And to continue the ongoing saga of teaching electrical and HVAC engineers their own math...

We got up on the roof today and took down model and serial numbers....

And looked at the specifications.
I was being very generous with 44 KVA. It's only 27. How on earth the lugs even hold the 6 awg wire is something of a mystery at this point. A 225 Amp breaker is designed with lugs to hold the wire that is bigger than most 2,000 sq foot home's main service entrance cable.

So....and looking at the disconnect beside the units they were both fused the same...fuses too big so they wouldn't blow no matter what...IOW a huge fire hazard waiting to happen.

And they are basing our electrical needs based on the over sized existing breakers. And we have paid them $5,000 to do an accurate assessment.

We are as hot as my oven cranked on highest temp possible.
They need to watch out...my partner is out for blood at this point.

Someone installed that breaker in the MDP for the rooftop unit. I'm not sure why. I'm guessing because they didn't have the right sized breaker and wouldn't go buy the right one. The fused disconnect is also over sized at 60 amps per phase instead of using a LB 50 amp fuse on each phase. The same size fuses on the disconnect are used on the 5 ton package unit on two phases. Again it's looking like someone threw in what they had instead of what they should.

BUT
The engineers went by the breaker sizes for preliminary load calculations for our project estimate costs and for putting it out for bid. The engineers are claiming that we need a 600 Amp three phase service (208 volt) so that it needs to be completely redone which costs roughly $60,000.

So....we are furious. We paid these guys $5,000 for an accurate preliminary and they are screwing up massively.

HVAC guys are the worst! They'll tell you to replace an entire unit when all you need is a new capacitor or control panel transformer. They also tend to be "Brand Loyal", which means they make their money by selling new units instead of repairing old ones....

These guys are just engineers....they don't contract for anything else but designing what our needs are. MEP design is what they get paid to do. And they have screwed up massively. (MEP stands for Mechanical Electrical Plumbing)

And to top off my lousy mood my 35% sugar dough failed. Insufficient dough strength and it went flatter than a pancake. No oven spring whatsoever. In fact it went flatter.

So I got another batch at 20% working now. It's got to rest for the rest of the evening and around midnight I will begin proofing it and then baking it for breakfast tomorrow.

Lol... I don't know about you, but I've NEVER seen a set of prints that were 100% accurate... What ever happened to architects actually BEING engineers?

Architect know structural codes...that's their job. They usually contract out MEP engineering to someone else and then draw the pictures. They also contract out interior design. (People who make it pretty)

That covers everything....
And on a main issue before interior design they have deliberately screwed up.

That is why they are separate faculties in university, with their own libraries (I worked in engineering). It doesnt seem like they will merge any time soon.

I also dont understand how an architect can design a roof with no eaves, so that the rain sits collecting on the roof and eventually the house collapses thanks to the rain falling down the walls and saturating the interior

The land required to grow food for a person is a LOT more than the land required for a person to live. Same with every species. You don't just need a place for a horse to stay, you also need a field to grow his hay.

All those cities with all those people in tight areas can't exist in a vacuum. Cut off supply lines to all the LARGE areas that grow food for them and they'd die in very short order.

It seems like few people have witnessed the quietly all-powerful and subtlety dominating power of God when He is pulling strings to manipulate reality before our eyes. Oh I agree. Money is worldly power. It is good to have it if your conscience is right with God, or even if you're unsaved and don't worship it. Unfortunately, my father was one who worshipped at the golden idol. Every penny was made a big deal out of. I think he treasured it because he thought it was directly proportional to his worth as a man and as a human. Thank GOD I do not have that in my system. (Although, back in 2019, he said the sinner's prayer with me, so I'm hoping he's been redeemed since. Hard to tell since he's now in a care facility and has trouble communicating.)

I can certainly relate to that... With the money comes a peculiar pride and "image consciousness". I still don't measure up to my parents expectations and they're pushing 80.
They're also Christian... They consider themselves very blessed.
