Sociology is so important to study as history has much to teach us about what works and what doesn't for society.
One of these areas is within the topic of marriage. Marriage has been forever defined as between one man and one woman. Only within the last 30 years did that change within the United States.
For instance, the thoughts of the founding Fathers could be understood when defined by
Noah Webster's 1828, An American Dictionary of the English Language.
MAR'RIAGE, noun [Latin mas, maris.]
The act of uniting a man and woman for life; wedlock; the legal union of a man and woman for life. marriage is a contract both civil and religious, by which the parties engage to live together in mutual affection and fidelity, till death shall separate them. marriage was instituted by God himself for the purpose of preventing the promiscuous intercourse of the sexes, for promoting domestic felicity, and for securing the maintenance and education of children.
Marriage is honorable in all and the bed undefiled. Hebrews 13:4
1. A feast made on the occasion of a marriage
The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, who made a marriage for his son. Matthew 22:2.
2. In a scriptural sense, the union between Christ and his church by the covenant of grace. Revelation 19:7.
It was unconstitutional for the Supreme Court to go against centuries, if not 1000s of years of precedents, to act as a legislative body and to rule homosexual marriages to be legalized across all 50 states.
We do not redefine reality and the purpose of marriage. As soon as you do, you begin to create a marriage culture that no longer adheres to such boundaries that make for healthy societies. Anything outside of this definition above is not marriage; it is an abomination.
Now that the floodgates are open, we see people wanting to marry their dog, a plane, or even children. If you do not believe it, look it up and see for yourself. That is now the direction people are trying to legalize and radically groom our kids, starting in Kindergarten, YouTube, Disney, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, OnlyFans, and much more.
It is disgusting and detestable, it should be outlawed and charged as a danger to public health. Nothing is done in a vacuum with expectations that it will not affect others. If it affects your health, it affects others by taxes to pay for your poor decisions.
But we know how the heart is in relation to wickedness; it isn't content on self; it needs validation from others. So the sinner seeks to find people who cheer them on, and once that is no longer satisfying, they must force others to validate their dangerous beliefs.
We as the Church must take a tough stance on this because not only does God call it evil, it is one of the main factors in the collapse of civilizations.
The tough stance should be fought within the hearts and minds of the people. The Gospel is perfect for exposing sin, bringing healing, and teaching what is true. The truth is always evident in reality which is why people are less likely to respond to just the facts. They need something to penetrate the heart.
This first happens by hearing the Word of God. But hearing often comes after they have been loved into a setting of trust and acceptance of the individual as a child of God, not tolerance to the sin, for we all are sinners saved by grace.
We are called to no longer to live in sin but to engage and be moved away from sin through the help of the Holy Spirit. This is, in truth, how we love our neighbors, to tell them the truth in love, not only hoping to save the soul but to help them live most abundantly in God while on Earth.
