1 John 2:19 says, "They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us." According to this passage, people who profess to know Jesus but later deny Him were never truly saved. Many who point to this passage as proof that a Christian can lose salvation, doesn't understand what it is saying. What about Christians who continue to live in unrepented sin? What about the Christian who died because of the sin he was living? Do these people lose their salvation? The simple truth: When a person accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, believing in who He is and what He done........THEY ARE SAVED. Romans 5:8, "While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

Hebrews 10:26-27 "For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgement and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries." When answering the question concerning losing one's salvation, we have to look at this passage carefully. We should take the overall context of the passage, along with the entire New Testament concerning salvation, and make interpretations that is consistent with ALL of God's Word. In other words: We never stop at just one passage of scripture when studying the Bible. First, read in the beginning of Hebrews Chapter 10. In verse 4 it is clear that Jews were attempting to go back to the Old Testament laws, sacrificing "bulls and goats" as a way to get forgiveness of sins. The author is saying in v. 26 "that we have received the knowledge of the truth", therefore there is no need for animal sacrifices. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. The perfect sacrifice.

Romans 5:1 "Justified by faith I have peace." There are too many Christians today that are missing out of a great joy because they allow tension and doubt to creep in over the fear of losing one's salvation.

A license to sin
Those who believe a "salvation lost" doctrine, make the claim that if you can't lose it, then that gives everyone a license to sin. A Christian's salvation is not based on the "good works" that we do or the goodness of our hearts. Remember Jesus said no one is good, but God. Throughout the Bible, there are warnings against living in sin. If a person is truly a believer in Christ, then they will have a new and deeper desire to please God. And when we do sin, we have a deeper conviction of wanting to stop and do better. We are not perfect. We are fallible human beings and we do fail to meet God's glorious standards. God in His Word makes a promise in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

John 10:27-29 "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me..........they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my Father's hand." This should bring peace to everyone who comes to Jesus that nothing will take away our salvation.

Romans 8:33-39 "who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect?.........who shall separate us from the love of Christ?" Nothing separates us from our Savior.

John 6:37 "all that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." Salvation is by grace and grace is favor, thus salvation is a gift.

The uncertainty of a Christian's salvation can lead to an unfulfilled life. A life filled with anxiety and sometimes depression that keeps them from serving our Lord to the best of their abilities. It is normal for a Christian to enter a period of time in their life where doubt creeps in. It normal for a Christian to let sin slip through leaving us to wonder if God has forgotten us. Its normal if a Christian sometimes feel like sin is overwhelming them, that they "back slide" in moments of time. Its normal for Christians in certain moments of time to feel like they are not growing spiritually. Our adversary wants us to feel this way and think that its not normal. Satan understands that when Christians doubt their salvation for too long or too often, it will dilute our effectiveness for serving our Heavenly Father.

Hebrews 6:4-6 "for it is impossible for those who were once enlightened and have tasted of the Heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame." The author is speaking to the unsaved who have heard the truth, but is hesitant to embrace Jesus as Savior. These unbelievers were at the best possible point for repentance......full knowledge. To fall back at this point would be fatal.

Affirmations
1. We are not saved because we are good, nor are we lost because we are bad.
2. Jesus said if we believe in Him, we will NEVER perish.
3. God's Word says, "we all fall short," thus the reason for Jesus' death.
4. Jesus never said a true Chrisitan can lose salvation.
5. We are saved through "faith" and not by "good works", therefore the sins that Christians struggle with daily is irrelevant concerning salvation.
6. Ephesians 1:13 and Ephesians 4:30 These verses states that when we believe and accept the truth our salvation is "sealed".

If scripture taught salvation could be lost, wouldn't we see passages throughout the Bible showing us how to regain it back? God's Word does not speak of a Christian losing their salvation, but it does speak of bringing judgement to believers who have "fallen away" from obedience. They are stilled saved by the blood of Christ.
Matthew 7:21-23 KJV
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Yes, you can lose your salvation and many do!

Jesus never knew these many people in Matthew 7:22-23 which means they were never saved.

Yes, and verse 11-13 continue...

"And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."

I already have been given eternal life.
Why this life is not based upon any analogies or behavior or emotions works of self righteousness. That's true of you and anyone else too, IF the Object of their faith is the Lord. It's based upon the Son. Therefore it's recorded here that I may know, that goes for all of us who trusted Jesus 100% . When someone says they can lose it, it shows that they have partly trusted self rather than the Lord. That's why the can never be sure. They already violated the Scriptures, their consciences, the laws of God. I thank God that it's a matter of record and we don't have to doubt and wonder if we were faithful until death. Those are great promises He's given believers in His Son, isn't it?

Eternal life is about knowing God...John 17:3...not about where we exist.
John 17:3 - And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent (which is an intimate, experiential knowledge, found only in a relationship). The term "know" implies intimate, experiential knowledge, through a relationship with Him and not merely theoretical knowledge.

