Personal prophecy is big these days. A so-called prophet gives you a prophecy that he or she claims is directly from the Lord and meant specifically for you. Does this have any authority in scripture or are these "prophets" little more than psychic advisers? Have you ever been given a personal prophecy? What happened as a result? If not, how would you feel or react is someone tried to give you a personal prophecy?

I think it is highly abused but real. Your holy spirit will bear witness if it's true and it will be encouraging as the scriptures say. Mostly I think false prophets deal in selfish pride. Too many people certify prophets based on itchy ears of wealth. They always prophesy your going to get money. I've seen false prophets say a marriage would prosper and didn't know they were living in fornication. He thought they were married. I've seen false prophets prophesy riches but my holy spirit said no.

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:11‬ ‭

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.”
‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭

prophets seem to speak to groups of people one among many like as Moses was for the people one guy who has a close relationship with God who talks with God , and then speaks to the people telling them what God said

christians receive Gods spirit and have Jesus spirit living inside of them with thier own spirit they don’t need another person to speak to him for them they have the one mediator between God and man who already spoke Gods word of prophecy to them in the gospel

and who mediated a relationship between themselves and God

What I’m trying to say is the way of one prophet above the people and then he dies and another is raised up over the people that’s all Gone Jesus is the one prophet who was raised up for all time and he spoke the gospel to all people inviting belief of that prophetic word of guidance and leadership

if we need another person to talk to God for us then we’re missing tune with the Holy Ghost the Holy Ghost is Gods real presence with a believer we don’t then need me one to talk to God and tell us anything God will speak tonus through his word that we believe

Most of that is so general any one can fit it to ones self because they choose to. Not unlike horoscopes . Most of what i have seen over the years of being in the charismatic or Pentecostal camps is phony. I do not try and find nice words because i feel the practice is a abrasion to The Holy Spirit. A game people play to feel important or powerful.

2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

Personal prophecy ?

Would that be a direct prophecy from an individual to an individual ?.

But wait what happens if a Christian is decieved and delivers a prophecy to an individual by mistake delivered by satan , should the lord not correct that for him and give him the correct prophecy.

I didn't start this thread for the purpose of using scripture to prove personal prophecy isn't valid; I want to hear what scriptures people turn to as validation for the practice.

well ok friend but why ask such a question when there is no scripture that says Prochecy is never from one indivual to just another indivudual

If there is no scripture that says prophecy is never just for one individual to another then how can we find out, this must be true ?.

There is scripture in the bible of prochecies being spoken From one indivudual to another indivudual which benefited a whole nation afterwards.

In the OT personal prophecies were given; Elijah to the widow woman so her flour and oil would not run out, to Naaman to dunk himself in the river Jordan. As for it happening today; i guess it could if God saw fit. I However dont see why when we have all we need in the scripture.

Yes, you're right; there are examples found in the scriptures. But how much of that is descriptive and how much is prescriptive? I'm just wondering if there's enough clear teaching in the New Testament to establish a sound doctrinal basis for the practice today. I agree it could happen, but does it, really?

I think it is descriptive and not prescriptive at all

Agabus gave a personal prophecy to Paul.

10 And as we stayed many days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. 11 When he had come to us, he took Paul’s belt, bound his own hands and feet, and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’ ”

I don't think that there's any reason to think that it would happen, or the there's any reason for it to happen. We have the scriptures and they give us all the information we need.

Paul wrote this to Timothy:

18 This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 19 having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck, 20 of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.
