Being a Christian, after the name and legacy of the Gospel Jesus-God sealed with his blood on the cross, I know Jesus said I am, all my sister's and brothers here and around the world, are saved the moment I,we, believe.


Please consider rethinking your agenda dedicated to trying to lead us to believe that is not true.

You will fail. And not in just this life but once you've passed from it you shall answer for every single word uttered and written in undertaking that effort.
I have no agenda. I shared the words of Paul that express the truth. (Acts 19:1-7, Romans 8:9) It is your choice whether to accept what is actually recorded in the bible.

Also, if you don't believe what Paul said, consider the words of Jesus. Why did He say the following if a person receives the Holy Ghost the moment they believe? "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?"

Each the the following scripture references confirm the Holy Ghost is given at God's discretion:

Paul's question in Acts 19 addresses whether people are saved the moment they believe.
He said HAVE you received the Holy Ghost SINCE you believed? His question makes the point that a person can believe yet not be indwelt by the Spirit of God. And as Paul said in Romans 8:9, those who do not have the Spirit of God dwelling in them are not saved. (Romans 8:9)

Peter also presented requirements for those who believed in Jesus' death, burial and resurrection. The message referenced they could expect to receive the Holy Ghost. What? Why did Peter say the group would receive the Holy Ghost if that reality had already occurred?


"Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

Notice the above is when they believed who Jesus was.

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Peter's statement above indicated the group had not received the Holy Ghost yet.

39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

Clearly those who believe and obey the entire gospel message can expect to receive the Holy Ghost at some point. This truth is expressed in the Samaritan conversion record as well. They believed, got baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, and did not receive the Holy Ghost until days afterward. (Acts 8:12-18)

If you understood the God instituted purpose of water baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus you would have understood that the scripture you referenced (Colossians 2:16-23) had nothing to do with the NT command.
Collossians 2:16-23 has everything to do with outward acts that pertain to the flesh and religious observance.

We, who believe in the Righteousness of God thru Jesus Christ our LORD also believe and know the Truth as to the righteousness of water baptism.

Two unique 'righteousness' = the First one with a Capital Eternal 'R' and the second one with a temporary 'r'.

The First One is Eternal
the second one was a one time outward 'act' of righteousness that was completed the moment you were dunked.

The First One is the LORD of Heaven who hovered over the waters and then walked on them.
the second one, is one small step with the Walk of God

The First One washes away our sins by His Blood Sacrifice.
the second one only touched our flesh
as it is written:
"For Christ suffered for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.
He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit,
19in whom He also went and preached to the spirits in prison
20who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built.
In the ark a few people, only eight souls, were saved through water.
21And this water symbolizes the baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body,

Agreed. Scripture witnesses to the fact that God gives His Holy Spirit at His discretion. I pointed this out in post #1021

Conclusion: We have seen that baptism is immersion into water. We have also seen from scripture that baptism occurred after one confessed their sins and believed in Jesus with their whole heart. Baptism is not required for a person to be saved or to become a Christian. If it was essential for salvation, the thief on the cross could not have been saved. It is an act of obedience that demonstrates a desire to die to self and be like Christ (Romans 6:1-5). All we need to do is trust in Jesus with all of our heart. That is all!

The following is the context of what led up to Ananias telling Paul to be baptized to wash away his sins...

"And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,
13 Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.
14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth.

16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord." Acts 22:12-16
The infinitive " to be" and the infinitive " to get " need to be explained. " To be" is a state of being. Am, is, are, all come from the verb " to be". Examples are: be happy, I am hungry, he is sick, you are mean, etc. " get" is an action verb. Exambles are: get in the car, get involved, get baptized, etc. In Acts 22: 16 Ananias was telling Saul that he needs to become baptized in the name of Jesus Christ in order to wash away his sins simply by believing, which he did when he was able to see again and also, because their dreams were connected. Sadly, I'm thinking that not everyone is meant to understand scripture and that is why there is so much controversy. For all true Christians that are filled with the Holy Spirit and are on this site, you can identify the wolves in sheep's clothing. The wolves reading this are asking themselves: " Who is he talking about?", " What does he mean?", " Who are the wolves?".
Is a Christian combative? Does a Christian disagree with almost every scripture quoted by different posters? Is a Christian irrational and nonsensical? I thank all the posters on this thread because I've learned a lot doing research on various scriptures posted. Also, I realize that even though with some members they are unable to understand, posting scripture and your interpretations might get viewed in the future by others that will. Water baptism is not necessary for salvation. If it was, then John's baptism would have been all that was required of the people that came to him. There was no need for Jesus if water baptism saved.

