Some 46.2% of the population of England and Wales described themselves as Christian on the day of the 2021 census, down from 59.3% a decade earlier. The Muslim population grew from 4.9% to 6.5% of the population, while 1.7% identified as Hindu, up from 1.5%.
More than 1 in 3 people — 37% — said they had no religion, up from 25% in 2011.
The other parts of the U.K., Scotland and Northern Ireland, report their census results separately.

Secularism campaigners said the shift should trigger a rethink of the way religion is entrenched in British society. The U.K. has state-funded Church of England schools, Anglican bishops sit in Parliament’s upper chamber, and the monarch is “defender of the faith” and supreme governor of the church.
Andrew Copson, chief executive of the charity Humanists U.K., said “the dramatic growth of the non-religious” had made the U.K. “almost certainly one of the least religious countries on Earth.”
“One of the most striking things about these results is how at odds the population is from the state itself,” he said. “No state in Europe has such a religious set-up as we do in terms of law and public policy, while at the same time having such a non-religious population.”
Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell, one of the most senior clerics in the Church of England, said the data was “not a great surprise,” but was a challenge to Christians to work harder to promote their faith.
“We have left behind the era when many people almost automatically identified as Christian, but other surveys consistently show how the same people still seek spiritual truth and wisdom and a set of values to live by,” he said.
Almost 82% of people in England and Wales identified as white in the census, down from 86% in 2011. Some 9% said they were Asian, 4% Black and 3% from “mixed or multiple” ethnic backgrounds, while 2% identified with another ethnic group.

Unfortunately, the 'Falling Away From Christianity' is prevalent throughout Europe and 'First World Economic' countries.
The falling away is led by the youth who no longer profess any religious faith. When you lose the youth, you'll lose their progeny also, you'll lose the future of Christianity in the world.
This trend is not surprising to me. In the rich countries, people (especially the youth) have become satisfied with the materialistic things of the world and have no need for God, Christ, nor religion.
Not surprising to me as Jesus asked, "Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" ( Luke 18:8) This sad query by Jesus seems to suggest that true Christian faith could almost disappear from the earth before He returns.

I dont think the anglican church was really where God was at in the first place
I mean its pretty and all but most people dont really want to give all their incomes to pay for a white elephant when they can gather for worship anywhere and in their own homes.
not saying all anglican churches are like that but most of them are in old fancy church buildings that need a lot of upkeep. In england they call it 'high church'

Like the Anglican Church, many Christian denominations are leaving Christianity behind for the sake of political correctness. They have left behind the authority of Christ and the Scriptures.
People will say on those surveys they re not religious because in the past church of england (CoE) just meant everyone living in england. You belonged whether you actually believed or not lol.
You had a monarch who said they were head of the church whether you wanted it or not, you didnt have a say. And you paid your taxes to fund said monarch and their five palaces.

The rest adopted the name and went along with the morality but really never believed.
That's not to say that the morality in a society didn't have benefits and caused the society to prosper. Far be it for me to say otherwise.
But just like this site, we have most all claiming Christ but very very few having evidence in the substance of their posts....including those who quote scriptures.
