12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children
of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory,
the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 3:5-21 does a very good job of answering your question.

I might not be able to describe this perfectly but does it mean believing in him because you heard his name or read his name and something happened?

Consistent with the theme of the Bible, Isaiah 43:10 explains the details clearly, which is that we are chosen to believe:

NLT - "But you are my witnesses, O Israel!" says the LORD. "You are my servant. You have been chosen to know me, believe in me, and understand that I alone am God. There is no other God--there never has been, and there never will be."

his name is best understood by his “ identity “ which is what the gospel is about it’s about our lord Jesus who he is , what he said , what he did

his identity is salvstion for believers if we know him as the gospel presented him we will come to know personally his name ( his presence his identity his character his spirit ) those things imparted To us because we’re hearing and believing the gospel is what makes us his children

If we believe the gospel we’re going to zero in on just who Jesus really is and we’ll know he is the way truth and life and the source of our salvation

his name is above all authority he is the lord his word is the word of the lord if we focus on Jesus with our heart and soul and mknd and strength we’re going to be saved and glorified into eternal children of God through hearing the gospel and believing in the one the gospel reveals To us the lord

Belief only is insufficient since even devils believe and tremble according to James, so it requires action as well to demonstrate your belief by being obedient.

Mark 16:15-16

15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Belief + baptism = salvation
