I am not a historian, nor a scholar, just a guy who reads. Lately my interest has been focused on what is frequently called “The Dark Ages”. I’ve studied the Inquisition, the Crusades, the suppression of the Cathars and the history of the Templars and Hospitallers.

The Church and the government, indistinguishable during this period being organizationally incestuous, were totally corrupt and abusive. But I have been astounded by the faithfulness and firm belief in Christianity exemplified by the common people. Their willingness to sacrifice and suffer for Christ is awe inspiring. And this they call “Dark Ages”.

The true dark ages are today, not a thousand years ago. We worship our idols, suppress the truth, kill our off-spring and murder our elders, and begrudgingly spend one hour a week in worship while complaining bitterly if the service goes too long and we miss the kick-off. We feast while half the world starves and spend much of our time attacking others for their faith.

The “Dark Ages” began for real in 1948. Hold on, we are just beginning to experience a hint of what will soon come.

There were some pretty "dark" times back then, do not discount just how terrible it was. It should be noted that it was the Catholic Church, and NOT our Christian Faith, that was involved in those times. It does make for some eye opening study/reading, especially when one adds in the Knights Templar.

As for today, yeah, things are not that great. But, the Church has made great strides in evangelizing the world, so, there is that.

(The “Dark Ages” began for real in 1948. Hold on, we are just beginning to experience a hint of what will soon come.)IMO, yes, for sure. I truly believe we are currently living in the "tribulations." And, things will get far worse as time goes by.

Actually, both were involved - it was the Catholic Church that persecuted the real Church during those times... :geek: ;)

Absolutely! Babylon desperately wants to hang the inquisition around the necks of the Catholic Church. Church leadership is surely culpable and they have publicly acknowledged their crimes. There is no excuse. But the people responsible for most abuses were from secular government; those who saw the opportunity for self-advancement. History records several instances when the Church actually tried (usually unsuccessful) to mitigate the most severe actions of power hungry secular officials. We don't hear about any of those. This is yet another hint about the source of real evil and from where it comes.

Hi this Alisha I have not seen in cc for weeks
I used to post on CC much more frequently. I love the people here and still enjoy reading posts and keeping up with friends, even though my attention has been elsewhere.

Thank you for noticing!

Heh. You need to visit our church. Might restore your faith in humanity a bit.

Thank you for the invitation. If I could relocate, Tennessee would be one of my first picks. It is a beautiful place.

I would respectfully mention that I haven't lost my faith in humanity. Indeed it is the quiet faithful ones, worshiping God and doing the best they can when the world is stacked against them, that keep me going.

Call it the Dark Ages if you like and yes it's getting dark here in the US. But what is amazing is that nothing stops God and the gospel message from getting out to everyone in every generation. As you probably know, persecution of the faith always results in the spread of Biblical Christianity and the gospel. Victory belongs to the Lord.

The world's always been dark. The Christian walk has always been a struggle between darkness and light. To me it seems a bit egotistical and arrogant to think of ourselves as those belonging to the "true dark ages." It minimizes all the struggles true believers have gone through down through the ages.

"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." Ephesians 6:12
