On the contrary there is no doubt in my mind whatsoever that this particular well at this particular location existed for the express purpose of the election/redemption of the woman of Sychar, and that of her fellow Samaritan townsfolk. And to preemptively plant the seeds of the gospel for the furtherance of ministry of Philip.???
I expect those who dug it were doing so to have a supply of fresh water. The fact that God/Jesus used its existence to give us a very valuable lesson is just the way He works...... As with all of His creations, He uses them as He will, and that includes uss'ens........
You are getting warm.....By that logic, He created the Red Sea just so Moses could part it. He created the Middle East just so the Jews would have a place to wander around in. He created rocks just so He could bring water from them, and unbelievers would have something to kill Stephen with. He created trees just so the Jews would have wood to make a cross to crucify Jesus on. He created the Jordan river just so there would be a place for John the Baptist to baptize people, including Jesus. He created fish just so the Disciples would have something to provide them employment, and something He could use to perform 2 great miracles.
............and on, and on, and on...........
Everything God created He can certainly use for what purposes He determins to use them for........ I just do not see your logic in this instance, sorry.
Clearly Jesus went through Samaria at that specific time, intersecting with that specific place......for the explicit purpose of redeeming Samaritans. In fact the haste and exertion to arrive there expeditiously had Jesus fatigued and weary..
• John 4:4-7 . . Now he had to go through Samaria. So he came to a town in
Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son
Joseph. Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the
journey, sat down by the well. It was about the sixth hour. When a
Samaritan woman came to draw water . . .
Jesus' interview with that woman wasn't a chance encounter.
He was on a very short leash. The Word didn't come into the world as an
independent agent, instead; he came as a servant whose itinerary, minute
by-minute, was micromanaged by a higher power.
• Phil 2:7-8 . . He made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the
form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in
fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient
• John 4:34 . . My food, said Jesus, is to do the will of him who sent me
• John 6:38 . . I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do
the will of Him who sent me.
• John 8:28 . . I do nothing on my own initiative,
• John 8:29 . . I do always those things that please Him.
• John 10:30 . . I and my Father are unified.
• John 14:31 . . That the world may know that I love the Father, and as the
Father gave me commandment, even so I do.
NOTE: Jesus' minute-by-minute itinerary was first exhibited at a wedding in
the 2nd chapter of John's gospel.

Anyway..............if y'all truly believe what you are stating (and I guess you do), then you must also believe that God "chose me" to offer a differing opinion on the whole discussion.

Calvin head nothing whatsoever to do with what happened at Jacobs well. Trust me on that one.Trust me, I would love nothing more than to agree with you about the whole reason for the digging of the well, because of what occurred there.
What occurred there shoots a HUGE HOLE in this whole teaching that women can not have authority over men.......so, yeah, I would love to agree with you.
However, as you are proposing things, it sounds just a wee bit too close to Calvins teachings, and I can not go along with Mr. Calvin.
As for Jesus being on a "short leash," that comes close to balsphamy. Why? Because Jesus IS GOD! There is no "leash" that can be placed on God. What Jesus did or did not do, He chose to or not do.

The context indicates the Jesus had an appointment from the Father.......and He kept it. This of course has nothing whatsoever to do with so-called Calvinism. No no. The people were actually created for the well.
This boggles my mind. That's like saying God sent the snake that ate the baby birds in their nest on our back deck. He also sent me to...uh...deal with the snake.
Calvinism at its finest once again.
I think the entire denom needs more reforming.

I choose to post the above. Unless you are a Calvinist, then, I was forced, obligated and bothered until I did it.
Just joking around, but I can accept that God knows all that will happen because He is not constrained by our linear ideas of time.
But this hard core "God knows how much dust is under my bed' type of thing; He probably does, but did He plan it? naaaaah

I am not a Calvinist by the way. Nor am I an Armenian. Just plain old fashioned believer.
and He kept it.
This is just so very very sad. I don't know that Jesus.
.
It's curious to me the number of Bible students I encounter online unaware that Jesus
associated with his Father as a servant when he was here.
It's possible you never will know "that" Jesus because he and his Father are particular
about the folks allowed into their inner circle.
• Matt 11:27 . . No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father
except the Son; and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
