I can identify and have been labeled so many of those things....except princess...but I have been labeled as a primadonna....
Hey John, I think @seoulsearch might've just given you a new nickname.
Maybe it'll catch on and that'll be what they call you at your bakery.

It’s a little out of line using the red X on this post…BUT…I disagree…A LOT.😂😂😂

I should've read on a little further before commenting and giving him the big red x.

Actually, on several occasions, you've called me The Worst thing anyone could call a nerd.

You called me - A Normal Person. 😳

I am many things.

But Normal is not one of them.

One only has to read my posts as proof. 🤪🤓😬

Back in the day, THIS is what the CC Singles Forum used to be -- great discussions mixed with all kinds of inside jokes from long-running and/or other threads, good-natured teasing along with well-wishes, concerns, honest questions, and prayers. Knowing people well enough to remember enough about them that you could make posts directed at them or about them as a good friend.
Now see, that's kinda how I've felt about this place the past 3 years or so since I've been here. Singles forum or not, there's a special group of ya'll that I feel that way about.......
and it brightens my days.

Oh my partner calls me all kinds of names...whining mule, militant clean freak...all kinds of things.

I'm trying to be good and kind...but sometimes both hands won't hold.

I'm in the middle of coffee roasting training...trying to figure out exactly which coffee will be the best after roasting it a particular way.

And I have my ideas as to how to go about things. (Imagine screaming chef in some European languages you don't understand)

Because how you roast a coffee bean affects how it tastes.

*sigh*

My thought is to grab some coffee before we leave and bring a bunch back to Nashville and have a tasting.

My nose and tongue were in pallet shock by coffee number 4...and we did 12 today.

Hey Everyone,

It's finally come to this: the whole world is scrambling to identify as this, that, or the other, and the madness and mayhem has FINALLY reached its way here to the CC Singles Forum!

Yup, it's THAT time to boldly declare what YOU personally identify as!!!

And the choices will include... Well, go ahead and have a look at the poll, pick the ones you most closely identify, and then tell us why you chose them.

This thread idea started off as a joke. Lynx has always called himself "Your Friendly Neighborhood Nerd," and he really means it. His specialty is helping people find tech that really suits what they need and are looking for, and helping them find the most efficient way to run it, and I've watched him act as voluntary tech support for multiple people over the years.

He and I have always had this friendly bantering back and forth in which I INSIST that I am a nerd, but he tells me that I am more of a geek (to which I still vehemently protest.)

It's not because labels matter that much to me, but it's because how kids at school labeled me. I now see owning this label I was given as a way of flipping my own experience with bullying on its head, and hopefully for a good cause. Other kids may have called me a nerd in a not-so-nice way, but as an adult, I embrace that label with pride and am happy to encourage and uplift others who have gone through the same thing. I stick with identifying as a Nerd because that's what others called me, and these days I wear that badge proudly, clear and front.

Unfortunately, unlike Lynx, I'm not a "useful" nerd. I'm completely technologically inept, so the most I can do is be that random annoying person who shows up and starts talking randomly about any and every random annoying subject I've been reading or thinking about. Yes, you're welcome. :geek: I never saw myself as a Geek because it wasn't a term that was used at my school.

But enough about ME -- I would like to know about YOU. And this is not in any way, shape, or form, trying to belittle the pain anyone has gone through by being given these labels. Rather, it's a way, if it's possible, and if the people who'd like to participate are ready, to face those labels head on and see what good we can bring about from them, such as helping others with our stories.

Here's what I'm hoping people will do:

* Please choose what labels you identify with in the poll -- the poll-making feature only offers a certain amount of answers so feel free to add any that aren't included in the list. Tell us what you identify as in the post. You can choose as many answers as you like, but just for fun, I've decided to make this poll public (so you can see who identifies as what.)

* After making your choices (or just being nosy and seeing what other people chose, lol,) come back to the thread and tell us your own definition of the label(s) you've chosen. For instance, what makes a nerd a nerd, and what makes a geek a geek?

* Did you agree with the label you were given? Why or why not? If you were one of the popular people, was it all they say it's cracked up to be? What did you like or not like about how people saw you?

* What do you see yourself as now, being a child of God?

* I realize this thread won't be all fun and games for a lot of people. If you feel comfortable, tell us about your struggles and experiences -- you're definitely not alone -- and we can lift each other up and pray for each other.

Believe me, back in school, I didn't really fit in, and being a nerd was definitely NOT a positive thing -- even in a "Christian" atmosphere -- but as I've grown older, I've learned to take those negative things and most definitely try to turn them into something positive.

How about you?

