HALT, acrynom for Hungry, Angry, Lonely, and Tired, are four risk factors, usually known as the triggers for relapse during recovery from addiction:
Hungry is referring to physical hunger and/or thirst - or craving for certain treat even when you're not really hungry; Israelites were guilty of this one as they were discontent with the manna and craving for pot of meat;
Angry could be a temper tantrum, a general bad mood, or any kind of negative emotion that clouds your judgement;
Lonely, either being isolated all by yourself or surrounded by strangers with nobody to talk to;
Tired, being stressed out at the lowest level of energy after a long day, brain's foggy, eyelids are heavy, limbs are like jelly;
On top of HALT, I'd add two more - Embarrassed, when being caught by surprise, being seriously challenged or shamed, or in a compromised situation; and Drepressed, the feeling of frustration and hopelessness after a setback or a traumatic experience.
Spiritually, a HALTED state is a dangerous, vulnerable state that leads to temptation, different people could be more susceptible to one factor more than others. In a HALTED state, Satan's voice is as loud as thunder, one or more of my old issues, obessessions, desctuctive behaviors which I thought I have buried long ago are suddenly roaring back to life. A decision made in a HALTED state could be a deadly mistake which I would never make with a clear mind and I would certainly regret afterwards. Satan doesn't bother me when I'm all pumped up and full of spirit, I could recite the same bible verses that Jesus recited when He was being tempted; but when I'm HALTED, I couldn't even think straight, so any advise on how to fight the spiritual battle like Jesus did at the end of His trial when He was HALTED?
