I waited for the countdown to zero. So what exactly were we suppose to expect? If the star does go supernova, how long will it take for the effects to reach us? What are the effects?

It IS fascinating though....and a little frightening to see it look so active!

The light has already travelled here. I suspect this went supernova over 600 years ago. We could see it at any moment, I think the effect will be a great sign as a warning.