I was saved (and healed) by Jesus about two weeks prior to being baptized in a local lake (as a statement of my burying the "old man").

Perhaps you are using the wrong bible edition.
I suggest KJV 1611 edition.

1.John's baptism was with water in which repentant received forgiveness. Jesus submitted himself to this baptism to accomplish all righteousness. His baptism blesses and gives His benefits to out baptism.
2.Those who heard Jesus' words to make disciples "baptizing them" in the name of our Triune God clearly understood that meant connecting Jesus Words with water. The other passages where people were baptized included water.
3.The Holy Spirit uses means to connect the blessings Jesus won to the won receiving them. In Baptism it is Water.
Acts 2: 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. The Holy Spirit continues to open the scriptures even the more so when they reject and/or argue against simple straight forward verses spoken by the Lord and the Apostles.

When that is true how to explain the serpent entering Eden, the tree God planted and made off limits, and the subsequent fall of the human race.
How does your observation consolidate that?

The scripture you quote is not relevant to what we are discussing. We can know God's mind regarding topics where two or more scriptures confirm a principle. The scripture you quote would be in reference to things such as questioning why God would choose to require obedience to water baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus for remission of sins in association with Jesus' sacrifice. So why do you question Him?

The same thing goes for the concept of OT symbols pointing to NT realities. God's word establishes that principle. And as such, NT water baptism is not a symbol but a reality that accomplishes what God says it does. To insist upon ignoring the principle because it does not line up with one's current understanding is not using wisdom.

As the scripture you referenced points out, Who are we to instruct God? That is not our job! Our job is to accept what is revealed in God's word. And in this case, God's purpose for water baptism in the name of the Lord Jesus and be obedient instead of trying to rationalize it away. It is only after doing so, that one's step of faith produces further revelation. God rewards those who diligently seek Him.

"But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established." Matt. 18:16

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." 2Tim. 3:16-17

Your comment in post 967 concerning Acts 22:16: "In Acts 22: 16 Paul was asking the mob to get baptized in the name of Jesus so that their sins would be washed away. Calling on the name of the Lord means declaring Jesus as Lord and Savior."

Even after being informed, in post 1008, of your error you go on to give an explanation contrary to what the account actually expresses. (post 1027)

I share the following in hopes to encourage you to study what the bible actually says about the topic of water baptism. After seeing that the word included consistent and numerous scriptures of the need to be water baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus I obeyed the command. It was after belief and obedience to the command that the Lord took me on a journey revealing the many foreshadows of NT water baptism.

Consider that God always required obedience in one form or another in different dispensations of time throughout the bible. And warned failure to comply would result in death. Why? Because He established a purpose behind each and every one. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Acts 10;47-48...
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
Acts 8:12-18: But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.

.."Paul explains the doctrinal significance of what occurs when one is baptized.His explanation is found in his letter to those who had already been obedient to the command.

Paul tells the Roman Christians what actually occurred when they were/are baptized; they were baptized into His death. Being buried with Jesus into His death resulted in their sin being destroyed.

Even though Paul explains this concept, the NEW AGE RELIGION TEACHING is......... that water baptism is nothing other than a mere public display.......... And that is so far removed from the truth.

Keep in mind that Satan knows if he can continue to perpetuate that lie ...... he can keep people from entering the kingdom of God. Thus He has proven scripture which says ...in the end times there will be ...great delusions.....they are here.

Conclusion....teaching that baptism is not necessary is violation of Rev. 22;19.... And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. 20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (Also two other books of the Bible).

Perhaps you are using the wrong bible edition.
I suggest KJV 1611 edition.

From these we learn:
1.John's baptism was with water in which repentant received forgiveness. Jesus submitted himself to this baptism to accomplish all righteousness. His baptism blesses and gives His benefits to out baptism.
2.Those who heard Jesus' words to make disciples "baptizing them" in the name of our Triune God clearly understood that meant connecting Jesus Words with water. The other passages where people were baptized included water.
3.The Holy Spirit uses means to connect the blessings Jesus won to the won receiving them. In Baptism it is Water.
Acts 2: 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.” 40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.”
41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.

Read the verses that you posted and try to understand what they actually say. Then we can discuss the issue further.

Here is something to start you thinking: all the people that John baptized in the Jordan were not saved. Why not?
