The Grim Reaper is often portrayed as an animated skeleton wearing a black cloak and hood. He carries a scythe that he uses to reap souls that are dying or elected to die.

Biblically the reaper is considered the destroyer, which is an angel who brings death. An angel in almost every appearance was depicted as something that just seeing would cause extreme fear. The angel would often have to reassure the individual that they are safe or even help them stand or speak as many individuals immediately couldn't stand due to fear. The 10th plague is one example of this angel called the destroyer in action. (There are handful of angels listed in scripture with names and how the serve God. Not all are the same either.)

Matthew 13:30
Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’”

Currently, the believers live among unbelievers until the day of the Lord. Jesus used an agricultural metaphor to connect a real-life truth to a supernatural truth. The day of the Lord is considered in scripture as either visitation or judgment. One day it will be too late, and the reapers will be sent forth.

1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

John 1:29
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

To escape this wrath, we must be supernaturally covered by the blood of the Lamb. The Lamb of God is Jesus Christ, whose blood was shed for humanity's sin. This was prophetically depicted in Exodus chapter 12.

Exodus 12:6-7
6 Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. 7 Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs.

The lamb's blood was brushed over the top and sides of the door to show the household's faith. That faith saved them from the angel of death.

Revelation 14:15
And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.”

In the future, the harvest will be ready as evil will have become so ripe for destruction like the flood of Noah; it will be the season for judgment. The day of the Lord can be both a literal day or period of time (in scripture there are multiple times when the day of the Lord was for different events).

When that time comes, there is nothing anyone can do to stop the coming wrath on all that is evil. We often do not talk about this side of God as we love to focus on His love for us but God is also all just and hates evil.

Interesting read.

But which angel has the power of death?
“Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; and deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭2:14-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭12:7-9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The angel called the destroyer. It has no name given. There were two angels in Sodom and Gomorrah.
I wonder if this would be the same Angel that eliminated the Assyrian army during the siege of Jerusalem

Either the devil has the sole power of death or the power of death is delegated to different angels. It's worth considering that the "destroyer" or "angel of death" when they aren't explicitly named, are actually the devil himself. Afterall, see what God allowed the devil to do to Job. Just worth considering imho.

yes that’s what I believe he was a high angel beforehand , who caused a rebellion among the angels and was eventually cast out of heaven because he tried to destroy Gods plan of salvstion through the messiah.

there’s a Lot the ot that makes mention of this that he is possibly the angel that was meant tonkeep
Man away from the tree of good and evil and instead tempted them to kill them.

“And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭12:4-5, 7-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

so if you look at the gospel satan was trying to stop Jesus from accomplishing salvation even from birth when Herod tries to kill him , then Satan tries to tempt Jesus to destroy his work, then he constantly accused Jesus through the teachers of law and Pharisees eventually accusing him of blasphemy, and enters into Judas and betrays him , then through human suffering tries to destroy his Will to save us but after Jesus was victorious in all this he was taken up to the throne in heaven

which caused the war in heaven and satans casting out of heaven for good but left him in earth earring against the church on earth

that’s at least my own belief not saying it’s right but , worth considering because Jesus is the son of man “ man child “ promised to israel through the prophets who would be the savior of the world.

and Satan was definately trying to destroy him when he was on earth working salvation for mankind. I think it’s why all the sudden I’m the gospel you start seeing all these demon possessions and see the devil working temptations and entering into Judas all
In opposition to Jesus and his mission

I think it’s worth considering

God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death,
because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on Him. Acts 2:24

For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, He cannot
die again; death no longer has mastery over Him. Romans 6:9

Revelation 1:18

No these angels are under God's command as scripture says. They do not kill for evil but instead they kill evil itself.

Thank you Jesus we do not have to fear the reaper not like the song however, we should fear that reaper lol.

Instead we have a fear of the Lord that keeps us properly grounded in humility.

Lol this song came out before I was born so growing up I thought he was singing about death until I got older and realized like many classic rock songs they are using slang words for drugs. Boy did it change my perspective lol.

At the time of its composition, Blue Oyster Cult had been treading the fine line between
hard rock and prog rock for close to a decade, achieving a cult (no pun intended) following
and rising album sales, even as the possibility of a hit single seemed like a long shot.
That’s when Buck Dharma, the band’s founder and one of its chief songwriters, endured
what turned out to be one of the most fortuitous health scares in rock history.

“I wrote it because I was feeling mortal,” Dharma (born Donald Roeser) tells American
Songwriter. “I had just been diagnosed with a heart arrhythmia. It turned out to be not
life-threatening at all, but it certainly got me thinking about it. I just thought about, is
there life after death? Could lovers somehow reunite across the realm of living and dying?
Is there something else out there, and can you come back?”

The two most memorable "angel of death" stories for me are when David gets in trouble for numbering Israel and gets to choose whether he wants his army decimated by angel, or by gentiles, and he picks Angel. The way the story reads "the angel stretched out his hand to destroy Jerusalem", made me stop and think- "destroy jerusalem"? Like... all of it? At once? Was he just really into his job, and about to take his execution spree to far? Or was he just told to go down and kill people until further notice?

The second one, I've talked about before is Herod's executioner. "Eaten by worms and died". Now THATS a grim fate!

Yeah there are some terrifying stories in the Bible about the angels of death who with only a command instantly brings death.
