The confusion, the error occurs, when people say, we are saved by grace and works.
The question is.... if salvation is by grace, nothing we can do, then why doesn't God save eceryone?

Would believing be a type of works, mental works, would practicing faith be a type of works that we practice to gain salvation?

Is there a line between what those that are saved do and those that are not saved fail to do?

Do we do anything to be saved? Why are most people not saved, what seperayes the saved from the unsaved?

1, Faith in Jesus
But don't overlook the other bible verses that we are told.
Mat 10:22 .....but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
Mat 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Act 2:21 .....that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Act 16:30-31.....Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

1Co 15:2-3 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.

1Ti 2:4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

It is not enough to make a profession of faith in Christ and have our names registered on the church roll. “He that keepeth His commandments dwelleth in Him, and He in him. And hereby we know that He abideth in us, by the Spirit which He hath given us.” “Hereby we do know that we know Him if we keep His commandments.” 1 John 3:24; 1 John 2:3. This is the genuine evidence of conversion. Whatever our profession, it amounts to nothing unless Christ is revealed in works of righteousness.

Thanks for your questions TMS.

You asked.

"if salvation is by grace, nothing we can do, then why doesn't God save eceryone?"

Salvation is by the grace of God, there is no "if" about it.

Here read the following verses and look for the word, "grace"?

Romans 3:24
Being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus.

Romans 4:16
For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants.

Romans 5:2
Through whom we also have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand.

Romans 5:15
Much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many.

Romans 5:17
The abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

Never a conditional statement, 'if', that is the gospel and it was always by grace!

God has drawn a line in the sand.

Anyone who calls on the name of Jesus is saved. That is why not everyone is saved by grace.

Would believing be a type of work?

Two words are common in the New Testament, faith and works.

Faith is not a legal work or a good work.

Faith generates works.

The only way to be saved is through believing in Jesus. This is where we stop. That is the fundamental doctrine of Christianity.

Now for your question which is a secondary doctrine. Your question above, relates to the duties a spirit filled person should embark on. You cannot receive the Holy Spirit until you believe in Jesus. You cannot bear fruit without the Holy Spirit.

One must believe first to be able to obey commandments, yet they all still transgress.

One is saved when they believe in Jesus.

Anyone who calls on the name of Jesus is saved, no ifs or buts about that.

You must maintain that separation between God's divine work, your salvation, and your miniscule attempt at your own works.

It is utter blasphemy to mention your works in the same breath as Christ's works!

Your struggling to understand the text and I cannot see why?

Salvation is a gift and is not a reward for your hard work.

Salvation is by grace and not from yourself.

The only way to receive salvation is by grace from first to last.

Jesus reconciled you to His Father and you played no part in that.

What separates the saved from the unsaved? JESUS!!!!

You must endure in your faith until the end. Because you cannot be saved, if you let go of Jesus.

The gospel is Jesus first and Jesus last.

I have not overlooked anything.

This should put a stop to your attempt to undermine the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Romans 11:6
But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, since otherwise grace is no longer grace.

Just curious if anyone observes the Sabbath. It seems like some people do and some people don’t, citing a variety of reasons.

Are there any clear commands to observe a Sabbath rest on the seventh day of the week? Which verses? I ask because I see there are clear commands to observe some of the 10 commandments, but I can’t find anything about Jesus or one of the apostles commanding anyone to keep the Sabbath.

Personally I don’t observe Sabbath day of rest as of right now, but I’ve considered it and I’m not opposed to it.

Also, if you keep the Sabbath, what do you do and don’t do on your Sabbath day of rest?
The Sabbath is a blessing from the Lord and can be "observed" in many ways. It is a "day" of rest where we bask ourselves in the grace and love of Jesus Christ.

The grace/works concept is an interesting dichotomy to wrestle with. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus no doubt, yet "works" are a natural byproduct of the fruit manifested by the Spirit. If we are in Christ (i.e. grace), good results will manifest themselves by the Holy Spirit that dwells within us.

Yes it is interesting the distinction between the work of God and the work of man.

Salvation by grace as a gift in and through Jesus Christ only.

And the alternative gospel.

The alternative gospel that states, what can I do to contribute to that free gift. My works plus the work of Jesus will save.

One is heresy and the other is the divine gospel.

Can you distinguish between them?

Just wanted to add something on this point as I think you all are missing one crucial point... Faith. That is to say that God doesn't save "everyone" simply because not everyone has faith, or even a belief in God (denial).

Eph. 2:8-9 (ESV) For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

For sure. My works are vanity at best. The fruits of the Spirit are a gift from God. Pure grace!

I am simply a temple for the Lord to use as He best sees fit!

If we must keep the Sabbath, there is no logical reason why we mustn't also keep circumcision. Circumcision was a higher law than the Sabbath. Galatians explains why we don't need to keep any of the law - it is fulfilled in Christ. It focuses on circumcision, because circumcision was an even more fundamental law than the Sabbath.

I'm not saying circumcision is bad, or keeping the Sabbath is bad. What is bad is feeling that we are obligated to do these, when Christ has fulfilled the law already. We can't add anything to what He has already done. We are saved by grace alone.

Colossians 2:11 - 17
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
To me the ten commandments seem transcendent because of the fact God wrote them with His own finger in the tables of stone, then promises to write His "laws" in our hearts under the new covenant. I used to be confused as to if this means 1: all the laws Moses wrote in the torah or 2: the Ten Commandments. Now I think I'm pretty convinced it's the latter. He wrote them once in stone and now in our hearts.

I do realize that people were circumcised before the written law, but I guess I'd say Paul makes it pretty clear what that is for us now.

Deuteronomy 30:6 And the Lord thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.

Matthew 22: 36 - 40
Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
