If Jesus forgave us all our sins, why did Paul caution us?
Paul made it abundantly clear that sin has consequences:
“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows” (
Galatians 6:7). Paul then describes the end of those who indulge in sinful behavior:
“The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction” (Galatians 6:8).
he’s forgiven the sins we leave behind us
“whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for
the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;”
Romans 3:25
and he has given us a new testement to deal with times we fail to walk right it requires us to repent and acknolwedge what we have done , like David did , and he’s promised to forgive those who repent as long as we are merciful we can expect mercy going forward everything we’ve done is forgiven now we have to live under this law
“For
if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
but
if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
Matthew 6:14-15 KJV
This isn’t Moses law it’s the gospel . It’s what Jesus is teaching us who come to him and believe
the cross is the atonement for all sin , when we accept Jesus the atonement t has already been made now we just need to hear and believe his word in order to walk in him anew we have to learn the new testsment
we’ve all sinned already now we need to all repent what we leave behind God leaves behind and if we have mercy we will receive mercy now
Paul makes it really clear in many places
“But if ye
be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now
the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”
Galatians 5:18-21 KJV
we’ve all done some things that are sinful before oaul
Is explaining we cannot keep
Living like tbat and expect salvation we have to start hearing and believing the lords word so we can come to repentance
if I take Paul’s letters and omit anything he says about repentance and just repeat grace verses it’s distorting the message in all his epistles he says it in all of them
“Be ye therefore
followers of God, as dear children; and walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
But
fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
For
this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore partakers with them.”
Ephesians 5:1-7 KJV
ongoing sin is something we need to deal with when we recognize what we’re doing sometimes we don’t know something is sin but then we learn about it to en we need to repent of it
we’re here now
“If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: but
if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
1 John 1:6-10
we can’t hide our sins now we have to acknolwedge them so he can cleanse us. We have a New Testament that deals with sin and the atonement is the source of forgiveness not the process
