Since Freud first cast religion as a collective neurosis in the early 1900s, religion and psychology have historically eyed each other with suspicion, if not outright antagonism. Some psychologists argued that religious belief was a way of avoiding reality, while some religious leaders questioned the need for psychology when a person could turn to God.

Interesting statements. Do FBI profilers still collect info on 'serial' killers and did or do they collect info on 'mass' killers? Does this guy fit any profile? The book which Robert Ressler wrote, checks out in one case which pertained to a friend of mine when growing up. It was very surprising to read that book and see his profile accurately stated.

The book, 'Whoever Fights Monsters' and Ressler was consultant for the movie 'Silence of the Lambs'. Now I see they awarded an actor for portrayal of Jeffrey Dahmer. Apparently, this genre is alive and well.

Are 'mass' murderers also profiled? Are they all like this guy states, no sense of self-worth, suicidal, emotionless, and 'disconnected'. Maybe he was 'mentally ill' as certain type of disorder possibly 'dissociative'. Seems like stories in the news of people who randomly attack others are 'similar'. Big cities around the world seem to have these types of occurrences fairly regularly. i.e. stabbings and pushing people in front of trains.

Likely this guy's attorney will at least try for a mental disorder defense. Or maybe the attorney will claim something like a 'chemical' imbalance.

IDAHO MURDERS
Suspect felt ‘no emotion’ as a teen
NEW YORK TIMES
MOSCOW, Idaho — A criminology doctoral student charged with stabbing four University of Idaho students to death had written years ago of having suicidal thoughts, not being able to feel emotions and observing his own life as if it were a video game, saying he could do “whatever I want with little remorse.”
The new revelations about the suspect, Bryan Kohberger, come from posts he made on an online forum in which he discussed his mental health struggles, as well as from interviews with those who knew him and messages he sent to friends that were obtained by The New York Times. They paint a portrait of an anxious, isolated and depressed teenager who turned to heroin use before eventually getting clean and becoming fascinated with studying criminal psychology, saying then that he hoped to one day provide counseling for high-profile criminals.
“I feel like an organic sack of meat with no self worth,” he wrote in 2011, when he was 16, adding later, in the same post: “As I hug my family, I look into their faces, I see nothing, it is like I am looking at a video game, but less.”
Now, Kohberger, 28, is facing murder charges

Society’s role in stopping crime
When we are making decisions such as how to deal with convicted criminals, we must remember that these people are us. We are all one. However, anything destructive is working against life and must be dealt with. Destructive individuals should be allowed to experience the results of their actions and should be allowed to make any corrections they wish to make.

Our young delinquents are not delinquents by nature. They are neglected and they know it, and so they take their anger out on society. The solution is to provide them with loving attention. Society must change to do this.

There is a spiritual side and a practical side to every situation. It’s nice to allow everyone to do whatever they choose to do. That said, if a mass murderer is running around, then, from a practical perspective, the mass murderer must be stopped and society must be protected.

Whatever works in any situation is the way to go. As with everything in life, we are constantly evolving. From a practical perspective, we can’t go from today’s mass incarceration to incarcerating no one. Over time we will get there but, for now, we must protect society by incarcerating violent criminals. And we should try to rehabilitate them, not punish them, as best as we can

Yeah, right. Talk is cheap. How do you evangelical Christians sleep at night?
How do you sleep knowing that, as I see it, you allowed your country to slaughter well over 1 million Vietnamese human beings — all purportedly as retribution for the relatively piddling Gulf of Tonkin incident?

“Whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also’’ (Matthew 5:39). That is verbatim how your God instructed you to respond.
Do you truly appreciate just how beautifully magnanimous your God is? (Apparently, you don’t.) You defied those majestic words, permitting a slaughter instead.

Then, subsequently, hundreds of thousands more human beings in the nation of Iraq were likewise slaughtered. And many of you remained silent. Absolutely no one in that country was responsible for 9/11, and no Iraqis ever otherwise attacked you nor me. But, even if they had, your God has explicitly told you how to handle such a situation.

Slaughter is never an option. Violence only begets more violence. Today, Russia attacks and slaughters civilians in Ukraine, following the blood-soaked precedent that I believe you allowed to be set.

Perhaps if, over the years, you had pulled your heads out of the sand and had paid less attention to the potential life contained in the womb and instead paid more attention to the death and suffering inflicted upon actual living, breathing human life (much of it caused by your acquiescence), maybe the result would now be different.
Just how do you sleep?

there will always be misguided talk.
Almost certain that Lancaster Pennsylvania has a large Amish population. Maybe 2nd or 3rd largest in US. The person who sent that to the editor was likely not Amish or former Amish. But, over the last couple years that I have been reading LNP, there may have been 5 or 6 similar letters.

Likely, there are statistics to be derived even with just one letter as to how many people in that region are of the same or similar sentiment. Probably need to know circulation of hard copy and digital and regions population? Maybe? I'm no statistician.

- Interesting place.
- I remember.. Amish buggy.
According to the online LNP the Amish are being 'paved' over and now need to pursue work off the farm. I talked with a buggy shop owner, by phone, in Ohio about 4 years ago and his comment was, "I hope that Jesus returns soon". Statistics say the Amish are a fast-growing population and likely adds to the dilemma they face. i.e. No more self-contained community. Maybe they will need to integrate with the 'English'. English is what they call non-Amish.

There's good reason people like this are not allowed to be in charge or represent a group of people in a representative government.
Half truths and false accusations are never a positive.

Yeah....there's also a railroad museum there with Thomas the Tank engine and all kinds of train related stuff there.

Kinda like the transportation museum outside of St Louis.

The Lord loves how they care for one another, and join up to accomplish community projects.
We need to take this lesson and do as well.

So....effectively we are alone in the universe. It doesn't matter if there is life on other planets. Can't communicate with them and we can't get there.

I don't know but sounds like your answer also Is IDK,right?🤗
My answer is no way. He is not omniscient, so he cannot read our thoughts.
But I do believe he is a great observer of mankind. And as he has had millennia to perfect his trickery and we are as a group generally unaware of his practices, we are ofttimes easy prey.

But do you know of a scripture that says he can or can't?🤗

Not directly. But if he could, would he have bothered to tempt Jesus?
While scripture is silent directly, why would anyone attribute such a quality where scripture does not?
1 Kings 8:39 says God alone knows our hearts. Since out of the abundance of our hearts we speak, surely our thoughts arise from there too.
Make what you will of these things.

What the dEvil knows is this: he is doomed to destruction, his time is short, and humans devoid of faith are easy prey.

Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walketh about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
