Sodom and Gomorrah both had kings, so they had governments.
Yes they both had governments but the scripture you quoted isn't addressing government. You made an application the scripture hasn't. It's a spurious relationship.

The verse is clear, the cities did not help the poor and needy.

“‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. (Republicans) They were haughty and did detestable things before me. (Democrats) Therefore I did away with them as you have seen. Ezekiel 16:49-50....GOD required the government to care for the poor and needy.
That was about the people of those cities.
If it were about government God would not destroy the people but over throw the government, which is show consistently through out the OT.
If ya bother to read the Bible you will find that God required the people to care for the poor. You know all that stuff about not harvesting the edges of your fields and not going over it a second time. The book of Romans has a prescription for Government purposes.

God gave care for the elderly to their sons.
And gave specific instruction for care for the poor.

For I was hungry, and you didn’t feed me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give me a drink. I was a stranger, and you didn’t invite me into your home. I was naked, and you didn’t give me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’
“Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’
“And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’
“And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.”
Matthew 25:42-46....

remember this when a politician wants to cut Social Security, Medicare or Food Stamps. If you support them, you might join them.
The government is not about Christianity. smh

That's your determination on voting?

The problem is politicians make cuts to EVERYONE. No mention of biblical principles here. They did not help anyone in need. This is why I have a cooler in my van with drinks to give out to those in need on hot days.
Please. Let's see a list of all those cuts. Otherwise, you are just blowing smoke. I can have free coffee/water/kleenex/and sundry other things every time I walk into the clinic I go to when I need to. It is not a Christian institution and yet they are all about helping people

How about all the checks given out during the (cough cough) pandemic? not to mention the gobs of money that went into the ether. This was all done by the government. I am not giving my thoughts on any of it, but just pointing out to you the fact you are simply spouting off

Seriously dude. Thou knowest not whereof thou dost speak.

The cities had governments, GOD held them accountable.
see above post

you are not seemingly aware of OT history and the fact God was in covenant with them

The US is not in covenant with God and neither is in any other country

WE, as believers, are in covenant with God.

I think we are done here.
No one is going to agree with what you are saying since you quote scripture out of context and try to make a case with God that has nothing to do with reality

Pretty much done seems to be so

With respect to places like Sodom and Gomorrah, those places were so messed up, everyone had to die; while other places where rulers were evil, but there was a salvagable poulation (like Israel) the rulers and their supporters are destroyed.

In Israel, provisions for the poor came from alms, and the neat rule where poor people could eat from the fields as they travel as long as they weren't taking stuff with them. People were expected to be charitable... I don't know off hand if any offerings went to the poor; but they were mostly for priests and levites. I don't think they had a poor tax.

I think social-security/medicaid/ and food stamps are good programs we should support, though. Ideally we wouldnt need them, because family would take care of family; but our world is far from ideal.

This is a filthy, unfounded lie.
Geez I wonder what he thinks of Libertarians

I have never seen so much of nothing being offered as something to discuss.

Oh wait...I have

This is what happens when you start with a premise and then choose scripture to support it.

Let God be true and every man a liar.

Exactly

That principal applies true everywhere. Its' like disliking someone and then looking for a crime to pin on them...a fav of the politicians
