haha well the Shortland Street actors needed to do something in their downtime.

Mordor...could have been any killing field, like Somme in France or..Cambodia. But they needed a mountain for Mt Doom. Its the most important part of the story, otherwise, how could they lose that ring. ?!

Yep, when I saw the Uruk Hai being born in the mud that is when I realized they were rugby players.

Mordor is an industrial wasteland I figured either Germany or the Detroit.

well, as christians maybe everyone should just pray for Will and Jadas marriage I dunno.

As they are all actors, I wouldnt expect them to be strangers to public humiliation. Unfortunately when you mess up live, everyone sees it.

it seems like Will Smith has apologised and resigned from the academy

as for Chris Rock, everyone knows hes a comedian, but not sure that he can land every joke. sometimes his comedy isnt funny, comedy CAN be hurtful. But not sure if most people get that kind of ill humour.

Biblical parallel? David and Michal...when Michal was censuring David for dancing near naked in the street.

sometimes women can get offended over every little thing. Michal, it wasnt YOU dancing naked.

Cancel culture is the death of comedy.

He couldn't make fun of anything. Thought his friends were the only safe harbor, oh well.

still dont think LOTR is american, why are the hobbits talking in Irish accents then

also, I have been to Hobbiton and Im telling you its not in America, nor funded by Americans. lol

Besides, they dont even need the gold statuettes when they spent most of the film chasing after a ring.

I was reading a bio of Vivien Leigh and everyone was shocked that an English actress took on the role of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind. The Southerners were miffed and said well better a English actress than a Yankee.

Also, apparently Scarlett slapped Prissy a few times in that movie. In the end she did a stunt slap cos she was hurting her too much.

Actually...the hobbits spoke Westron with an "English Midlands" accent, as the Shire was based on Tolkien's boyhood home.
https://lotr.fandom.com/wiki/Hobbit...haracters' accents were portrayed as follows:

Though the guys who played Pippin and Bilbo are Scottish, the guy who played Merry was raised in Germany by British parents and Samwise and Frodo are American. So a mish-mash of countries coming together to create a movie that American's wanted with a NZ director. It is an "international venture between NZ and America"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lord_of_the_Rings_(film_series)

So, following the facts, I would compromise to say it's an American/NZ movie set in NZ, which (as I said before) is a beautiful land.

thanks Genipher, sometimes good things CAN come out of NZ-US partnerships

we (nz) just want to be acknowledged, even if we are the little guy.

The american Hollywood movies studios handle much of the distribution of movies, without their financial backing a lot of movies wouldnt be able to reach their audience. I guess thats why the Oscars are important.

I dont know if the British equivalent, the BAFTAS ever involve slapping and fistfights, though its not unheard of for Brits to swear a blue streak.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar, former Bucks and LA Lakers 20 season player, said Smith's actions 'perpetuated stereotypes' against black people. Top marks to Chris Rock for damage control.
With comedians anyone can be the brunt of a joke that's a given. 'Pride cometh before a fall', Denzel had it right.

I used to love Will Smith, but I kinda got disgusted with him when I found out he was in an "open marriage" (see: not marriage. A joke. A mockery of marriage).

I think the slap was fake... but if it wasn't fake, it's really just a testimony to how pathetic Will has become. Will has been in comedy for decades, and for him to take offense at a joke at an event like this and fly off the handle is despicable. And then to say "love makes you do crazy things"... nope, sorry. It was pitiful beta-male, white knight bravado... not love.
