Why is the church so accepting of divorce and remarriage?

It is and it isnt. Because unrepentant sin is grievous, and its heart breaking to send someone out. But its sometimes neccessary.

They could separate, eventually one would commit adultery and have the grounds for divorce.

Yes most throw God away and have sex before they are married. God is always correct. The worlds advice is follow your heart. That is not Gods advice( Jeremiah 17:9) Following Gods advice is always the best path choice.
