A new name for this website?

The largest assembly of its kind in one place?

A group that does not realize that they have a problem?

I have never in my life seen so many people in one place who seemed absolutely "bent" on interpreting the scriptures to say anything but what they actually say.

It is sad. :(

It truly is. :cry:

SMH :rolleyes:
.....and the folks here are no different than the vast majority of peoples across the world. Nor different from all the Church Groups/Denominations across the world............pretty much mirror images of the ideologies published here.

I use about 14 translations to help me understand what the Word of God has to say. I've been accused of using them as a way to get the Bible to say whatever I want it to say. It seems more wise (to me) to use different translations for clarification than to turn to commentaries, which I do less than five times per year, I'd say.

One example is that I use the NLT to show that the Purpose of Christ is to Redeem us from the Curse of the Lord. However, all other translations do not say this, but state that the Law of Moses is the Curse. From the context of the entire Bible (and other supporting passages), the Law is not a Curse, but it is beautiful, good and Holy.

So while I admit that I pick and choose certain Bible passages from certain translations, I only do so because it is reasonable, logical, and rational, fitting in with the theme and purpose of the Bible.

Galatians 3:13 NLT - "But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree."

Romans 7:12 KJV - "Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good."

"Love thy neighbor as thyself" is not a Curse.

As I said on another thread just last night:

In my estimation, the real underlying problem is that most people have no fear of God whatsoever, and all sorts of other problems stem from that root problem.
well when the message becomes “ your all saved no matter what you do “

There’s not much fear of God to be found when we acknowledge the truth it comes

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:10-11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

paul Knew and taught the fear of God the reality that we have to actually answer for our deeds but when the term grace is defined as “ nothing else can possibly apply to understanding all the real stuff like the fear of the lord , gods by the wayside interpreted away to oblivion

because we’ll grace is the great eraser of everything our lord and savior taught about salvation and eternal life

You are so correct!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many on this message board have distorted the meaning of the 'Word of God' in Scripture to fit what they want it to mean, taking scripture out of context. By doing so, they have changed the Word of God in Scripture to their own word, pretty worthless. They really don't care about God's truth at all. Sad but true.

And, everyone on this board knows that you can cherry pick scripture out of context to get it to mean anything you want it to. But they do it anyway.

yeah that’s where it all comes from people are taught this stuff and spread it like eve in Eden

but it’s biblical and we were warned

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭4:3-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the arguing and disagreement comes because of false doctrines spread into christian minds. And further permeate the church when they then spread the same and add to it.

it’s why when anyone says we have to believe and obey Jesus so many get in a huff and start explaining about grace that erases everything else.

grace doesn’t erase Gods word it changes us by Gods word from sinners to saints

Many take the term grace and erase all
Of the impactful change it has

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”
‭‭Titus‬ ‭2:11-12, 14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

we try to make grace erase the teaching part about repenting and living upright lives in this world before god and then we say “grace erases it all “ basically people do this to grace

“For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.”
‭‭Jude‬ ‭1:4

when grace becomes the reason we don’t have to repent and live right by Gods word it’s a lie but it’s so pervasive in the church mind

The true grace of God definitely includes the fear of God:

Hebrews chapter 12

[28] Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
[29] For our God is a consuming fire.

If any one is looking for highlighted verses who is the cherry picker .

Time ran out the highlighted verses in John 6 37 through 54
Most people don't read a wall of text... The layout alone is enough to shut out any thinking person.

Try linking to the whole or just mentioning the whole (we all do have Bibles) and then outlining your points in a concise manner...

People would read that, and respond in relation to whatever point your attempting to make.

I'm pretty sure there's someone on this forum who thinks you're doing exactly what you're accusing others of doing.

Why not just argue your points and leave the rest to God? A convincing argument will win over those reading. Whining never won anyone...

I totally agree .. The point was about one of the reasons some folk claim so and so is cherry picking. Often the poster will post a verse guessing one verse will be read . IF the opposing side , so to speak, disagrees with the ideal they often claim cherry picking. Totally agree with your post :)

I agree with what you said.

Spending a period of time on a Christian website and especially on a Bible discussion forum, is a real eye opener.

So many different interpretations of the scripture.

So many denominations in Christianity and, at times, extremely different Church organizations.

Given the New Testament is composed of say 26 letters. Half of these letters are small letters, give or take a few pages. The content of these letters is a simple text, addressed to mostly uneducated audiences. These are first century letters.

How is it even possible to end up with conflicting interpretations?

I have a view of John chapters 5 and 6 that may be contrary to many who post here . I dont want to be accused of Cherry picking so tell me how many of us posters will read this in its entirety?
I read every word - expecting to read at-the-end-or-somewhere an explanation of your 'view' mentioned above.

I am pretty sure that I "get" your point in the second sentence; however, it seems that all you really wanted was for people to read the passage you posted.

The Healing at the Pool on the Sabbath
<unhighlighted scripture verses>
Jesus Is Equal with God
<unhighlighted scripture verses>
The Authority of the Son
<unhighlighted scripture verses>
Joh 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
Joh 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

Witnesses to Jesus
<unhighlighted scripture verses>
I Am the Bread of Life
<unhighlighted scripture verses>
Okay - a passage of scripture with two verses underlined - and, with added notations for emphasis of certain parts of it.

If any one is looking for highlighted verses who is the cherry picker .
At this point, your point is made; however, it is totally out-of-sync with the context of the intent of the OP.

I am not so sure that you are properly understanding what it means to "cherry pick" the scriptures - in the context of the intent of the OP.

If necessary, I will explain it in a later post.

Time ran out the highlighted verses in John 6 37 through 54
You did actually highlight some verses - just not these.

This runs directly against the point you were trying to make in the first sentence of post #13.

If you had had all of the verses highlighted before submitting the post, this would probably resulted in something better understood by others.

I am guessing that you submitted post #13 before deciding to change the presentation of the previous posts - and, tried to do so within the edit time remaining - and upon failure to do so as you wanted - added the last part to post #13.

Am I correct?

Because, if I am not - then, your posts don't make any real sense at all...

I know what cherry picking is...
I am not so sure... :unsure:

Had you read the post you wouldn't be asking, which was/is the point of the posting.
I believe you failed to make your intent clear-enough. While I understood the point you wanted to make, I think the way you stated it added unnecessary confusion...

Yes yes you are totally correct . Having been posting for about 30 years i have seen 'cherry picking from all sides, sure i dont know what cherry picking is from the off topic ones to the 1 verse out of a passage .. I have used a real cherry picker! a couple of'em from the tripod latter to get to the upper portion of the bing cherry tree in the back yard... to the one we used to pull the engine from the 57 vette . You do a fine job of cherry picking keep on picking :)

Very telling, isn't it...?

If we cannot agree on the definitions of things (e.g. - 'rapture'), how can we possibly have a productive conversation about whatever-topic?

In general - I do just exactly that.

The correct word to describe the OP is 'lamentation'.

A lot of people come here to start a quarrel over words and introduce heresies....sharpening and honing their arguments in order to gain followers.
Anyone who is here to gain followers - instead of encouraging/leading others to follow God/Christ - they have "gone wrong" already...
