Divorce is serious, yet it is justified in cases, while it should not be thought for a first option in any cases. If a spouse is stealing, lying, turning against the other spouse, that must be basis. Serious continued deception would justify it, from the other spouse. Remember still that Leah, and Jacob, were both in a time before the law from God given to Moses, who descended from them. Leah was not the one herself who was deceiving Jacob, and what had Leah ever done wrong? We are all sinners, Leah too, but that we are sinners is not itself any justifying basis for divorce. None of us know if divorce was already an option at that time when Jacob and Leah were married, while there was no stated rule for a man having only one wife.
We people can not justify divorce before God. We can convince ourselves it is ok. According to Scripture there is one reason for divorce .
Mat 5:31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
Mat 5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

I always kinda felt like, if you marry someone that is a liar, then it's kinda your fault. I don't think people are careful enough when they are dating. Often times there are red flags, and people often choose to ignore those red flags. Then when they get married, then the red flags can no longer be ignored. On my dating list, honesty is one of the very top things on my list. Because you got have an honest and loyal person. If they aren't that in dating then they won't be that in marriage.

”What God has joined together, let no man separate” is a promise not a command.

It's not the unforgivable sin. God forgave King David and it was Solomon who became King, not the children of legitimate relationships.

The spouse who turns away from the commitment and against the one married to would then have an adulterous relationship when there is opportunity. But if we want to claim we would live according to God's will there is a lot we are not doing. There are even things most of us who say we are Bible readers still miss, while knowing many verses we can say. God is indeed gracious with us giving abundant time and opportunity to grow, with forgiveness toward us for our shortcomings. Those whose marriages fell apart can still have forgiveness too.

Totally agree , the thread is about marriage/divorce .

So I wonder why doesn't God allow divorce when there is clear deception or lying ?
Marriage a vow. If one does not understand that vow, then He should not marry.

"...till death do us part, Amen."

to really know someone before marriage doesn't mean sleeping with them as the world will tell you.
What a messed-up mangle of a world we live in. I was fed this load of crap in public school as well. Teach your children well, my friends. Look around and know what's going down out there.

No time to expand on this, but it'll get you started. This is covered under "except for fornication.". Notice that adultery wasn't mentioned (KJV). That carried the death penalty. What it refers to is the so called virgin being found a liar when the marriage was consummated. Her dad was to protect her from playing the harlot, so to speak, and give her to this man for marriage. However if the "tokens of her virginity " were shown by the blood on the sheet, then the man was punished with a major fine and not allowed divorce. Why?
Because there was proof of virginity at the marriage bed.

Elders and deacons were required to be married as a part of their qualifications.
I myself am banned from local church ministry for this very reason. God can still use me just the same. Just a temporary situation.

I get what Paul is saying ... and I agree with what. you have said, but also, on the other side of that coin, I know plenty of married people with a very unfulfilling sex life. At times I am told it can be more frustrating than being single when you are faced with what is rightfully yours but it isn't being made available for lengthy periods of time, through the partners choice or through illness etc. Sorry to put it crudely, but it is true.
I am told that the loneliest people in the world are married people whose spouses are lying right next to them but do not love them. :(

We really need to study pray ask Him about this. When a man and woman come together.. for God that is so sacred. God never wanted divorce. You do notice all the things we do in our lifes where God says "Ok" yet its not what He wanted its what you wanted.

God sees them as one. Its like Christ in the Father the Father in Christ and we are in Christ. Its not just words or some nice idea or thought. We are one! Same with man and woman. Its the only way life happens. Man has justified having, done for, or marked by a good or legitimate reason for what he does today that goes against God and His word.

There’s wisdom in what you share but be careful blaming the victim.
