What do you do when you need or strongly desire something, that thing God has already promised in His Word, you've prayed about it, maybe God has promised to deliver that thing to you, but time has passed and you still haven't gotten that thing?
How do you handle 'waiting' for it?
What do you do as you wait?
And if you have experienced this and have also received the promise, what happened and what is your advice for people who are waiting for God's promises?
I would say that we have to find out what it is Jesus promised in the gospel because that’s our promises
often we’re trying to get Jesus to give us this worlds material thkngs , or thkngs we want but he doesn’t want for us , but what Jesus said we have is what he’s actually promised
he actually never really promised us this world or anything that is of this world
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.”
1 John 2:15-17
the things people long for and want and pursue material possession , big bank account , second vacation home third vehicle all the things humans lust for in the world the things that drive humans greed lust pride self promotion vanity the material
often we’re asking for the things he never promised so I’d say the most important part is to hear the promises of Christ to his disciples spoken in the gospel they are better than anything the world can offer because they are eternal and last beyond death which this world and its things cannot go beyond death but Jesus promises the best ones he makes start at a persons death
Spoken to a believer who was about to draw his final breaths after having his legs broken with a hammer he was facing the end of his time in this world and Jesus is offering this dying man life beyond his impending death
“Jesus said unto her,
I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me,
though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me
shall never die. Believest thou this?”
John 11:25-26 KJV
Jesus promises are bigger and better than this world this temporary illusion where we’re born with a guarantee of death
when we’re born into Christs kingdom we’re born with a promise of life everlasting and no death In a perfect world where Hod himself dwells among the people a Father and his children forever
often our prayers are for our own personal wants and desires and imaginations but when we start letting the things jesus promised us it’s going to begin to change what it is we pray for and see waiting on
things like this is what leads us to where we need to go
“Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
John 8:31-32, 34, 36
we need tbat promise to come we need to hear and learn the truth of Christs word and continue on following after where it leads we want that promise of truth and freedom from sin to come to pass it’s a promise of Christ
we want this promise to be true because it’s a promise we won’t be condemned and Unforgiven and judged without mercy
“
Be ye therefore merciful, as
your Father also is merciful.
Judge not, and
ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and
ye shall not be condemned:
forgive, and
ye shall be forgiven: give, and
it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For
with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”
Luke 6:36-38 KJV
that promise is worthy and something he did promise
I think if we let the gospel into our heart of belief it’s going to change our entire perspective of life , of our own selves , of God , and ends up conforming our wants and desires to the things he promised and the things he wants and desires himself and for us
many of the things we hold in high regard and lust for and want after are abominations to God
“And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but
God knoweth your hearts: for
that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.”
Luke 16:15 KJV
We’ve warped ourselves and this world and now we as humans lust for the wrong things imagine the wrong things and spend our lives chasing after the wrong things waiting for the wrong things
he promised to go through this world with us , endure hardships with us , provide for our needs , he promised earthly blessing and earthly hardships and said I’ll be with you and I’ll keep your everlasting soul safe.
but mostly our promises and rewards are not for this world or this temporary life but for the eternal Kingdom that the gospel proclaims in his true promise to believers
