Since we are called to edification, are we accountable when we are negative and bring other christians down, especially when it comes to godly things like marriage/relationships?​

I do want to clarify that I'm not talking about shared real life experiences. I mean things that are said for the purpose of dramatic effect or just because someone is having a bad day and wants to make sure everyone else does too, etc.
 
Eh...I'm not sure. So much of what goes on in life is due to misunderstanding of the meaning behind the original thought. For instance, I may try to harm someone (as an example), but they take it as a compliment, then when I try to help, someone gets hurt. I try to be funny, and someone gets offended, etc. Bottom line, I think it's more about the purpose of the giver's original thought/idea than it is if the receiver gets helped or hurt...
 
Yeah..that's kinda why I wanted to clarify ...people who intentionally drag other believers down....

I agree, God knows our intentions and our hearts and that's what He sees. False prophets can do good actions and maybe be a "good example" for others but at the end, God see's their hearts.
 
I would agree, it would be the intention of the heart! If you didnt mean to then your intention wasn't bad at all, doesn't mean to say it helped but it was not intended that way. If you intentionally bring someone down then thats different and once you realise you need to repent.

Sorry, nanabean :) It's just that all of the gender bashing, bickering, bitterness and verbal body slams that have been overwhelming the singles forum in recent weeks have taken a bit of a toll on me. I'm earnestly praying about it and I hope others will join with me in this. :) As you know, my nature is normally much more upbeat than this. :) Until recently, this was an encouraging, uplifting, humorous forum.

ON A POSITIVE NOTE, I would like to say that those of you who have posted thus far in this thread are among those who have always been a tremendous encouragement to me personally. I'm sure you have to others as well. :)
 
I would agree with those who said it is about the true intentions you hold in your heart. We can not see the hearts of men, only God sees this. We just the fruit that they bear. Thanks to all of the people in the forums who continuously lift up their brothers and sisters and make a sincere effort in edifying one another :D