This question brings to mind the classic Monty Python film, Life of Brian.

Some may remember the scene.

''Crucified!''
''Set free!''
''Crucified!''
''Set free!''
''Really?''
''No, just kidding, crucified!''

'''Eternally Saved!"
''Really?"
''No, just kidding!''

Look at what they offered as reasons to be accepted...they were all works. There is no suggestion that they didn't do these till the end.
The works that last are those done by the Spirit...love, peace, joy, etc. These will endure to the end because Philippians 1:6...he who has begun a good work in us, will continue it until the day of Jesus Christ.

John 17:2-3~ You granted Him authority over all people, so that He may give eternal life to all those You
have given Him. Now this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, Whom You have sent.

Yes there was a time when I totally turned to a life of sin... and stopped going to church too..this all happened many years ago and my life was far from God.I was still aware of God and still prayed yet my lifestyle was totally sinful..ie..living like the would does..and I wasn't bothered enough to stop that life style. One night driving home with drugs in my car I should of collided with another car in front but "miraculously" didn't.I knew this was a warning from God to repent and leave that sinful life style...?or else I would perish.
I knew that if I died In that moment i wouldn't go to heaven for sure.Praise God my family were praying for me for months and i came back to God and changed my life around with his help...it was a process.
So from my experience yet it is possible to loose your salvation in that sense. However its extremely hard to loose it if you have a genuine desire for God yet are struggling with certain sins in ones life. However sometimes certain areas of your life that haven't been dealt with can actual shipwreck ones life...
Ultimately it's only God who can make a true assessment of a person's life before him.Remember in the book of revelation jesus spoke to the 7 churches and how they were perceived by others and how they saw themselves wasn't the same as how jesus saw them.
Life is a battle but God's willing to help us overcome the things that make us stumble heavily.I guess some people we see their lives turn the other way from the lord..yet we never always see how their life ends...for some I am sure at some point there's a repentance before they die.For some maybe not.
I think I misspoke or perhaps maybe you misinterpreted what I was trying to say, respectfully.

I don't believe you would have gone to hell in that sinful phase of your life. You said yourself you still prayed and believed and aware of God (which I presume you meant His death and resurrection for your life), so to me, that sounds like a repentive man, and therefore still saved.

One thing you said that I do believe is that God was trying to wake you up by saving you from that car crash. I've had many experiences like that. And instead of going to hell like you thought, I believe your judgment would have been your earthly bodily death--not eternal death.

Many true born again Christians will be and have been judged in this way. They surely suffered loss or reward and their early earthly death, but they themselves were saved "even though only as one escaping through the flames ".

As the poster above me put it, I don't believe in yo-yo salvation. I dont think that's Biblical. What I alluded to in my first post was those who profess faith but never - since that moment - never change. That marks a full life of sin. Those kind of "salvations" I question. Was there repentance from such people? Who could know? They never showed it.

Can a Christian lose salvation?

NO! In Christ, Salvation is FINISHED.

However, all that are saved are NOT the Bride. They are saved and in His Kingdom but are not His Bride.

The 7 Letters to the 7 Churches is Jesus calling out His Bride from all Believers….His Bride MUST overcome just as He did and lay her life down… like we saw Peter and Paul do. Overcoming has NOTHING to do with God’s Gift of Salvation, overcoming pertains to His Bride.

Just focus on knowing and loving God as FIRST LOVE, there’s no condemnation in Christ… stop all the critical judgment, instead focus on LOVE…God always FIRST.(y)

I'm curious what scriptures say that not all the saved are the bride?

There’s a difference between the “elect lady” and “believers.” ALL are believers and SAVED. Yet, not all are the “elect.”

There’s the bride and the virgins, the guests, the servants…not all are His Bride.

Search the scriptures.., “elect” and “bride” and “guests” and “servants” and “virgins” and “friends of the Bridegroom”..,,

Like United States Navy Seals are part of the Navy but not all Navy are Navy Seals.

Navy Seals have to overcome MUCH MORE…. Much More is required of them… if they want to be Navy Seals.

Those 7 Letters to the 7 Churches is Jesus Christ calling for His Bride…

I mean really! Most of these are Christian preachers that have been baptized that have spoken about God all their life and yet Jesus did not know them
why?

The point is, I believe no matter what reason they did not make it to heaven they probably thought they were saved. So if you think you are saved that does that mean you are saved?
By logic here it seems fine.

Because their confidence was in their works and not His. Read why they said they should be accepted...prophesy, casting, works. They noticeably didn't say .because You have made us acceptable.

I'm sure they did believe they were saved. But they weren't, for the reasons stipulated.
And please forgive my intrusion. My only intentions were to inform and edify.

Ponder for a moment…. what does it take for you to “know” someone?

What does it take for Jesus Christ to “know” someone?

We can only “trust” someone we “know.”

Who do you hand your house key to and go on vacation?

Jesus wants to give us A LOT…. Can He trust us with His Kingdom?
