Isn't the problem with the CLAIM GOD IS SPEAKING THROUGH YOU but that no one understands it LIKE the way they did when they really were speaking 'in tongues' ?

They SPOKE ONE LANGUAGE (unknown) but everyone heard and understood what they were saying in THEIR OWN.

If I was typing in the 'pure language' then EVERYONE from every language in the world reading this sentence would KNOW and understand it perfectly, NEVER HAVING learned or heard it before. That is the tongue of God. Nothing confusing, nothing hidden, not private interpretations, etc.

I believe it was the language that was spoken before the tower of Babel when GOD divided it up into the many different ones we now speak.

Maybe the 'language' we will all speak beginning on the Lords Day/Millennium/when the kingdoms of this world become His, at the the 7th trump.
speculation

as you state, YOU believe

So I decided that cessationist are right. The Bible is " that which is perfect" for when gifts will cease. Now we know how to pray and live. I was a pentecostal for most of my life. But I find that if I ask in prayer the one giving tongues is an evil spirit. You've got to be careful. Not every spirit is of God. Try the spirits.
Better put on your flack jacket. Your about to be attacked.

God is not going to condemn something that we know from the Church Fathers will exist until God returns and we see His PERFECTION [[((the PREFECT to COME))]].

and anyone who claims they spoke in Tongues but discovered it was not of God is probably telling the TRUTH. they were probably doing it by their own efforts. it's the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD that gives UTTERANCE before Tongues are Spoken. so, it's not a human trying to speak such things but the SPIRIT of GOD within a Believer giving the effort and direction to Speak.

have you ever went down the entire Members list here and placed your finger on each Name and allowed the Holy Spirit to Discern them?

Try it!

some are as cold as ice and claiming to be of God!

I agree. I have come to that conclusion myself. these folks who think you can 'teach' people to speak in tongues and get them muttering unintelligible syllables and so on...just no. I once heard fake tongues and I was with other believers who did speak in genuine tongues, as I do myself, and when this person (a pastor actually) began to 'speak' we all opened our eyes (we had been
praying) and looked at each other. I got goosebumps and knew it was fake...I can only describe it as a growling noise but I don't think he was growling.

I certainly understand when you say "funny,
however I believe the word, ironic, is more appropriate. Just my understanding, not intended to be a correction.
I did mean 'funny' as in ironic. :) They just don't see it.

i agree that claiming you can teach someone to Speak in Tongues is a False Demonic Doctrine the same as Cessation, no Free Will, Prosperity, we are little gods, the list is long here...

teaching someone to Speak in Tongues is REMOVING the Holy Spirit from the equation WHO gives the UTTERANCE!
that is no different than if you are told to sow $100 dollars today you will get back ten-fold tomorrow.

we do Reap what we Sow but according to God's Word and His Will.
we do Speak in Tongues when we are FILLED with the Spirit of God and are given the UTTERANCE.

no other way!

Just so. I was a teen-ager alone in my room. Received Christ alone in the living room when I was just 5. I know God is real and I know Jesus died for me and has made Himself real to me.

I like to think about things and back off from being forced especially by a 'gang' of people. I think I know what is good for me better than a gang of people.

Praise God welcome. We try to go where the sweet holy Spirit leads. For me been to many different Churches and seen the gifts flowing...from Baptist to Word of Faith. I could be wrong but I don't this this was about tongues. Father..

Never in 61 years met anyone that said they spoke in Tongues and it was not the sweet holy Spirit. That's one person I will never touch debate about. Later

same here!

when i am forced i tend to rebel.

but when i am alone, i am willing to allow God to break me and allow His Will to lead me.

it's why now in my life i don't pressure anyone when i present God to them or am discussing God in a proper setting for Teaching and Preaching. the Holy Spirit does the work, we just plant the seed.

There is a lady, "Nanette" on YT channel "Narcissism Exposed" who uses the phrase, "If the devil can't get you he will send a narcissist".
I recall the verse, "Be still and know that I am God", far better to be alone with Him that with a crowd and some of the adversaries horde.:):giggle:(y)

In the book of Acts we see converts eager to receive the Holy Spirit...they are not dragged down to the front of a building, with Joe and Sally and Susan placing hands on them (which Paul decried as to letting a stranger do such a thing) and commanding them to speak in tongues.

Run

I determined that no one is going to 'lay hands on me' ever again unless they ask first and even then it is doubtful. Actually the last person who wanted to know if I would let them pray for me received a resounding 'no'. There were very good reasons for that no and I had no doubt he wanted to influence me.

Oh.. And I also just love 'God told me to tell you' Makes me wanna scream God told me to tell you that you are hearing things. Actually, the last person to try that one on, got No, God did not tell you a thing. This is not God. The spirit operating through them got pretty angry at that response.

sigh

God showed me that salvation was real even at that age and it just made sense to me, after that, to acknowledge Him

Sometimes I have wished I could be saved over...as in just found out...but God knows what I may have been saved from if not so young

We just don't know but one day we will

i have seen the phrase used pretty loosely, God told me to do or say.

in my experience, it's been whenever i Teach, Preach the same as when i have given. i felt an URGE to give and i could see a specific Dollar amount. i went to the people and said, I FEEL LIKE I AM TO GIVE THIS TO YOU. you will know it is of God because i will normally hear, how did you know? that was the exact amount we are short for this or that.

now, i know it was God who URGED me to give, or to say something specific. but i don't say, God told me. He did, but that is very improper.

i like how Peter said it, why did you LIE to the Holy Spirit?
now, the Holy Spirit was inside Peter, but [[DISCERNMENT]] was how Peter knew they lied.
and Discernment is how i feel God warning me, alerting me, urging me.

but Peter never said God told me, he said, why did you LIE to the Holy Spirit.

I agree about the prompting of the Holy Spirit. And also the checks which I wish I had always listened to but sometimes went headlong into problems I could have avoided. Works both ways.

Agree that we certainly hold back from 'God as our guarantee we are always truthful' and so we begin whatever with the words "God told me....etc" The amount of people who do and say that sort of thing are uncomfortably high and I think it can lead to a person being deceived in that they believe themself infallible or the person to whom they speak believes it.

Yet in some circles, that is the norm.:cautious:
