I don't really know where to start with this post. I guess I became I christian when I was 14 years old. I quickly became a member of a worship team, christian band and had an insanely amazing relationship with God. I always felt so connected with him. When I was 18 I began working as a youth consoler and i kept my relationship with God, but became consumed in my work. The more I worked (up to 90 hours of work a week with sleeping over shifts) I began to get burned out on life and fast. This is where I met my husband. He was fun energetic and most importantly was a christian. We would go rock climbing, canoeing, camping, hiking and just driving and exploring the world. about 2 years into our relationship after a few moments of weakness we were expecting parents (anyone out there dabbling in the pool and thinking your not gonna get caught news for you you will soon think twice) I almost died while pregnant I have a disease called hyperemesis gravidarum. I puked constantly i lived in a dark cool room for 8 months when I finally was induced after a blood clot, liver failure and losing 35 pounds. My husband was at the time only my fiance and he was not the most supprtive. he ditched me at the hospital to play video games with his friends, he would ignore my phone calls and if i got hospitalized (most the pregnancy) and asked him to stay by my side awhile at the hospital he complained. It was embarrassing to lay in a hospital bed pregnant and ask the nurses if it was okay to have him come finally get permission and be stood up.

a year and a half after my son was born I found out i was pregnant again. By now we were married. this wasn't planned. I was scared to death hyperemesis sufferers often times have it WORSE the second time around. Luckily though still having it I knew what i was up against and with med combos was able to just stay bed ridden. instead of support i got yelled at asked how i got pregnant (i was on mirena) he went off about all the people he was goin to sue and how this was serious. (which i totally got... i was no stupid, in fact i was crying when I told him) after this he was continually unsupportive. he'd sit and play video games while i'd try to take care of our two year old vomiting and supposed to be resting. I was admitted to the hospital 3 hours away in a larger city where I had a feeding tube put in because of my rapid weight loss. His mom came up and was cooking eggs after I asked her not to because the smell was too strong and would make me sick (hyper sensitivity to smells, noises is part of this disease) she informed me it wasn't and that i needed to take care of my husband. When i told him he told me i was exaggerating or taking it the wrong way.

after getting home from Sioux falls he would sit and play video games sometimes 20 hours in a day ignoring me if i asked him to go to the store to get me something to drink (sometimes i only had hour gaps or less that i even felt like drinking a specific thing. I would call my mom she'd get mad at him he'd get mad at me. but at that point I was told to do what i had to to try to gain weight and stay out of the hospital. I asked him to come to doctor appointments he showed up at one with a laptop and spent the whole time on the phone watching you tube videos (very distracting) when I had to be taken to the hospital from that appointment to get iv fluids he complained that he wanted to play games with his friends. Finally i made it through the pregnancy. I was induced. the day i was supposed to be induced i was suppose to be on bed rest but i had SOOO much to do i had laundry. I BEGGED him for some help he said he would I had no clothes for me to come home in because he refused to do laundry but instead played video games. We had a huge argument. I was so mad i just wanted help and we had to go to the hospital almost an hour away with nothing. I was so mad I wanted to have him removed from my hospital room. THEN we showed up at the hospital to find his mother waiting for us! I had not invited her and told her not to come til the next day in fact I had my mom come because I was gonna have to get iv's and stuff and i wanted to relax and she was gonna come and do my hair and watch a movie with me. but instead my mom had to go home and his mother who complained and told me how horrible i was the entire time was there.

If this wasn't enough to make for a bad situation when the nurse came in through the night to check me and the light was on. He even told the nurse to use a different light that he couldn't sleep.... seriously? I was up having contractions and he was gonna be like that??? in the morning I didn't hear the end of it. i had complaint after complaint and i had enough. because of hyperemesis we had already signed papers to get my tubes tied which i had surgery a few days after having my son i was in the hospital a total of 4 days. We finally went home i was on a no lift order and I had very bad bronchitis/ walking pneumonia but told them i'd sleep better at home with baby. My husbands mom came home with us... yay? to help with our 2 year old that she has back problems and couldn't lift anyways. at bed time my husband laid him down when he wouldn't go to bed he said "your turn" and i told him i couldn't lift him and would need some help he said "too bad figure it out" and his mom promptly said "yes he's very tire" I stared in aww. I had just had a baby and surgery and was taking care of the baby.... but i was supposed to go against drs orders so my husband could sit and play video games and take to weeks of fathers leave to what? after his mom left a few days later I started packing my bags I told him i was done I needed help and I was going to get it from my family. He had done nothing to help me. in fact while he was home he expected i cook and clean and take care of the kids and even took an extra week of leave to "help" me. It was more work.

After i packed my bags he apologized begged me to stay. I agreed to give him another chance. he got way better for awhile. didn't play games for months as they were a big problem. Though this was all in the past it still hurts me. I've forgiven him and don't bring this up in arguments and we don't talk about it anymore we worked through it, but he doesn't understand how much hurt all that caused. I tried to explain to him you can forgive someone and still be hurt by them. Espeicailly when they start the same cycle over again.

Most recently was fathers day. Yesterday i was amazing. I took him out for lunch made him steak for supper we spent the day at the park with the kids he got 2 presents beer from med and something for a game he likes to play from the boys. and I put a card with it. I was chewed out for 30 minutes and told me he "I don't know if your stupid or what you obviously don't know how to give someone a card" because I didn't sign it. We just thought it was cute and never really planed to put a card with it....but it wasn't good enough. After the kids went to bed he got mad because I didn't want to go with him immediately and be intimate. I didn't say i wasn't going to i simply said I was really tired after putting the kids down (late) because i took them to the park so he could work on school work. and he then informed me of how horrible i am and how i don't ever sleep with him or do what he wants... Recently this has been the norm. nothing is good enough, everything is complained about and I can do nothing just right.

Saturday we bought a new car and I did all the footwork but got yelled at because instead of waiting til monday to do licensing (literally no difference in what we were paying, its not a matter of when we will have the money, because we had it it was simply a difference in i got it done early) and he was mad because that was not the way he wanted it done.

as much as i love him its very hard to live with him, I am miserable ALL the time. He talks down to me, treats me poorly and is not the person he used to be. I tried to start a diet with him because we both said we needed to lose weight. he complains about food I make orders out and refuses to go for even walks with the kids with me. now i'm down almost 30 pounds and he's gained and is mad at me because I should be making better food for him. I don't know what to do at this point. i don't want to be treated this way. And i know ther is always two sides to every story. I just wish i knew his without him blaming me for everything (for example he talks down to me because I don't listen, he doesn't help me with housework because I don't do a good enough job else) i need advice I don't believe in divorce and we have tried counseling he just lies and makes it out to be that i want to leave him and he is the innocent victim that supports the family

This was painful to read, and it is impossible for me to relate to because I have never been married, so I'm not even going to pretend like I have any ounce of authority in telling you what to do. I can tell you a few universal truths and affirm you in your worth.

Firstly, I am so sorry that this man has not treated you the way that you deserve to be treated. You are a daughter of a High King (Christ), which makes you a princess, and you should be treated with no less respect. You are precious in the eyes of the Lord. He desires your beauty (Psalm 45:11), He wants to fulfill your desires (Psalm 145), and He has taken every measure possible to restore your righteousness (1 Corinthians 5:21) so that you may dwell with Him.

Secondly, I hope this does not come across as chastising or not understanding, but you need to consider his side as well. While I could easily read everything you wrote and feel mounds of sympathy for you (which I do), every problem has two sides. No man grows up and says to themself "some day I want to have a wife and two kids and sit around all day and play video games and get in fights all the time." He is not being fulfill. And yes, he can probably make blanket arguments about external issues that are unfulfilling, like not being intimate, but there are deeper issues here. What would cause him to want to play video games all the time? Perhaps in video games he can escape pressures he does not feel adequate to solve (your illness?) and he can feel accomplished (completing levels, gaining high scores). Often times we escape to these things (playing video games, watching television, getting really obsessed with a hobby) that help us get our mind off of the big issues we aren't willing to tackle in the moment, things we want to avoid (bills, marriage problems, work deadlines, projects around the house). If we have a high probability of failure (or we think we do because we have low self-esteem), then often times we run from the problem (like Jonah ran to Tarshish).

So lastly, I really want to encourage you to be a beacon of love to your husband. Christ new from before time began that Judas would betray Him, and yet He loved him all the same and let him walk by His side up until the day of betrayal. Your husband is a sinner just like you. These problems aren't going to go away just by him "getting his act together". He needs encouragement to do what's right, and you need to search your heart as well. From what you say, it sounds like he horribly mistreats you, but from his perspective, he may feel horribly mistreated as well. These issues can only be resolved with the healing power of Christ and open, honest, encouraging conversation between you two. Neither person is the "bad guy". All the relational conflict in my life has only been resolved when I would openly discuss things in a positive way. If I was angry in the moment, it only made problems worse. I would have to tell the other person "I am really hurt by what happened, but I know if I talk about it right now I won't be speaking righteously to you. Let's talk about this later."

I had a horrible relationship with my father for a period of my life and what helped me was reading through the book of Ephesians and the book of James. When I was acting in a righteous manner, always loving my father and showing him what righteousness looks like, he followed my example. He stopped speaking bitterly towards me and we began to communicate effectively. I will definitely be praying for you and I hope that anything I said was even remotely helpful.

Wow, this does sound like a tough situation! I'd recommend continuing counseling...it at least keeps you talking.

Also, you'll need to be the adult here and calmly, logically approach him with 'conditions' of living together as a family. Be sure to be fair. If he doesn't agree to it, then I'd suggest a time apart...you are not his mother.

You both need to speak to each other in a respectful manner. And learn to 'fight fair' - for example don't bring other issues into an argument. Stick to the main topic; and don't call each other names; don't yell. James Dobson's "Focus on the Family" has resources that can help couples work through problems.

Is he bringing in an income? He should be the main financial supporter of the family.
Is he spending quality time with you and the children? Playing video games sounds like an addiction/escape for him.
Is he helping you with physical things that you need help with?

Congratulations on losing weight! It can be a trial when the husband isn't interested in losing weight but the wife is! If the husband is working a 40 hr a week job, I do think it's fair for the wife to prepare dinner for the family (and do laundry, housecleaning, shopping), unless she's working too; then the duties need to be divided up. In the past, I've kept a salad mix in the refrigerator for me while fixing meat and potatoes for my husband and children. There are ways to get around the conflict. Slowly cut down on the fatty and high sugar items...maybe he won't notice after awhile :). Lean Cuisine makes some good low calorie meals that you can zap in the microwave for yourself. The hard part will be having yummy stuff in the kitchen that you have to resist. One thing that helps me is to count calories. To lose weight I've had to restrict my daily calorie intake to 1200 calories. I list everything I eat and keep track of how many calories I take in everyday. It's not exact but it helps a lot. The internet can help find calorie contents of foods.

I know it's hard with also having two small children but it's crucial that you two try to get your relationship on an even keel. When you are both calm, try sitting down and making a list of duties-who does what and when.

Also, are you attending church regularly? You can find support there. A close relationship with Christ at this hard time in your life would be very rewarding. Most churches have a nursery which is nice for moms who need a break.

I'll be praying for you and your husband. You have some things to work out, but through Christ anything is possible :)

that sounds horrible. and i completely understand why you would stay with him. but i grew up in a family where if someone were to EVER even THINK about treating me like that they'd think again the next time they did it.

to tell the truth i'd leave him. I mean idk what kind of Job or schooling you have and what kind of support. but if you're parents or friends would take you in a help then i'd leave.

not only is he making your life WAY harder then it should be. Hes teaching your children that THIS is how you act and THIS is how life should be. I would HATE to think that my baby is going to grow up to treat his wife they way i'm being treated when I could have done something about it.

I'm not saying divorce (unless of course he has cheated on you) but separation sounds like a good idea.

I can't put much weight to what i'm saying cause i don't know your whole situation and i can't begin to imagine being in that situation but thats the steps i would take.

Well, you are in an emotionally abusive situation. You are being abused, quite simply. I know this isn't a popular answer here, but anytime i hear of a woman being abused i always say the same thing. Get out. Get away. Very few abusers ever change. If he isn't willing to own up to his abuse counseling for him will be useless. Also most verbal/emotional abuse leads to physical abuse over time.
I'm sure many will disagree with me, save your arguments, you won't change my mind and i didn't post this to defend my position, so i won't be responding.

Been in emotionally abusive situations with guys including my dad and seeing my moms relationship with my dad and annother relationship she got into agree with annother guy ,(The guy married someone else and it turned into serious physical violence ive seen the paterns and it doesnt change it keeps going back to control and emotional abuse it made my mom miserable and me miserable , even now when i see the same type of behaviour in guys who i get to know it freeks me out and i totally change how i am it messes with my head and i end up acting and feeling like the victim or just gettin angry in the end..
That kind of relationship does alot of damage i say take some space, your the victim and you need to get the strength to say your worth more than this because if your not firm, the pattern will keep repeating itself no mater how many times he says sorry , or acts the victim and you beleive its your fault , and you will carry on beign miserable and resent him

He sounds more like a whiny child than a man or a husband...id vote to leave him...sounds like even by yourself things would be easier, though he certainly doesnt sound like the type to pay child support so i wouldnt plan on that

Think of this Mommyof2,

Do you want your sons to grow up like him? He is showing them a terrible example of what a man should be. They watch everything he does, and YOU put up with it! They will start to think that it is okay to treat women the way he does. Thus continuing the cycle of what is going on now.

You need to get him away from your boys. Divorce is a terrible option and the Lord hates it. But he does know that when it comes to abuse of ANY form, there is exception to it. You love him, yes... but he obviously does not love you. He may say "Oh, I do! Stay!" But he doesn't. He loves himself more then he loves you. I was in a relationship like this, you need to separate yourself from him. Let him realize that you deserve better than this.

I will be praying for you. That God will give you the strength to do what you need.

I apologize for not responding until now. I actually just started a new job working as a receptionist for a great company. I honestly have every means in the world to leave my husband. I've been offered numerous places to stay and what not, and for those that say I "Put up with it" i guess i have to say I don't. I tell him its unacceptable thats where the fights start. I will be very honest I have an apartment looked at and many other options looked at at this point. i am saving money. I am not doing this behind his back and he knows full well that I am unahppy, i feel neglected. I have pretty much told him at this point its up to him. He won't take any initiative when it comes to counseling he blames me for everything when we do go so its to the point he needs to figure out how to take responsiblity for his crap. put the games down or know that I am not puting up with it.

well if you have everything ready then MOVE. DO IT. cause sitting there telling him but staying by him isn't going to work. it hasn't been working and if he just keeps fighting you then he'll keep fighting you until the end. i wouldn't want to come home to that kind of stress everyday.
