Burning bush? a Cloud? a pillar of fire? Thunderings and Lightnings? a Light so bright it knocks you of your horse and blinds you for 3 three days? a still small voice? These are all scriptural, and what is that hallowed ground we are to tread with Him? oh, and who is it? John 14:18,26, John 15:26, John 16:13, Acts 20:28, Galatians 4:6, Eph 4:21, 2 Cor 3:17, 1 John 2:20,27, and so many more

I think that it depends on what, exactly, the Lord has purchased them to do.

1Corinthians 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

2 Corinthians 5:5 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

Elihu's rebuke to Job says:

14For God speaks in one way and in another,
yet no one notices.

15In a dream,
in a vision in the night,
when deep sleep falls upon men
as they slumber on their beds,

16He opens their ears
and terrifies them with warnings

17to turn a man from wrongdoing
and keep him from pride,

18to preserve his soul from the Pit
and his life from perishing by the sword.

...and I recently put the most amazing way in my signature.

26He prays to God and finds favor;
he sees God’s face and shouts for joy,
and God restores His righteousness
to that man.

Didn't Job himself say, "I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees You."?

Luke 16: 16The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the gospel of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it.

God spoke through the Law and the Prophets proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom of God, which everyone presses into, crowding in to take hold of it, but...
17But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for a single stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law.
for all the pressing and crowding, no one is able to enter, justifying ourselves before men.
15So He said to them, “You are the ones who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is prized among men is detestable before God.

the Law and the Prophets is God generally speaking to everyone...but the kingdom of God is within you. This is God specifically speaking to each individual, as Elihu said, "God speaks...and no one notices." Does this mean no one at all notices? or no one else notices except him that God speaks to?

That's a very interesting thought and one I hadn't fully considered. It's probably both. If the heavens declare the glory of God it would seem to mean some are unhearing because they are not equipped to hear but it's a good point if that which is spoken is only meant for a singular person that would explain as well.

As exampled in the law, the commandment is given "you shall love the Lord your God," the "you" is singular, as speaking to an individual, yet it is addressed to and applicable to everyone.

I was actually referring to what Elihu said concerning no one hearing what was said. If God was speaking in a still small voice the intended audience would be one and others would not hear.

And how much less would anyone notice if God speaks to us in a dream.
Some might imagine that if God spoke, it would be in a thunderous voice but, I'm not sure we should hope to hear Him speak that way to us...

Appreciate the insight
Thanks for the opportunity to share what I found as a point of interest:)

Jesus declared a "Comforter" would come, both Paul and Jesus speak of sufferings and David in Psalms

Psalms 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Psalms 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
ty both for your replies

Proverbs 1:23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the gospel is what God says to his children forever it’s the only place to hear it .

“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:35‬ ‭

when we receive the Holy Spirit he will always bring us back to Christs word spoken on earth

“These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:25-26‬ ‭KJV‬‬

because what he said is gods eternal judgement

“He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”
‭‭John‬ ‭12:48-50‬ ‭

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

the one and only way for us to hear what the father has said to his children is to fix upon his son and hear his word it’s eternal

“Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1:14-15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

to know what shod says to his children we have to hear the gospel of his only son

“Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; and declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: by whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:1, 3

when we hear the gospel we’re hearing the truth God sent Jesus to preach for salvation and redemption of his children

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”
‭‭John‬ ‭18:37‬ ‭

it’s the only place to hear the word of God spoken to his children THE TRUE God and his word is understood by hearing and believing the gospel

“And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:20‬ ‭

The only place to hear it is here

“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.”
‭‭John‬ ‭14:6-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

There’s no way to be a child of God if we reject the gospel if we accept and believe that is who we are

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:12-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

there’s only a narrow gate , only one shepherd , one way truth and life , one resurrection and life only 1 I Am only one messiah one lord faith and baptism

and it’s the simplicity that Jesus spoke forth and said believe me and live

the word hasn’t changed
