Reminds me of:
James 4:13-17
[13] Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”—[14] yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. [15] Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” [16] As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. [17] So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

We have to be careful of this too: 1 Peter 33&4: "Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation."

I've been hearing that all of my life.
We have. Thing is, we have to always be in our guard no matter what. Remember the words of God through Peter: They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”

And then, The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

And yet, living in this lower world, we are EXPECTED to make plans. Plans for education, plans for a career, plans for a family, etc.
Plans, plans. Let it all go. Plans, plans, let it all go.
