It's a game we play regularly...

If you can go into Walmart and get out with spending less than $100 you win.

There's been times I lost...but mostly because I knew ahead I was going to be spending a lot of money with bigger ticket items.

It comes in slow and goes out quick.
What do you win if you can do it?

oh no I didnt see that
I dont quite understand the mystique surrounding the president and his brother, or the mob connections
I saw the one about Jackie and her sister

They really seem to be in their own little worlds even though that family was running the entire country for a few years, but then I suppose when you get to the top nothing is as it seems.

I think Marilyn really struggled with being stereotyped as an actress but she had become a victim of her own success it seems. The shelf life of an actress is very short in Hollywood
It's all about the money, honey. As organized criminals, the mob had their fingers in everybody's business, many of which they controlled in one way or another. Their level of influence reached into the high echelons because they needed to keep the law at a safe distance while they carried out their illegal schemes. They owned many businesses so they could launder money through them, and they laundered money so they could spend it and say it came from a legitimate source, so the IRS could not prove it came from illicit activities. The mob controlled some ports and harbors. Nothing came in or went out without their knowing. This allowed them to smuggle contraband. Everyone gets paid off because the profits from contraband are huge. Like drugs. The mob owned the truckers' union, the truckers who moved imports and exports, and goods needed by everyone for everyday living. The mob owned construction and development companies, and the politicians who granted building permits. They jacked up the price of everything so they could launder their money. Bobby wanted to put a stop to it. It got Bobby dead.

I don't think Marilyn struggled with being an actress. She was doing what she loved.

I would say what she struggled with was feeling loved.

Now there is the "me too" movement. No such thing existed back then.

Now men face ostracization and legal action against them for exploiting women sexually.

Back then it was just business as usual and the good old boys club.

@Lanolin speaking of the mob and organized crime in general, if you are interested in learning more about it before you cancel your Netfilix subscription, I would also recommend Bad Blood (<= link :)): A dramatization of the life and death of Montreal mob boss Vito Rizzuto. The first season is largely based on fact. The second? Not so much. There is also Ozark and in case you haven't seen it yet? Tied for top place as the highest ranking show of all time on internet movie database: Breaking Bad.

sorry my sentence didnt come out right Marilyn Monroe struggled being STEREOTYPED as an actress, not actually with acting. She got roped into playing one kind of role by the studios. When she went to New York, she tried out another life, but the lure of money and films led her back to Hollywood and it was like she couldnt escape from it, once she signed on again.

Her private life was another different kind of struggle, though it doesnt seem like she had any problems being loved. she had many lovers and admirers. It was drugs being her downfall really. Plus she didnt have the great start to life, not having a dad and a mentally ill mother, but that didnt stop her from feeling loved or loving others.

in the 60s Hollywood everyone was doing drugs, even the president, who had a doctor giving him injections all the time. So they were also part of the problem. People do suspect Bobby tried to shut Marilyn up. I dont really know

I don't do food for comfort with reason however. In the world in the service I developed a chemical dependency as just a way to deal with anything or any pressures. I landed in the rehab clinic 3 times. One of the things that they let us know is that folks with addiction problems when they give up one they will oft pick up another to replace the former. So they said the biggest two folks at least at that time would pick up was smoking or food.

So when I made my plan of what I would do going forward a plan of how to deal with things not only head on but also what would I do to deal with the need to replace my addiction. I made a plan of exercise which at that time was mainly running. I really found the runners high quite exhilarating when I would run the long distances.

So with age don't run as much but these days for any comfort I may need find turning my music way high and hitting the weights or hitting the heavy bag mixed with music that expresses my mood in lyrics. Helps me find words to define for myself the words to get my mind wrapped around how I am feeling.

So reckon the truth of the matter is have never quite left my need for chemical dependency. Just these days instead of using outside factors to get the chemicals I desire I use physical activity to get my brain to release them. So don't have a comfort food but do have comfort physical activities and music. So reckon mine is a routine that I do.

I guess depends on the time of year on comfort foods or even things I do to relax and just even have alone time. Homemade chicken and noodle that I make is the best most the time. But also find a great grilled hotdog dressed to the max to be comfort for me. As far as things to do I sometimes play puzzle games online or listen to ,music, but when warmer out I go fishing. Even if it is a drowned worm I catch it is just awesome to sit and reflect on God's blessings.

