Yes, I believe when people say that they believe every word of the bible (out of sincerity), they do not understand what they are really saying. When it comes down to it, most believers today do not know that there are many differences between the KJV and the new versions.
Agreed!

Yes, the Bible is completely true altogether. However, there are a lot of cases where people say they understand what the Bible is saying and it is not saying that. This is often not because they are dishonest but because they genuinely misunderstand what scripture is saying. Obviously, a person who is not a born again believer will often misunderstand because God has not opened that person up to receive truth in the same way as a true believer. Aside from that, one of the biggest reasons for failure among Christians to understand the Bible is when people fail to realize that although the Bible is 100% true, it is also written by God in parable form. Thus, the truth is hidden or a mystery until the parable is interpreted. Psalm 78 tells us: "Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable ". God's law mentioned here is the Bible. It is the words of his mouth. Notice God calls the Bible, the words of his mouth, a parable. The rules of interpreting a parable are shown in Mark 4. In that chapter we see that a surface text or a surface story has an interpreted meaning, which is the real meaning. For example, thorns in a story might not be talking about the thorns on a tree or bush as much as about "such as hear the word, And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. " When the Bible mentions a rock, it might really mean Jesus since he is the rock. A sword might really mean the word of God. Grain might really mean persons. And so forth. Do you believe that the Bible is 100 percent true? Good for you. But do you also believe God himself when he says that his word is a parable?

"But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples."

Very wise words. Most of spiritual Israel has been blinded to the truth, because of their disobedience in turning to worship idols, and are teaching and preaching false doctrines.

Only the remnant of spiritual Israel has been revealed the truth (Zeph 3:11-13).

Hi, I'm new here and upon reading this question, I find the question a bit misleading, in that depending on what one may believe the Bible is teaching may not be what another believes it is teaching, as well as what the Spirit of God reveals to one, the Spirit of God may not reveal to another, if not simply because the one may not be ready to accept what the Spirit wants to reveal. Personally I leave what I believe to what the Spirit reveals to me regardless to what another tells me is pretty clear or not, while trying to stay open to hearing God when another's teaching convicts my Spirit to accept another's teaching, whether fully or in part. As well, as for what translation one prefers, Isaiah 55: 8 reveals that God's thoughts are not our thoughts, and His ways not our ways. The sin of man has corrupted even our language and I suspect that even had man not sinned, God would still be needing to reveal His thoughts to us. So as for any translation to be without the fullness of God's thoughts seems inevitable and in part why John 14: 26 records Jesus saying that it was good that He left so that He could send the Spirit to teach us all things. So for me it isn't the translation that is as important as it is our relationship with God and the time we are in the Spirit with God so that we are able to be taught. And since it is the Spirit of the Lord that convicts, perhaps simply stating that you believe in as certain manner while sharing that leaves us open to hearing the Spirit if we still need to hear more on any given belief, rather than coming off so strong that we offend others.
I like this idea because I believe that we all need the Holy Spirit to understand Scripture.
The thing is, two people will often times put forth what they believe, and yet their beliefs could be polar opposites. And both parties will claim that their inspiration is from the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, both will provide Scripture(s) to support their positions.

I often wonder, what is going on that two, seemingly passionate people, striving to follow the Lord, can be in such disagreement?
I guess that several things could be going on:

1. one is wrong, and the other is correct.
2. both are wrong.
3. both are right and are dealing with a paradox... a Divine mystery.

So, what can we do?
Sometimes, the situation is pretty clear cut as there are some well-known schools of thought that have been dealt with as false... JW's, Mormonism, a lot of Rom. Catholic doctrine. But what about the rest?
In my opinion, finding good sources of teaching ministries is crucial for us. Scripture tells us that God has gifted some, through the Holy Spirit, to be teachers/preachers. And we can know them by their "fruits". I look for people that teach on the Bible, book by book.
They should be relatively, well regarded, consistent, and articulate... speaking to both people who are new to the Faith, as well as the more mature. And the plain, exposition of God's Word is always interesting at all learning levels.

One of the biggest problems is the bible is written in 3 languages, Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic. People don't take the time to look at what terms and words mean in their original language. They also don't look at context. They read it in english and leave it at that.
Amen to that.

As as been stated above...

Each person who reads the Bible does so with eisogesis instead of exegesis. IOW their mind is made up and they slice and dice the scriptures to provide proof of their own beliefs.

And it's completely wrong to do so.

Hermeneutics is the blend of arts and sciences deciphering what the Bible has to tell us.
Since, for whatever reason, Christians tend to absolutely suck at sciences the misinterpretation rates are very high. And because those few who are good at understanding the contexts are very loathe to speak ill of others (for very solid reasons) nobody is seriously challenged in their false doctrines.

Case in point is this "born again" nonsense that has been repeated ad nauseum for over 50 years now as a marketing campaign to combat Calvinism and Catholicism. The logic of proper Hermeneutics is dismissed by giants in the field for what has been parroted.
That doesn't mean that the proper Hermeneutics is unavailable...far from it. But it goes ignored and dismissed and "cut out" in favor of illogical and emotional arguments to say something that has no real effect on decisions in our daily lives.

