You don't understand Calvinism. I'm not a Calvinist but people who use the term use it as a pejorative and misrepresent its claims.
One can believe God answers prayers and they do affect the heart of God and also believe He answers according to His will.
Your idea of God is too small. That's why you believe it can only be one or the other and not both.
My view of God is big, large, great. God is reachable, touchable with our prayers. God can intercede on our behalf and cause things to happen that would have never happened in the natural course of human history, but because we cried out to him, he made a way. That’s the great, loving, full of grace and mercy God that I know.

Your view is called arminian, which denys the Glory of God !

So what if it does ? Its the Truth !
Scripture never defines God as being sovereign the way a Calvinist defines the word sovereign.

Btw, I am neither a Calvinsist or Arminian. Deny the glory of God? Nahhh....my God is glorious. My God died on the cross for the sins of everyone. That's a glorious God!

That's fair enough. It would have been more accurate to say that in this particular matter perhaps you haven't considered all the possibilities.

Have you? Do you believe God can declare something to take place and then change his mind based upon man's response to his word?

He can, He has, and no doubt He will continue to. But history is about Christ. And history is under divine control and following a divine timetable as well.
Like I said, God can do all things. He can purpose great and mighty things as well as affectionately be moved by the longings of His people.
I wasn't being critical of you or your post. I just wanted to try to enlarge your vision of God that you might enjoy Him more.

Totally agree with you, but Calvin's view of sovereignty is different.

Sure it does, you just fail to understand scripture, and yes whenever one brings up calvinism, they are arminian . If your god died on the cross to save everyone, he is a failure, because everyone isnt going to be saved. The Christ I believe in, died only for His Sheep, not the goats, and every Sheep He died for shall be saved. His Death for them ensured that Heb 9:12

Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

Does God's will always occur? Do you sin? Is it God's will that you sin?

Does every believer always give thanks? Of course not, but it is God's will for those in Christ.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Here someone of reformed belief would say there is a prescriptive will and a permissive will. I bring these up so you will have a better understanding of what Calvinists actually believe.
You may not agree with the substance of the argument, but it will give you greater insight to what traditional reformed thought actually entails.

One should Pray the Lord's Prayer at least noce every day, if not even more often. Every time we pray it, and say: "Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done", we are praying for the Salvation of Souls, including our own; for those already justified, that they may persevere, for those who are fallen from Christ by apostasy that they may return, and for those who don't know Christ, that they may turn to Him, repent of their sins, and be washed from them.

May God's Will be done in all our lives. But though God's Will is that we be saved, only those who sincerely say to God: "Thy will be done [in my life]" and surrender to His Will by accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior will be saved. God wants everyone to be saved, but they have to be willing to, as God doesn't force His Love on anyone. Whoever is not willing to be saved cannot be. Man must want to be saved too, must find out what God requires for us to do to be saved, and then obey it.

God Bless.

Acts 16:31 "They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household. 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. 33 At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized. 34 The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household.”

Here we say, as the Lord said: "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved" (Mark 16:16)

He didn't say, "50% [or whatever percentage] of you can be saved if you believe and are baptized. The rest can never be saved, even if you believe and are baptized, because I have you Predestined you to Damnation without your own choice/fault".

So you good with your god being a failure, wishing and desiring and willing that he cant have.

The God I serve Job 23:13

13 But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.
