The Holy Spirit didn't stop working if the sign gifts ceased then. He put away the foundational tools to establish the early churches and the apostles. From then He still heals, still empowers still rebukes, still quickens, is personal, can be grieved, is God.

There is no stopping of the Holy Spirits power. The gifts of the Spirit were part or the Holy Spirits work.. not the whole shebang.

Apply the Bible to your life and the Holy Spirit will guide you.
The gifts of the Spirit ARE part of His work with believers today. If you think God has changed and He no longer does what He did then, you are deceived.

Who is the Holy Spirit, can you expand?
Holy Spirit is God, co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and Son. See John 1:1

He seals a believer at the moment of eternal salvation, convicting them of sin before hand.

See Ephesians 2

He empowers the believer to serve Him and rebuked and admonishes them when they sin. He stays with a believer through thick and thin. He speaks to the believer as the apply Gods Word to their lives.

He is 'in the midst ' of a church, when that church has become one of His. He can be hurt, and is personal.

He blesses the process of church members resolving disputes and is with them in a special way as they do. See Matt 18.

He gives the gifts of faith, hope and love, and works in the fruits of the Spirit.

There is also more, as when Jesus works, and the Father.. the Holy Spirit does the same.

Close your eyes and the spirit of you is inside the body of flesh of you. Your own spirit says to your hands and feet to do this and that and as if an faithful servant it obeys your every desire. If you say for it to do evil it obeys or if to do good that bag of flesh never disobeys your spirits voice. There's that other voice though you hear beside your own spirits voice and if you say to your body to do evil and it obeys then you conscience is guilty while that other voice is not guilty because it was telling you not to tell your body to do it the whole while. Who then is that other voice sitting beside you in your spirits temple?

You are correct and all that you have said is good and necessary to know, but my question is, who is He to you, and how has He manifested in your personal life?

He bought people into my life who were Godly men grounded in scripture. They taught me how to run a Bible study, and share my faith and i learned of eternal security and assurance of salvation. The Holy Spirit gave me comfort and assurance, I experienced deep peace and quit biting my nails and grew in confidence in the faith.

He convicted me of the need to pursue purity in relationships and what I allow myself to watch.

There is also a lot more.

Amen.

The Spirit will never contradict the scriptures. God cannot lie nor is He double-minded.

There are three ways the Spirit speaks to us as recorded in scripture: Through the written word, Directly to our spirits, from those sent by the Spirit to us. All three will be in agreement.

God the Father gave all authority to God the Son. The Son could only do what He saw the Father doing. The Son sent the Spirit to us. The Spirit only speaks what He hears from the Son. The Spirit tells us what is yet to come.

Also, there is no need for extra-biblical books to complete what is written in scripture.
amen brother one of the best statements I’ve read about this matter since I’ve been here very well said I couldn’t agree any more

“All three will be in agreement.”

“This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ.

This is the true God, and eternal life.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:6-13, 20‬ ‭

notice he’s saying the father , son and holy ghost who are one is the true God who is manifest to us in Jesus Christ our Lord

when Jesus began preaching this happened first

“Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭3:21-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

that was about the fulfillment of prophecy he would receive the Holy Ghost and he would preach Gods everlasting words from his own mouth but notice how the spirit came from heaven

“the heaven was opened, and the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him,”

and Jesus begins saying things like this

For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:38‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world. I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.”
‭‭John‬ ‭8:23-24, 26-28‬ ‭

“It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63‬ ‭

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”
‭‭John‬ ‭18:37‬

After Jesus received the annointing of the holy ghost , As John sort of steps aside and Jesus begins preaching the gospel John explains

He must increase, but I must decrease. He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.

And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth;

. He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:30-36‬ ‭KJV‬‬

See the Holy Spirit is who preached the gospel of you notice in the gospel there are certain times the Father n and hilt ghost are present Jesus baptism , his transfiguration are two examples because that’s where we can see the fullness and truth of our One God manifest in plain sight

Jesus is the only place this is true

“For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the words of the holy ghost are the words of Jesus Christ , and those are the words of God the Father because they are one , and the only full view of God humans have

“For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”
‭‭John‬ ‭12:49-50‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The Holy Spirit is practically unknown to the Christian Church of today because for many He is just the power of God, for others, He is only found in the pages of the Bible, and for most, He stopped doing what He did in the first century.
Sad but true.

THE HOLY SPIRIT, IS HE REAL IN YOUR LIFE?
Yes, He is! He gives me joy, peace, and assurance. Jesus called Him the Comforter, and that is exactly what He is in my life. :)

I'd like to hear who He is to you; but I'll also share my own thoughts.

Walking in the Holy Spirit has been one of the biggest challenges for me in my walk. I think that's because it's so hard to find examples to follow these days. There are the people of God in the Bible and that helps, but living breathing examples of people walking in the Holy Spirit are hard to come by these days.