I have plenty of cushions in the library for readers to cuddle while they are reading

Though I notice that some children arent used to comfort and have no idea what a cushion is for or how to hug one, they'll throw it up and down like a ball. I have throw blankets too (no sure why they are called 'throws'!) and for the most part children know they are to snuggle in, not use them as whips

I then found out in my research into special needs and autism about sensory fidget toys. Some children are bouncy and they perhaps have not learned how to self regulate i.e slow down and relax. You dont need to feed them drugs to do this

so Im planning on getting a sand timer hourglass so children can watch the sands of time...they cant make it go faster.

in this modern world where everything is fast, zippy and timetabled and rush rush, its important to have these 'down times'.

My go to's:

Breakfast is usually a bowl of cereal.. especially Life... cause Mikey likes it. If not cereal then over easy eggs/hashbrowns/sausage scrambled up
Lunch is a turkey/roast beef sandwich with all the fixings
Dinner is pasta (prefer red sauce), garlic bread, salad, ice cream (mint choc chip) with fudge or chocolate syrup

Hey Everyone,

A recent bout with (for me at least) a systematic preventative but not-particularly-pleasant medical routine currently had me thinking about what I personally do when I'm not feeling well physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

First, I made a "nest" for myself consisting of a plethora of (usually 4) pillows and (at least 2) fluffy blankets. Next, I queued up and listened to a sermon from a church I used to attend in another area for a bit of a spiritual boost.

And finally, I had to throw in a little bit of Ultimate Carbie Comfort: saltine crackers and/or potato chips, which are my staple food when I'm not feeling up to par, a can of Sprite (with a straw, of course! You know it's serious when straws are involved,) and maybe later, some mac'n'cheese. Now I know it will probably make some people sick just reading this, but for some reason, junk/fast food is always my first choice when I'm sick (not exactly a healthy decision, I know.) But my normal diet consists of a lot of eggs and vegetables, and those just don't cut it when I'm so nauseous that I can only stand for a couple minutes at a time.

I blame the fact that as a teen, I had a longer-than-expected hospital stay during which I begged my parents to bring me McDonald's "food" because I thought I would starve on all the bland hospital offerings, and so ever since that time, it's been "normal" for me to crave french fries, Chicken McNuggets (specifically McNuggets -- no other brand tastes the same!) and at home, as an easier, cheaper, and fast alternative for something salty, Kraft (gots to be Kraft!) boxed mac'n'cheese.

I guess the good thing about having relatively cheap tastes in comfort food is that it allows me to save more money for the medical bills!

How about the rest of you?

* What are some typical symptoms you always get when you're not feeling well spiritually, mentally, or physically?

* What care routines have you developed to help you recover?

* What are some of your favorite items, foods, and things that you do (or don't do) that you always find soothing?

One of the challenges I find about single life is having to manage our own health care by ourselves, so I think it's interesting to find out how other singles navigate this as well.

Thank you all for sharing, and may God bless your health and well-being in all ways. :)
One comfort food is chocolate, it’s so hard to resist but even though I know it’s not good for me at all.

I’ve tried to portion it now. Not eating as much as I use to 🫣😁

Never been to Carls, I am an admirals fan lol. I know you never heard of it, its a family owned restaurant in Brantford Ontatio.
theres all these american fast food restaurants in nz now including carls jr.

mcdonalds
kfc
texas chicken
burger king
mexicali
subway
dunkin donuts
wendys
pizza hut

they are like chains and often come with drive through service. while tradtional takeways you can park right outside the store, these you just line up and drive through its kind of the lazy way if eating. But it can be comforting because you know exactly what food they going to serve before you get there. Its always the same things on the menu. And you dont have to even eat it at a table or anything or even use knives and forks or chopsticks. They just fix it right there you dont have to wait hours.

I mean, maybe ppl take it for granted but food prep actually takes time and many ppl dont have the time to shop for fresh ingredients and then prep and cook after a long days work. Unless thats what you love doing.

although i have worked in takeaways and I dont really mind the cooking when Im paid to do it! plus free meals.

I have no idea what a Mexecali or Texas Chicken restaurant is.
Never seen those places before. They might claim to be American but....

Chueys I know...it's Mexican food.
Chik filet I know....it was started in Georgia and not Texas.

Mrs Winner's and Church's Fried chicken might have started in Texas....but most of them are gone now.

Popeyes and Bojangles chicken stands are from Louisiana and serve Cajun fried chicken. (Slightly spicy)

Hattie B's chicken is spicy hot fried chicken and is just a local chain here in Nashville. It's popular around here and copied often. But I still don't think it's all that.

If chocolate is great, but try it with peanut butter or strawberries

We have most of those restaurants in Canada, I know it's the lazy way,I've worked in real restaurants and a fast food restaurant.

Your getting a better more nutritious meal when the cooks actually have to prepare the food by hand.

You save a truck load of money if you do it yourself lol
