I was reading a commentary recently, and the author speculated that what paralyzes and stunts the growth of mature would be Bible believers is fear, pride, ego. Stuff like that.

I think it’s better to take a gentle and humble approach to teaching Christians, especially the “mature Christians” since they, ironically, are typically the least teachable. Give them the facts, let them make a choice, and move on. If they have questions then answer them. If they argue then try not to engage them.
Thanks. I appreciate you taking the time to share.

Thanks for replying. Do you think if people read Philippians 2:3 pryor to engaging the results could be different?
Nope.

Remember the "man born blind" story in John's Gospel?
People are more focused on winning their argument than understanding or seeing the Messiah.

The two groups having the debate agreed on very few things....
One of their points of agreement was that only God could cure a man born blind.
Another was that only God could make a deaf mute hear and speak. (Story in Matthew)

Notice how the discussion focused on their debate instead of the validity of the miracle by God/Messiah?

People over the centuries have not changed...the sins of old are still committed today.

I ask this question because as I enjoy going through all the different posts on this site I find that threads often deteriorate to the point where opposing views are polarized and the participants seem to be less concerned with the opposing viewpoint and more focused on what one already believes. Being right seems more important than ministering truth in love. Iron no longer sharpens iron but seems to sever unity. What are your thoughts?
I agree with you. What things are you wanting to get into. I am a student of theword but nothing great.

I think of contending for the faith as interaction with those outside The Church.

What we have here is more about internal discussion.
It does breakdown into differences & disputes more often than it should perhaps. I'm not sure there is any way around that.
There is a way around it. God will show us if we are open with eachother and are willing to except what the bible says and not church or personel doctrin

What scripture tells us to do about these divisions is to put up with one another. Eph. 4:1-6.

Scripture warns against foolish quarrels.
Titus 3:9 But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, arguments, and quarrels about the law, because these things are pointless and worthless. Bible.

Scripture tells us not to fight evil, but to replace evil with good. Romans 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

It is true that demons are drawn to the church. They are fighting Christ, and the church is the place to find Christ.
“What scripture tells us to do about these divisions is to put up with one another. Eph. 4:1-6.”

amen sister he also agrees here

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved,

bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

Nothing in particular at the moment but I truly appreciate the offer. I post from time to time asking questions and if you view one I would certainly enjoy your input. Mostly I just enjoy a thorough covering of a topic. It makes my mind a fertile ground for meditation. And as I read as I feel led I share.

I'm fine with whatever you choose. Perhaps we can start a thread called along the way or in search of truth and just let the Lord lead.

As we start lets ask our Father to give us eyes to see and ears to hear not mans word but His word.

Luke 13

  1. Verse 22. And He went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.

Jesus is traveling through the cities and villages. He is reaching out to all the people and teaching them as He travels toward Jerusalem. He wants to get to Jerusalem but He taes time out for all the people.

Verse 23. Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,

Lord why is it that more people do not receive your message. It was the same then as it is today. Few want to hear The True Word of God.

Verse 24. Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

Strive = work to enter by the strait gate. There are many that want to enter in but few are willing to put in the work and are therefor unable to enter in.

Verse 25. When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:

When people come to the realization that they have been led down primrose lane by false teaching and lazy study habits it will be to late; the gate will have been closed and they will have to face the hard reality; they did not make it.

Verse 26.Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

But Lord we have taken Communion in Church every week for years, we have worked in the streets of our community for you helping people and bringing them your word.

Verse 27.But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

Harsh words for a “Loving Lord and Savor” or are they. These “christians” have been working some most of their lives in a church, giving money to that church faithfully following the teachings of that church; So just how could Jesus say to them “depart from Me you workers of iniquity” What did we read I Isiah 28, 1st Corinthian's 3, Hebrew's 5 They did not do as the Berean's did. They did not listen then go home and study to make sure that what they were taught was what The Word of God said; and sadly it was not it was the traditions of men that make void the word of God. Thus those sad words “Depart from Me I never know you”

Verse 28. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

There will most likely be millions of people that find themselves in this place. They followed everything their pastor told them they believed the doctrine of their church, they did everything that they were told to do. Unfortunately what they were told to do was 180 degrees from what the word of God told them to do. They failed to read and take head to Gods word.

2nd Corinthians 11:12-15

But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. 13For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

It is sad that so many Christians do not know how to test the fruit and pick there fruit from the right tree. It is going to be a sad, sad day for those on the outside looking in. They thought for years that they were doing right and then to find out that you were misled by some man preaching out of his own mind and the doctrine that he was fed instead of learning the truth of God's word and bringing it forth like a good shepherd.

Verses 29&30

29And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. 30And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

There are going to come from all 4 corners of the world, from every race, creed and color everyone of them over comers singing that new song with a new name and a white robes. The poorest of them shall be the richest in the kingdom of God.

I hope you enjoy this and l look forward to our discussions

I wanted to start a different thread but it has not been posted yet
Enter through the narrow gate:

As I start this thread I ask Gods blessing up each and every one that takes part in it.

My hope is that this thread will be a place where we can put aside the doctrine of men that make void the word of God and just study His word in the manor He instructed us.

Acts 17:10-12

And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11.These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. 12.Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

The Berean's received the word with all readiness of mind: They were open to the word that Paul and Silas taught but they did not stop there they searched, they examine and investigate the scriptures; The Old Testament. To make sure that this new teaching was true.

Isaiah 28:9-13

Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

10For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

11For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

12To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

13But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

1st Corinthians 3:1-4

And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?

Hebrews 5:11-14

11Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. 12For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

What do all of these passages have in common? They all let us know that we need to study The Word of God, we need to see growth in our christian life and in our knowledge of Gods word. So lets be like the Berean's lets get into Gods word chapter by chapter and verse by verse so that we can come to a clearer understanding of Gods word, and grow as Christians.

Lets try and keep it respectful; backup what you say with scripture and remember that it is our Father who is in charge.

Lets start with some of Jesus basic teachings

Matthew 7:13&14

13.Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14.Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Luke 13:22-30

22And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.23Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, 24Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. 27But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. 28There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. 29And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. 30And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

Isaiah 35:8

And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.

New Testament Old Testament God word is the same. We do not just hap hazardously make our way into Heaven.

We will pick this back up with Luke 13.

Amen to your prayer. If I may: perhaps it will be better to begin with just a passage and explanation verse by verse as you began and add supportive verses as we go along. You have obviously considered at length this passage but it might be easier to follow if we take smaller bites and chew a little longer. I for one would learn more and be able to retain better. It would allow for quicker responses and be more inclusive of more people. Your thoughts?

That is a very good idea and you are right in the begining little nuggets might be better than the whole bar