Poor Hermeneutics has been used to license all sorts of sinful behaviors such as segregation, slavery, murder of innocents, adultery, and wars. (Currently every form of sexual perversion is being licensed) Paul predicted it perfectly in 2Timothy.
It's not like this is new stuff either. The Reformation was the relief and instigator of a whole new set of poor Hermeneutics. Martin Luther wasn't the first to discover the scriptures...just the first that was given gravitas and granted a knowledgable audience. Martin Luther wasn't making idle false accusations either about concubine swapping being more important than Theological discussions among the hierarchy of the church.

In the end....
What does someone else's sin matter? It's all theirs. You can mention it when asked but ultimately so very very few are ever truly interested in giving it up that it's fruitless. It is much more worthwhile to bake cookies than try to teach people who do not want to learn.

The only Bible I trust every word to be true is the King James Bible.
a) The King James Bible is a translation only.
b) it is impossible to perfectly translate the source languages of Scripture into English. There are too many differences in word meaning, verb tenses, idioms, etc.
c) The King James Bible is written in archaic Englyshe to a society that no longer exists.

How many people are capable of reading ancient Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek? Most of us have to read the Bible in English and depend on translations to be as accurate as possible. Even scholars disagree about what some of Scripture says/means.

Are you a Biblical scholar or do you depend on commentaries?

You don't need to if you have a King James Bible. ;)
What??? The King James Bible is a translation and has been modified many times in the past 400+ years. It was ordered by a secular king to codify his authority and his idea of Protestantism. It caused many people to flee his kingdom for other countries/lands, including the "pilgrims" who fled to the Western hemisphere with their Geneva Bibles.

Referring to the original languages is a must, to glean the true meaning of the scriptures.
Are you an expert in ancient Hebrew, Aramaic, and Koine Greek? Most of us are not, so we rely on translations. Additionally, scholars disagree about what the ancient texts say/mean, as well as their accuracy and authenticity.

I can already tell you that he relies upon commentaries and other TV preachers.

Because the scriptures are written in 4 languages and not just 3. Most don't know the 4th language or how to recognize it...or who is the culprit for writing in this 4th language.

Sokay. It's nice to know. But it definitely helps me out when choosing who to listen to.

That makes each one of us the final authority on what God has said. No thanks. I read the word. I study the word. I believe it. There's so much freedom in knowing I have the preserved words of God. If I don't...I could never be confident in anything I was reading.
What exactly do you mean by "the word"?

An example: Matthew 5:28 "But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. " The Greek word for "Lust" is neither good or bad. It's just a strong desire. In english, Lust is seen as always being evil. In Luke 22:5 Jesus used the same Greek word for lust when he said. "And he said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. "

Get a Strong's Concordance. Look up the words. It tells you the meaning of the words in the Greek and Hebrew.

1. Correct
2. Not necessarily, only the correct English words matter for English speakers
3. Millions use it every day including myself

This might seem like a strange question to ask here, but after having discussed the Bible for quite a while with folks, I have reached a point where I’m puzzled.

I know we disagree about many things, but some things are pretty clear in the Bible and there’s still a disagreement. I’m beginning to wonder if some Christians just don’t believe everything the Bible says. So I’m creating a poll where people can vote anonymously.

My answer is yes I believe everything the Bible says.
THE ISSUE, of course, is that "theology" creeps in, and provides us with it's own "Spin" on what the Bible says. The "systematic theologian" will fight to the death for their "Systematic's spin" on the Word, which after "Processing" may be quite different than what a simple reading of the Biblical text would yield.

My suspicion is that the "Babel effect" (Gen 11:9) is still present to prevent humans, in their "great wisdom", from building something that God doesn't want, and that one of the indications of the END TIMES will be the MATURE CHURCH of Ephesians 4:11-16 where there's real unity.

a yeah I think what happens is we try to understand the Bible based on what we already know about life and by what we have already heard in a church

sominstead of herring what the Bible says and believing letting that correct what we think , we take what we think and correct the Bible and call it “ interpreting “

a false doctrine is bad stuff we can start learning the wrong things in Sunday school and then when we grow up that becomes solid in us and hard to rebuke

ironically I believe most Christian’s would answer yes I believe the Bible but then it’s how they interpret it that causes the disagreements

the New Testament doesn’t need interpretation is the secret it is interpreting the old testsment which needed the holy ghosts revelations we receive in the New Testament

All we need to really do is start learning from tre New Testament letting what we learn change what we used to think or what we were taught before the Bible is there so we can know ourselves what z God has said will save us

the whole war in this world is between Gods word and the worlds lies the gospel is freely available in this world it’s for everyone that hears and believes it’s this

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:16‬ ‭

So the enemy has to do this

“But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:3-4‬ ‭

mostly we hear “ it’s all true but it’s not meant for you “ that’s a way to get a person to turn away from the truth

“ that’s all before the cross not for the church “ anything to turn my ears away fro salvstion

that’s salvstion by works not grace and faith ect

anything to turn my thinking and belief away from what God said will save my soul

My point is false teachers use peoples trust in the Bible to distort thier beliefs and gain control over them because they willingly believe the Bible but rely on another to “ interpret it “ for them