Like a lot of people I grew up with the mindset of New Testament law. By that I mean, instead of the Old Testament law we now have the New Testament that replaces the old law with a new one. But the Spirit is antithetical to the letter. Yes we use the New Testament as our guide, but only as directed by the Holy Spirit. Only then can God truly work in us and through us. It's been a long process for me, mainly because for so long I was unwilling to give up living by the letter.

For me it's not about signs, wonders and so-called manifestations of the Spirit. It's about overcoming the flesh and bearing fruit of the Holy Spirit. I'm not there yet, but I press on, hopefully to maturity. I've found that I have to make an active effort every day to listen for the Holy Spirit's voice and guidance; He won't force Himself on someone who isn't interested in listening.
“It's about overcoming the flesh and bearing fruit of the Holy Spirit. I'm not there yet, but I press on, hopefully to maturity.”

Men that’s correct but where did you learn that it’s about overcoming the flesh ?

“But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭10:16-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

this word of life

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭

You heard sometime The word of God regarding it , because you either heard someone sharing it with you or read it yourself. Or on a book ect all of the correct information about the Holy Spirit of Jesus The Son , is written down by men who were filled with the holy spirit . We learn when we start letting his word be the word of God that we accept and believe

so How does one even receive the holy spirit ?

“This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭3:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

In other words we hear the gospel that the Bible has recorded and sent out for all people to hear and believe we hear this and believe high is faith Roman’s 10:17 there above me then we walk by that faith

“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

( they heard it and believed and had faith so they stepped in the faith they heard and believed )

Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. ( note they don’t then stop listening )

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:38-39, 4

most of the wonders and signs were done by the apostles to establish the churches witness of Christ as true

the hilt spirit only comes from the gospel hes only known to those who accept the gospel and follow Christ and his ways taught to us

if we can know Jesus we do know the Holy Ghost that’s part of why he came to reveal himself to mankind and say “here I am this is what I’m saying believe in my with all your heart and soul and be saved “

that is the word of the Holy Ghost until the Holy Ghost becomes apparent in us we have certain sure word to accept and believe it’s what is written

“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭1:19-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God will always stand by his words the issue is some of us Won’t hear them and believe. The Old Testament law and prophets actually have a hidden witness of Jesus and the gospel all spoken by the Holy Ghost through chosen men of God who purposes the Bible to be where it is across the world in the languages they speak the same message in Vietnamese , English , Tagalog or whatever language
A person speaks today they can hear the gospel precisely because the words are recorded

My question was, "who is the Holy Spirit in your life"? Can you answer that in simple terms?
yeah my answer is he is everything Jesus promises his disciples in my life.

A Teacher from and through scripture not independent from scripture. This is what I was saying why that’s important

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God:

because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the way to know ofnthe soirit is of God is if your learning what’s written, having the light of Christ within us ( the holy spirit )

he’s a comforter , he reminds us of Jesus words in the gospel , a friend , a brother , a companion , he is Jesus Christ in my life because it’s Jesus spirit that’s why the word of Jesus is so important to actually knowing him and having a relationship with him he will not speak and then speak another thing it’s always going to be the same

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13:8‬ ‭

my point is if we want to know the Holy Ghost we need to learn from him and his words are the gospel. That’s how we can actually know the holy spirit of Jesus Christ and begin to experience a real relationship with him

“And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

he is our new life as Gods children

he’s exactly what the bi me says he is to me is my answer because there are many who can deceive and explain who he is , but Jesus is actually who he is and Jesus actually explained our relationship to him and his functions in our life we have to conform to the truth to know the spirit and let Jesus teach us about the soirit and then the spirit teach us about Jesus and remind us of his words

“Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me. These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:23-26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He’s never going to disagree with his own words , that’s how we can test the spirits we encounter within modern Christianity many are false one is true

“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭3:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I had many responses, more than I could handle. The Holy Spirit is in the Bible, and He is the overseer of the church; unfortunately, many Christians have been baptized intellectually, and have an affair with the Bible, but the Lord (the Spirit of the Lord) is missing in their lives.

Yeah and some “ Christian’s “ try to seperate the Bible from Christianity because they don’t like what it says , and want to share thier own mind and message .others accept it even when they don’t think it first or like what it says they go ahead and hear and believe and are saved

I always wonder how you and others arrive at the conclusion about "many Christians". Have you surveyed the Body of Christ or are you just making an assumption? It sounds very self-righteous to me. to say that "many Christians have been baptized intellectually, and have an affair with the Bible, but the Lord (the Spirit of the Lord) is missing in their lives".

Yes, I have. I speak out of experience. In 38 years of serving the Lord, I only found one church in NYC that was worth serving, trusting the pastor, and becoming part of the pastoral staff. After I moved, I found churches that are treated like it was a job. No interest in reaching out, ministering to one another, much less loving each other. These churches are religious corporations' jobs to fill, and a job to do.

Have you ever read the seven letters in Revelation? Ephesus was about to lose its lamp because they divorced themselves from their first love. I'm sure you are aware that the Holy Spirit is not something you wish to discuss.

I use the LSB, the NAS95, and sometimes the NKJV. I'm not interested in the KJV because of its archaic language.
