If you think you know, please tell me.
it’s all based on Gods promise to wash away the sins of the people and give a new beginning to them. When we get baptized this is why we get baptized
“
John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. And there went out unto him all the land of Judæa, and they of Jerusalem, and
were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.”
Mark 1:4
you’ll run across people saying water baptism changed or ended but after the cross it didn’t change
“Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Acts 2:38 KJV
Some will then say well it doesn’t say water so that’s not water baptism but
“And as they went on their way,
they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
And Philip said,
If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.
And he answered and said,
I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and
they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.”
Acts 8:36-38 KJV
some will say well that’s just a Jewish thing but
“While
Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that
on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.
Then answered
Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And
he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.”
Acts 10:44-48
Really there’s no evidence anywhere of baptism changing at all according to scripture it’s where one begins as soon as one believes they then act upon it
God had promised a cleansing flow of water of life that would wash clean the people sins ( John the Baptist is actually fulfillment of the promise to send Elijah the tishbite , To prepare the people for the messiahs first coming to earth but that’s another subject )
through this prophet would come the remission of sins not as if he was the source but we get baptized in water because it includes us on the death , burial and resurrection of Jesus it’s why you go beneath the water as of dead and buried , and hen your lifted up from the water as of your being raised again to a new life
“Know ye not, that
so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like
as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
For if
we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:”
Romans 6:3-5
the originals who came to John ready had faith in the death for sin and resurrection because the prophets already promised it beforehand
in scripture like Isaiah 53 and several others they were all waiting for John the Baptist to arrive because of this promise that concluded the prophets ot
“Behold,
I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the
Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.”
Malachi 3:1 KJV
John would come preaching repentance and remission of sins and faith in Christ as he did And the. Jesus would appear and give the new covenant
see how the prophets end there ? The gospel begins there with johns arrival
“The
beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God; As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Which shall prepare thy way before thee. ( Malachi 3:1)
The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight. ( isaiah 40:1-5)
John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.”
Mark 1:1-4 KJV
our sins are remitted through Jesus death and resurrection that’s why we get baptized by submersion in water it is an act of faith for anyone who believes “ Jesus does for my sins and was raised again from death for my justification “
tha yes e only reason we get baptized it’s what God said to do to be included in Jesus death and resurrection as you read there in Roman’s 6 but also it’s elsewhere
“in whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in
putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.”
Colossians 2:11-12 KJV
whether one says remission of sins or circumcision of the flesh either way it’s about our sins being washed away in Jesus death and about us being given the power to live a new life no longer condemned
it’s our part in Jesus death , burial and resurrection according to faith alone meaning what he said
“So then
faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17 KJV
When we hear this
“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
Mark 16:15-16 KJV
if we believe Jesus said this there’s little doubt whether we will go and get baptized for remission of sins but if we reject it and refuse to believe , why would we bother getting baptized ?
faith requires us to hear what God has said and believe this will lead us to act in those ways baptism is basic faith you believe Jesus does for your sins you then get baptized in his name for remission of sins
