I agree.

ἔργον (ergon) Strong: G2041 GK: G2240

The entire chapter speaks to this.

28 They said therefore unto him, What must we do, that we may work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom [h]he hath sent.

Seems like Jesus is referring to having faith.
Amen

“having faith “

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭

and then growing in faith from doing that hearing his word leads towards repentance and obedience but in a gentle teaching kind of way rather than with a sledgehammer of death like Moses law

“And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭6:46‬ ‭

If ye love me, keep my commandments. …He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:15, 21, 23-24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

so we learn to walk by or “according to “this faith we have inside from hearing and believing the gospel it’s hard to hear Jesus word and not eventually come to repentance because he says a lot like that as well as the encouragement and comfort and assurance so warnings d teachings lessons for his people who believe

“(for we walk by faith, not by sight:)
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Commit thy way unto the LORD; Trust also in him; And he shall bring it to pass.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭37:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:25‬

to walk is an active role walk by faith , walk by the spirit , walk in love our actions should be faithful , we should love in deed and truth in action where it matters , and be led of the spirit And followers of him that loves us

faith is an active expression of belief it always leads to a choice and results in an action like repentance , baptism , brotherly love , and everywhere else the gospel leads us To go with our life

faith is like a seed it has life Inside It that produces fruit , the seed itself can’t produce fruit until it changes and the life in it comes outward . the fruit of the gospel where faith is found is our actions resulting from our belief of the word of Christ

if Jesus is warning a person that believes in him if he’s encouraging a believer in him if he’s teaching them about salvstion it’s going to sink in because tbier faith is in him we need to believe in Jesus so we will accept his word of truth

Scripture states otherwise.

"So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." Romans 10:17

If God saved everyone at the cross
God made the provision for salvation at the cross. This is not complicated. Please accept the simple truth that God has given everyone the opportunity to come to Him. Why do you stumble so badly on this?

2 Peter 3:9
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

John 3
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

I disagree because it does not "comport" with the Bible.
That's your opinion.
You can't actually prove that because your perspective arrived cobbling together verses you prefer in order to sustain your doctrine.

Whereas Jesus synopsized the old testament prophecies of his coming and his arrival and ministry in a few simple words that message one fact. We do not choose God. God chooses us.

The Elect of God has meaning.
Jesus teaching in parables for the reasons he stated has purpose.

The Book of Life illumines the meaning and purpose fulfilled before the foundation of the world.

Our lives are lived catching on to what God has planned. Our faith leads us to navigate through what's ahead.

We are all following in the steps God has laid forth for us.
God is absolutely sovereign.

The lot is cast into the lap;
But the whole disposing thereof is of Jehovah.

They asked what work they can do. Jesus told them they can believe in Him. There’s only one another to understand this passage and it’s that believing is a work. Let’s move past this now since neither of us will budge on the point in this life. Curious, though, are you a Calvinist?

i think you’re reading a Bible version you can’t understand. Let me show you a different version that words it clearer for you.

John 6:28,29 New Living Translation
28They replied, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?”
29Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”

Let me try to explain this for you. They asked what they can do to do God’s work, meaning the work that God has for them is to believe. Otherwise, it would mean God is working to believe in Jesus which is not accurate. I’m trying to reach you. Please listen.

They left the thread but they'll enter a new one with the same arguments.

Isn't there a denomination that teaches we are concomitant with God to save humanity?

It impugns God's sovereignty. Even insists sovereign is not defined as such because God needs us to help him save ourselves. ''Faith is a work.''

John 17, Jesus did not approve dividing his church. Which is what denominationalism does.
Faith is a work.

The words FROM YOU are not in the greek my friend.

You have the perverted biblical text which is not biblcial

That is also nonsensical.

This is the work of GOD we want FROM YOU????????

That would be YOUR WORK, Not GODS WORK.

Edit.. Take your new living translation and throw it in the trash. It is mistranslated in so many places I lost count.

Faith is a work. You’ve been deceived by someone or some group of people, possible your church or you’re misguided by poor Biblical interpretation, no humility, or true desire to accept what the Bible says.

Anyway, Jesus disagrees with you, Paul disagrees, James disagrees, every Bible commentary I looked at disagrees, and lastly but not leastly I disagree with you.

You’re on an island of heresy by yourself and the Word of God refutes you.

John 6:29
29Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

1 Thess. 1:3
3Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

2 Thess. 1:11
11To this end, we always pray for you, that our God will count you worthy of His calling, and that He will powerfully fulfill your every good desire and work of faith,

James 2:22
22You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected;

Faith is NOT A WORK

it is TRUST in SOMEONE ELSES WORK.

And faith also. PRODUCES WORK. But in itself is NOT WORK.

I do not know who you are. But you have some warped beliefs and i am seriously worried about you. Anyway.. I think it better if I just back away. I will pray for you

Faith is a work. That’s the mutual consensus in scripture. You can’t accept that because it clashes with your false doctrine.

I do not know who you are. But you have some warped beliefs and i am seriously worried about you. Anyway.. I think it better if I just back away. I will pray for you
I feel sympathy in my heart for you like you’re trying so hard, but you’re blind, and possibly have been indoctrinated by a cult. Truly sad.

You’ve attacked me several times, too, but I don’t take it personally.

I sense you’re screaming on the inside for help, but don’t know how to communicate that effectively. It comes out expressed as attacks when someone tries to help you. Who hurt you?

Anyway, I never shy away from those who need help so if you ever need anything just let me know. Thoughts and prayers for you. Peace.

We don’t necessarily need deliverance from problems and inconveniences on Earth because Jesus made it a foregone conclusion that tribulation will come. That’s my experience anyway. I’m sure some people have been sheltered, but not me; thus confirming John 16:33 to be true from my perspective.

John 16:33
33These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

That’s why I am inclined to believe the salvation is more likely to deal with eternal salvation of the soul, spirit, and body in the resurrection.

However, I absolutely agree with you in the sense that God can optionally save us from problems on Earth. I just don’t see where that’s a guarantee.
Faith of the three Hebrew children, I believe, was that they thought it was a win, win, situation. Either God would deliver them from the fire in the furnace, or God would go head and take their lives and their souls would go directly to heaven. The day of our death is better than the day we were born.

"It is the work of God that we believe."

What say you to John 6:29 "Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. "
NET Bible rightly translates v.29 as, "This is the deed (ἔργον) God requires—to believe (ἵνα πιστεύητε - that you should believe) in the one whom He sent.

I also find it interesting how John Calvin comments, as an aside only:
"They had spoken of works, Christ reminds them of one work, that is, faith; ... but that faith alone is sufficient because this alone does God require from us, that we believe."

I think that it is very important to see that Jesus used the singular "work" but the question posed was "what works."

Jesus uses their own words, which is typical of how He responded, taking their wrong vantage point to the correct one.

What was the instruction Jesus gave them, very simply, He specifically identifies what “the work of God” is—believing in Him.

It is "non meritorious" work which I have already stated and given an analogy.

As well, this "act of believing" is not the gift in Ephesians 2:8, "this" refers back to the verbal clause "salvation that comes by grace
through faith."

Saving faith being a gift bequeathed by God to only some while others have no opportunity to believe because they were not given the gift of believing, runs counter to the entire biblical narrative, amazes me how much traction it has gained.
