Damage is like death threats due to his false accusations against them.
Same reason the Catholic Trump kid got to settlement for defamation.
He should also be on the hook for paying back the city for the time and resources because the family had to have around the clock protection because of him
Not familiar with the story.

How is a death threat a damage unless there is an attempt to carry out?

If he said that He is an idiot.
I dont listen to these types of talk show people. I find them all to be a bunch of alarmist idiots and liars, both political stripes are equally so.
Then why are you in here defending him. You sound like a clown

Why not sue the dope company and the doctor who put the kid on the dangerous dope? They actually caused real damage.

I'm not defending him. I'm defending the idea of freedom of speech
Yeah we already covered this like a million times if someone can prove in court that your defamation caused them damages then you will be held liable. It seems you have a problem with rule of law or something

Yeah ok so I'll concede that if you cause actual damage then fine pay the damages and even penalties related to damages.
Lets define damages to actual material damages.
Lets also hold politicians and news agencies and make the standard the same across the board.

Now why are these patents not suing the pharmaceutical companies and the prescribing doctor?

They could try to sue but they are going to have the burden of to prove that the drug in question caused the guy to flip out and kill people.

I don't like the view either but they didn't use their platform to slander and defame grieving families either

This was brought up in court. There's literally a lady in prison right now because she drove by the family's home with a gun shouting Alex Jones infowars.
This was enough evidence for the jury to decide that Jones is defamation inspired these death threats and that's why he's being held liable

I obviously do not know the details of the case. She is in prison for brandishing or terroristic threatening? I suppose. And she testified in court?
Wow, people are crazy!
Do me a favor and post me a link about this woman.

Five years in a federal psychiatric facility would be real justice imo.
''She was sentenced to five months behind bars plus three years of supervised release, during which she may not access a list of conspiracy theory websites, including Alex Jones' Infowars. On Wednesday, Judge James Cohn told her there are no "alternative facts," the Associated Press reported.....''

We do live in a mad world.
This woman need psychiatric help not prison. Just Like that kid that shot the school up. He needed psychiatric help. This is a serious problem in our culture. Even when someone does seek help they get a pocket full of pills and zero help. Zero evaluation zero facility for people that need help, and folks who are a danger to themselves and to society are left out at large to seek havoc and filthy dirty disgusting politicians and talking heads politicize it. And thats ok by us as long as its something else tomorrow.

Agreed. Someone in their right mind doesn't do what she did to a grieving family. Thank Christ she didn't choose to fire a gun into the family home.

As for Nicolas Cruz his trial is a travesty.

He pled guilty, which should save the state alot of time due to there being no need for a criminal trial on multiple capital charges.

Ohhh noooo, that would make sense. The court instead has blocked off 16 weeks for not a trial, where the rules of evidence would apply, but rather a 16 week victim impact statement from every willing member of the families of Cruz's victims.

The judge is letting anything the state wants to bring into evidence come before the jury. Regardless of defense objection.

This would be prejudicial and inflammatory at the very least were this a criminal trial proceeding but, because this is not that the jury was driven to the school where the massacre occurred.

A school locked up sealed, for almost 4 years! NEVER SANITIZED! The carnage, the blood and tissues of his victims still spread over all of the different floors and rooms of the school. Nearly 4 summers heat, no AC, no ventillation.

Then the authorities opened that school to let jurors see all that carnage and get hit with those smells.
Likely never would happen in a criminal proceeding. But because this is the impact portion of the case, anything goes. At least according to the behaviors of his judge. And the lack of zealous defense of their client by Cruz's lawyers is aggravating.

Florida's DA and I'd say Governor want that boy dead. They want to inflame this jury so they sentence Cruz to death. All jurors must vote for the death sentence for that to apply.

When imo Cruz should be in a psychiatric facility. Or, sentenced to life w/o parole.

And this is going to go on for 16 weeks! The state tested their case in chief last week. Now the its the defense's turn.
What can they say when they were mostly quiet during the states case.

Cruz is sick and evil. He clearly premeditated this massacre. However, we can't abrogate the justice system because someone thinking themselves to possess the authority to do that in one particular case for their own reasons wants to ''get'' a particular defendant.

Because that then puts the law on trial, and bodes I'll for defendant's in the future. Justice is suppose to be blind, not vindictive.
