I prayed for you. I too am struggling with depression. Something that has been helpful to me is writing a list of things that I think i am. Then I wrote down all the things God says I am. The differances are really startling. I was shocked at how much I was hating and hurting myself. I was constantly bashing myself. God commands us to love our neighbor as we love ourselfs.

In Galatians 5:13-15 Paul says, "13 For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. 14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another."

How can you love your neighbor as yourself when you bash yourself constantly? Then i thought well, what is Love? 1st Corinthians 13:4-7 says, "
4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." Are you patient with yourself? Are you kind to yourself? Take out Love in these verses and exchange them with your name. Example, "Alex is patient and kind. Alex is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Alex does not demand her own way. Alex is not irritable, and keeps no record of being wronged. Alex does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Alex never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every cicumstance."

I know that with all the bashing and self-hating I've been dishing myself for years that I can't honestly say that. But I can take this verse and repeat it to myself through out the day. A declaration and decision of what I am and what I will do. I still mess up, but I find that my relationships, my attitude, my inner thoughts, have all been brighter and happier because of it.

God has forgiven you. He loves you so much that he came and died for you. He was so desprete to be with you that he died the most horible death imaginable. God doesn't need us, he wants us. If God has forgiven us than we should in turn forgive ourselfs. I'm praying for you.

Also you might want to look into getting Joyce Meyer's book Battlefield of the Mind. Or watch her tv sierse Everyday living. or on Facebook! She has really helped me! Praying for you!

I love my "neighbors" (friends) more than I love myself. They are so much better than me.

I'm sorry, for that last post. I know you were only trying to help. It's just that I mess up all the time. I try to do good, but I always end up making things even worse. I can't just ignore it and say "I love me" everyday. To me, that would be like telling myself that I love that I am a sinner. I don't like being a sinner.

God knows that your a sinner and still loves you. You can be a Christian and still mess up. I know I do. No one but Jesus is perfect, Just like in 1 Corinthians you need to be patient with yourself. God is love and that verse is an absolute promise to us. he will never leave or forsake us. You should also go to a doctor to help. I know that might seem like a bad idea or like your saying your crazy. but I promise its not. depression is sometimes a chemical reaction or lack of. Some people only need to help stablize their body through taking daily vitamins and following a routine and getting at least 8 hours of sleep. But sometimes (including myself) people need help with it. A doctor can help. Also talk to your friends and family about how you feel. If you don't feel comforatable with that than talk to a counselor. I prayed that this doesn't offend you. I merely want to be helpful. Please do seek help from a friend, a family member, and/or professional help. May God bless you.
