

the big news is Jane Campion, a NZer, and woman, won best director.

Apparently that has never happend before. shock horror

For directing an american film but its filmed in NZ. so thats kinda weird too. Otago is now a stand in for Montana.
NZ was where the American movie, Lord of the Rings, was filmed, too. Beautiful place!

Lord of the Rings was NOT american!

what are you even talking about. Have you READ Lord of the Rings?!

Middle Earth is not in America. Its a fantasy land, and JRR Tolkien was British. some of the actors in the movie were American, that's all.

Is a slap in order for claiming what isnt yours? lol

Peter Jackson is a nzer, so not sure why anyones trying to claim LOTR is american. Oh well, used to it, like Australians wanted to claim pavlova and Phar Lap,

and everyone else wants to host the Americas Cup, even though Team NZ actually won it. You know, by sailing, rather than corporate bribery.

Are you sure? Gollum reminds me of Biden (Biden appears to be morphing from Smeagol into Gollum). Likewise Boromir reminds me of RINOs. The goblins remind me of the Democrats afraid of the light, now granted the Orcs definitely are from NZ, but how about Aragorn backed by all those dead people. Reminds me of the 2020 election in the US with all the dead supporting Biden.

Now hold on a second, at the very end of the story all those like Bilbo and Frodo who were "lord of the Rings" sailed to America. Besides the eye of Sauron is on the US dollar bill.

To be clear, I was talking about the movies, not the books.
Two of the production companies were American and one was NZ.
Soooooo.... funded mainly by American production companies and filmed in NZ.
I didn't say Middle Earth was in America.
And I don't need a slap. ;)
Tag, you're it!

Just watched a body expert break down the slap and his opinion is that this was real emotion from Smith and not scripted or an act.

If that is the case then Will Smith needs psychiatric help. Same week we learn about Bruce Willis we also learn about Will Smith.

I suspect as the curtain is pulled back from the man behind the curtain we will see Hollywood crumble and devour one another. I suspect the various scandals and sins have a very corrosive effect on these people and we will see the entire "emerald city" go up in flames.

still dont think LOTR is american, why are the hobbits talking in Irish accents then

also, I have been to Hobbiton and Im telling you its not in America, nor funded by Americans. lol

Besides, they dont even need the gold statuettes when they spent most of the film chasing after a ring.

I was reading a bio of Vivien Leigh and everyone was shocked that an English actress took on the role of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind. The Southerners were miffed and said well better a English actress than a Yankee.

Also, apparently Scarlett slapped Prissy a few times in that movie. In the end she did a stunt slap cos she was hurting her too much.

Prissy lied and said she knew everything about birthing babies, when she didnt. Scarlett got angry.
It was nothing to joke about when Melanie was about to give birth with no doctor.

Oh and there was a war on.

that was back on 1860s or thereabouts, so really nothing new.

I do think Scarlett might have needed some anger management but what else could she do. ?! PLUS not only did she slap Prissy she killed a yankee trespasser and covered it up.....

Will Smith originally started laughing at Chris' joke, it wasn't until Jada shot Will an angry glance that Will took action to appease her.

This should be the poster child of a new scourge - TOXIC FEMININITY.

Oh, I think the Shire is definitely in England, maybe in Norfolk. Elves were probably in Ireland until they sailed over the sea to America. Boromir and Faramir seem French to me, and the dwarves are Eastern European.

But Mordor seems like something straight out of the Industrial Revolution either Germany or the US.

Mordor/Mt Doom is mt Ngauruhoe in the Tongariro National Park

The other two mountains are volcanoes as well
Mt Tarawera blew up in 1863 and killed over 120 people
Mt Ruapehu last errupted in 1995

I have been up Mt Ruapehu, theres a big crater lake up there, a big lava flow (lahar) happened in 1953 causing the Tangiwai disaster where a train got derailed and fell into the river also killing 151 people

yea.
As far as I know Mt Ngauruhoe hasnt killed as many ppl as the other volcanoes.

I can believe that Uruk Hai are New Zealanders (they look like your rugby team), but c'mon man, NZ is mordor? Just not believable.