What's YOUR story?
I think nerd or geek is interchangeable now days for the most part. Outside of someone trying to be mean about I’ll use either term. Such as I like to nerd out or geek out on this or that. There are a few things I really like to geek out about. One is science. I like most science but I especially like earth sciences such as geology, biology and natural history in general. Within biology what I enjoy the most is convergent evolution, coevolution, and evolutionary ecology. When it comes to nonfiction the majority of it is within botany and focused on one of those three sub subjects with a emphasis on habitat systems. I hike for about 15-20 hours a week almost every week and sometimes I may hit up being outside for recreational activities in the wilderness for 40+ hours a week. Sometimes I’m simply hiking and birdwatching, or kayaking and looking for turtles or aquatic plants. Sometimes I spend 2-3 hours at one giant magnolia or live oak and will climb up it, examine hundreds of leaves looking for caterpillars or folded leaves for spiders and looking for fungi and ect… I went looking for the adder’s tongue ferns native to my area and was on my hands and knees crawling for 6 hours. Felt like I spent two days in the gym. Never found one. A lot of weekend get aways is me traveling to some random trail to hike, or going to look for some specific subspecies of snake or to look at champion trees. I have over 40k pictures of nature for over the last 8 years. I’ve been focused on tracking down roughly 56 native snake species to my area to handle and get pics of. I am often hiking looking for snakes with various reptile diseases. In my new house I’m getting ready to build I’m having one whole 14x14 room built just as a reptile room and another that’s 10x10 for spiders and scorpions and will probably have the leaf miners in there as well. The reptile room is for rehabilitation and treatment of injured and diseased snakes. Definitely looking forward to have multiple ponds also. Small ones around 12x12 such as a vernal amphibian pond to a 12x12x2 water pond for amphibians to 1-2 18x18x4 foot ponds for fish and turtles. One will be partially raised to prevent turtles from getting in and one will be at ground level slopping out so they can easily enter and leave.

I’m also a big nerd for horror. I love horror so much. I even have a subscription to shudder the horror streaming app. Doing landscapes and ponds I’m often commuting 1-3 hours a day. 50% of the time I’m listening to horror podcasts. Currently I’m listening to “ Less
Is Morgue” which is a horror comedy podcast centered around two roommates, a ghoul and a ghost. Waxes and wanes between very dark to bizarro to comedy. The other one I am listening to is “ Witch’s Tale “ which is a radio drama series from the 1930s recently remastered and released into various podcast series. There are two Christian horror podcasts I listen to. “ Creepy Cove Community Church” and “ 10xTheTerror “. The first is set to like audio church services with horror elements added in and the second one is sort of like horror film history and criticism. I really enjoy horror film history and criticism. My favorite podcast on that is probably “‘Faculty of Horror “ lead by two women. It’s fantastic. They are experts and you can even track down the thesis and books they wrote. For just random fictional horror podcasts I really like pseudopod , campfire radio and the wicked library. Though recently been listening to realm, nightlight and nocturnal transmissions. Also creepypod.

I also am mostly watching horror. Though I only am able to watch 1-2 movies a week and 2-3 episodes. I am currently going through the free horror films of Tubi from the 1950s which is the b class golden era. Just terrific stuff. I could go on and on but will end it here. If you’re a legitimate horror fan though definitely hit me up. I watch everything from silent, black and white, B class, found cottage, student projects, to slashers, gorefest and trippy or intel. Really any of it that I enjoy.

I' finally admitting it...I'm identifying as a Leafs fan...again! It could be some kind of mental illness! I'm sure I'd be cured if they won the cup! Believing they will may be a psychotic delusion. One may be nuts to think that will ever happen! Lol

Geek: Somebody who is REALLY into something, and will totally geek out if you happen to mention that particular topic. Geeks can pass as normal people unless someone happens to mention that specific topic.

Nerd: Major computer/science geek who is socially inept and will never have half a chance of passing as a normal person.

It's all relative. Compared to me you're so normal you could be in a State Farm commercial.

It's like when Batman met his older self (long story, involving time travel) and wound up interrogating a criminal and playing good cop to his older self's bad cop.

"Wow! Batman playing good cop..."
"Everything's relative."

Now see...
I have always heard it as a geek is someone who freaks out about something and is physically weak...

A nerd, knurd, nearde, and etc is someone with above average intelligence who thinks too much and has their head in the clouds of their own thoughts. They may appear to be socially inept but actually are just bored of the current group conversation and slipped off mentally to rejoin the thoughts in their head.

Physically a gnurd can be anyone....

Well... I mean yeah, you're not wrong really... But we don't like to phrase it that way because people get all offended.

It's easier to just pass it off as being socially inept. Also you don't HAVE to tell everything you know John.

As a former member of the US armed forces I would say that deep down I am a warrior. Mission first, last, always.
Which branch? I’m assuming army and that you are quoting a bit of the soldiers creed but I don’t know what any other creed from the other branches say. If so, mos? 35n was mine. Sigint.
