Thats what Cindy the PM said. Hospitals, doctors and pharmacy you still have to wear a mask. Vaccines requirements are gone but available to those who want or need it. If you test positive for covid only you have isolate for 7 days not your household. And yes elections are around the corner.
Lots of people still wearing masks though in some workplaces ...workplaces are their own kingdoms and can make up their own rules, but, I supoose if you dont agree with them you can find work somewhere else or just refuse to work.
I think it also depends on how immunocompromised or paranoid you might be.
Also I think some might have used isolation as an excuse to not work or go to school. At any rate I think its a relief as most people had got it and recovered by now though yes, those who were vulnerable were hardest hit. Most reported that the flu felt worse...but there is vaccine for the flu as well.
I think I will wear my mask for other reasons though...smelly stinky childrens feet being one of them. It protects my nose lol

In nz most business are small businesses not huge multinationals. It did affect organisations that had lean staff. Often there was not a pool of casual or relief workers to step in.
Also, people will always be attracted to higher wages paid overseas. I think for the average person who may only have one source of income, if that source is not steady and secure then it contributes to the stress.
However millenials etc are now pretty much used to the gig economy and are prepared to travel to wherever the work is. I think that some people would have complained no matter what the govt did anyway, for some it comes down to personal responsibility for health and wellbeing. But people still do stupid things and you cant legislate stupid.

I agree that I won't take the vaccination, but that didn't answer my question, on whether or not I can travel to NZ and not be vaccinated.
I think it depends on your countries rules not ours. I think if you going for any length of time people recommend travel insurance but not everyone buys this.
eg if you fall ill in nz, that you end up in hospital you may have treatment for free under public health, unlike some countries we dont turn people away if they cant pay on the spot.

Quarantine rules are strict though for everything else (bioseceurity) please dont bring your fruit flies and mutant algae.

I think as long as you are not carrying nuclear weapons, you can travel in nz.

Otherwise...try and spend as much time (and money) as you can in nz. You CAN visit volcanoes and climb the mountains if you want but you do so at your own risk.

Really considering putting my kid in another school next year after seeing two classes outside doing phys ed today (a ball game) and both teachers and all the students were wearing masks! Outside! What madness!
a lot of teachers are still wearing them until end of term but I havent since mandates dropped.
I think kids dont really have a choice in what school they go to usually its the parents decision and if they dont like it too bad, but it disrupts their learning if they constantly changing schools. Besides, most schools would be doing the same thing anyway so even if you put your kid in another school would still have the same problem.

The fees for me would be the biggest barrier. Was talking to others from church about the schools they are looking into. McAuley has a term fee which is $200 plus compared to Manukau Christian School which is $2000 plus a term. My kid also wants to leave her current school so still checking out other options but it was a number of reasons we are weighing the pros and cons of another school for next year.
You'll just need to work more to pay the fees if you want your child to go to an independent or charter school.
I have heard that the ministry is scrapping the decile system though although not sure how thats going to change things. Most low decile state schools dont ask for donations, they are not allowed to.
I am not sure how church schools work whether preference is given to children of church members, although I have heard that catholic schools you need to be a paid up member of the catholic church. But thats a different story. Non catholics sometimes send their children there but I dont know if they get charged more in 'donations'/fees.
