This is an older thread, but I just joined! I've always wanted to write, and if I ever did, it would be the story of meeting my best friend of 41 years. She was my baseball coach when I was 14 back in 1981, she was 16. Weekend trip to the cottage ended 45 minutes in with a car accident, Tammy with a broken back, left a paraplegic. She spent 11 months in the hospital with no escape from an annoying little kid who never left. She showed me who Jesus is.
sounds like a page turner. What will the title be?

So far, The story never written! Lol ;)
Time to get cracking

I just read another Babysitters Club special. This time most of the club go on a middle school trip for a week to...Hawaii.

They live in Connecticut...go to a public school and they can afford to do that? hmm.

Well...it IS fiction. Anything is possible.

I read another BSC, this time Dawns autobiography. It does not say what her dad does. But her parents split up and her mum leaves california to live in conneticut, taking Dawn and her brother with with her. Her mother then marries her childhood sweetheart and Dawn acquires a stepsister - Mary Anne, another club member.

But then Dawn decides to return with her brother to California to stay with their dad for good, and her dad remarries

?! I dont really get why her parents split up, in the books fights are mentioned but it doesnt seem like her mother is physically abused, but then why would she go to the other side of the country (where her mother grew up?) Or maybe its just arguments.

However Dawn is not specific about what happens. I thought in divorce, couples go to court and the judge decides for them.

Divorce as portrayed in the Babysitters club books is just some random thing parents do that just means a change of address, and two houses/homes. Which actually brings benefits, cos the kids then get two of everything.

In the Netflix series, Dawn is not a california blonde like in the books
She's hispanic, and the dad is gay.

The Babysitters Club books branched out into the mystery genre where they get stalked as babysitters.

What, no missing children? I was kind of thinking of a Madeline McCann scenario.

I picked up Babysitters Club super mystery number Two called Babysitters Beware

I read a Disney Princess junior chapter book

It was about Belle of Beauty and the Beast. She saves a bookshop from ruin. It seems children can run a bookstore better than adults can. haha

I would probably do a screenplay for a science fiction series where humanity and an alien race are involved in a total war scenario. 20 years in the past, they sent their main fleets to wipe out the other fleet at a site equal distant to both core words but both miscalculate and end up at their enemy's core world and destroy it as it is undefended.

20 years later, those fleets had been whittled away from constant battles and both humanity and the alien species face the prospect of extinction due to their hatred for one another. It would involve a crew of both humanity and the alien species who reluctantly join forces desperately trying to turn the tide so their species don't die out.

I was thinking more along the lines of Titan AE since the Earth was destroyed in that movie and humans became refugees

Everything died except those who were able to escape, but the reason the Earth was destroyed in the film was because humanity had designed an ability to create a new Earth (a ship that was like an ark) with all the lifeforms as well and an alien race was afraid of what humanity could accomplish.

why would the alien race be afraid. I would think they would just be curious about what humans do.

apparently I have not read widely enough when I remarked to an oldie I had never heard of Mary Stewart.

She was a bestselling novelist in the 20th century...but that was LAST century.

In the UK. I find that just because the British had an empire doesn mean everyone who speaks English knows about all their celebs. But they like to assume that just cos they are famous in the UK that everyone else in the entire world knows about them. ?!

eg Who were the Beatles?

wot, you have heard of the Beatles?

Or...whats a Spice Girl?

Also, people in the US have never heard of Cliff Richard. Sir Richard complained in his autobiography that he wasnt famous there lol. Though he outsold Elvis everywhere else.

Also, it seems like though he's a Christian, people here dont play his gospel music in church, nor Elvis. Everyone plays Hillsong. What is with that?

Anyway, I hope people know better than to read books by Hillsongers. One of them was 'God wants your money'

Do people here read Francine Rivers?

Just wondering. Shes the number one christian novelist. Even more than CS Lewis or the guys that wrote the Left Behind series. I think she even outsold The Shack.

If I recall, Redeeming Love was her bestselling novel and it was set in the California Goldrush, and it was about a prostitute who gets saved by this really nice (rich?) christian dude. I am sure she copied the plot of Pretty Woman but no apparently was based on the story of Hosea and Gomer in the Bible.
