All the big name Word of Faithers, Gloria & Kenneth Copeland, Cindy Jacobs, Creflo Dollar, Rod Parsley, Jesse Duplantis, etc., claim they have authority over the weather. We sure could've used some of that authority the last few days.

I know, right?

God keeps exposing them for the frauds and charlatans that they are, yet so many people still follow them.

But that's all part of the "not enduring sound doctrine" and "heaping up teachers" thing.

Thus saith the LORD GOD; woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing! The prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die, saith the Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

Weather control is a pretty rare, if not a mostly unavailable, spiritual gift. If I remember correctly, only Elijah and Jesus had it. I recall the "two witnesses" of Revelation have the power to shut heaven so that it will not rain. Those televangelists appear to be in it for their own glory and monetary gain.

Here in the Chicago area Jim Bakker is no longer on broadcast tv & I don't subscribe to cable and imagine that Bakker and his 'profits' would be in the above category too. OH! OH! I misspelled prophets too late now.

i don't believe one who has true Faith goes around and professes it. but i have seen it begin to down pour on my farm while i'm in the fields and pray to God to hold it off until i finished and it happened. i've seen it rain when i've prayed for it. i live in the high desert high plains of the mountains so water is a luxury when it happens. we get like 7 inches of rain for the entire year and most irrigating water comes from snowfall.

but as far as Florida is concerned, my brother, homosexual, tells me Florida has more homosexuals and homosexual sympathizers than California and San Fran. maybe this Hurricane was wiping out people who've defiled God and were never going to come to Christ? no amount of Faith would have stopped God from destroying Sodom. Abraham tried. whose to say the homosexual community in Florida is just as vile if not more so than all of Sodom?

Very interesting. Would the teaching of Jesus in this verse be applicable? Matthew 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Jesus 'calmed' the sea by 'faith'? The actual control seems to be in the Father's hands?

No, we certainly wouldn't want to go around professing our faith.

I understand that like this:

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 KJV
1Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

I believe Paul's point was it's necessary to love before anything else.

Paul didn't literally become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal, or give his body to be burned. The mountain-moving thing is symbolic in my opinion.

Though I have no doubt Jesus could literally move a mountain, I tried it in faith one time and nothing happened. I guess it isn't for me to deface the earth and cause a panic in my community by levitating mountains around. That being said, I live on a mountain and had it been uprooted I likely would not have survived that.

I think mountains mean difficult obstacles in life.

Yeah they don’t get who’s word creates faith and actually does control the weather

“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭4:39‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I read a Copeland book in the eighties he was applying “ faith to a yaght he wanted and couldnt afford for a few hundred thousand and explaining I the book how “ you too can apply faith to prosper financially and beat down tbat ole devil “

It just rang in my ears as this

“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭6:6-12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

and from then On I just could never really put much stock in Kcm he became rapidly all about “ seeing financial seeds into his ministry “ and “ buying love gifts his books cds and , video tapes and cassettes ( in those days ) now days dvd of course and many others sprang from that also which he had sprang from others doing it

I watched a program years ago about how these very rich tv mega pastors avoid taxes by selling thier products as ministry material and then they had done irs investigations on several d found them to be mega wealthy hindreds of millionaires actually some of the wealthiest people in America and also other nations its the same men have always exploited peoples trust and faith for financial gain but the new testsment speaks a curse on them

But a blessing for the content with what we have knowing about eternal salvation is the great news we walk for

the desire for wealth and fame and riches and earthly power and popularity isn’t of God it’s of the world and offers many snares and tools and traps along the way searching for the wrong things we find them

That's true. Tax-exempt entities like churches get tax breaks so they can benefit others. It's illegal to use ministry money for personal enrichment, but they do it anyway. They just say they needed to fly the ministry's jet to the Bahamas to preach "the gospel" and bam, there ya go.

They havent recovered from thier failed Trump prophecies. I think they are letting that calm down before they act radical again.

You’re right about how they use the funds they are given: they simply contend everything they purchase/do is for the “ministry”.

501c3s are given tax breaks because the US government assumes their functions offset things that would otherwise be paid for by the government: lessoning administrative burden, providing food for the poor, shelter, improving community relations, etc. There is no inherent altruism in the US tax code: only benefits based on transactional relationships.

You're right. The tax breaks are theoretically intended to serve the greater societal good and lessen the need for governmental programs.

Do they really? That would be rather presumptuous. At the same time there seems to be weather control technology that can in fact change weather. The National Science Foundation has published a report on this.
