A doomsday cult leader in Kenya has been teaching his followers to starve themselves to death. His group, Good News International Church, has ties to William Branham and the Latter Rain. Jim Jones was also heavily into Latter Rain and the end of the world scenario. I'm not sure if David Koresh was into Latter Rain but he definitely was into doomsday. Many cults preach doomsday; and of course they're the only ones who have the keys to escape it. Apparently, Paul MacKenzie in Kenya was teaching people they should starve themselves to death to hurry up their meeting with Jesus.

What am I not grasping in your opinion? Please enlighten me. Is it the fact that another doomsday cult is in the news, or that Jesus warned us about them?

He’s a fun dude around here. He’s like a ray of sunshine.

Hey @ResidentAlien

I know you don’t like to answer questions but here’s a few more.

Why do you argue, whine and complain so much with all your Protestant friends here even when they give you legitimate answers and respond to your questions while you avoid theirs and contradict yourself in the process as a few other members have mentioned to you directly ?
And why do you assume so many things about random people that you don't even know?
Do you think you're able to self reflect on why you are like this or why you seem like it's You vs The World?
And why are you always so depressive or negative in all your posts or exchanges with people and your fellow Protestants?
And how come you don't even have a sense of humor?
Also why do you waste so much time on nonsensical “he said, she said” topics which provide zero spiritual value?
Are you alone with nothing else to do?

Let's get back to the actual topic of the OP please? I think what he posted is legit. There ARE people who are trying to lead other people away from the Lord to their own destruction, such as that pastor in Kenya. I think it was nice that @ResidentAlien brought it to light so we can pray for those under the spell of the false pastor that they may escape.

I really don't understand the attack on @ResidentAlien in this thread.

Anyway..... Here's the first article that was listed in the OP.

Cult victim found alive after three days in Malindi grave
People were allegedly encouraged to fast to death to make it to heaven.

In Summary
  • The victims were allegedly being brainwashed by Pastor Mackenzie, according to the police.
  • At least seven more people have been rescued, bringing the total to 18, while three have died.

Detectives under the homicide unit have found one person alive after exhuming a grave linked to Shakahola church members.

The body has been unearthed in the Chakama area after an informer who was an insider in the church alleged that there is a mass shallow grave of victims totalling to 31 bodies.

The death of the four victims was announced on April 15 after starving for several days.

At least seven more people have been rescued, bringing the total to 18, while three have died.

In the cult, people were allegedly encouraged to fast to death to make it to heaven.

The controversial Malindi preacher Paul Mackenzie of Good News International has been preaching to his followers to fast and pray for several days and eventually, a number of them have died due to hunger.

Last month, Mackenzie was arrested by police officers over the death of two minors in similar circumstances but was released on a Sh10,000 police bond.

The victims were allegedly being brainwashed, according to the police.

“We are going to take legal action against the survivors as they had committed an offence of attempting suicide," they said.

-=<❤>=-

In the comments, someone wrote "What I don't understand is why he (the pastor, Paul Mackenzie) hasn't fasted and died him[self]."

Right? Why hasn't he done this himself? Something weird is going on. The same commenter also speculated that the pastor might be "a member of an hidden devil worshipping syndicate and uses this church to sacrifice people to this cause."

Kenya emergency

3.5 million people in urgent need of food assistance
Nearly 1 million children aged 6-59 months and pregnant or breastfeeding women are acutely malnourished

The drought that continues to ravage the Horn of Africa was declared a national disaster in Kenya in September 2021. It now spans four consecutive failed seasons and has resulted in close to 2.4 million livestock deaths, dried-out water sources and sharply reduced harvests.

The number of people in urgent need of food assistance has risen five-fold, from 739,000 in August 2020 to 3.5 million in June 2022. It is projected to rise to 4.4 million between October and December 2022, with a record 1.2 million people facing emergency levels of food scarcity.

The nutrition situation has deteriorated in most counties. About 884,000 children aged 6-59 months, and 115,700 pregnant or breastfeeding women, are acutely malnourished and in need of treatment, up from 755,000 and 103,000 respectively since February 2022. Rates of malnutrition are expected to continue worsening in 12 arid counties – Baringo, Garissa, Isiolo, Kilifi, Kitui, Kwale, Mandera, Marsabit, Samburu, Tana River, Turkana and Wajir.

The second article linked in the OP:

Emaciated followers found at Kenyan pastor's property;
4 dead

Police in coastal Kenya found 15 emaciated parishioners on the property of a church pastor, and four of the people died after the group was rescued and taken to a hospital, authorities said.

Police officials said investigators received a tip that dozens of people were starving to death after their pastor told them it was a way to meet Jesus. Most of the followers could not walk or talk when officers found them.

The pastor of Good News International Church, Paul Makenzi, surrendered Friday to police in the town of Malindi.

Makenzi was arrested and charged last month in the deaths of two children whose parents were members of his church. He pleaded not guilty and was released on bond while proceedings in the case continued.

The people who died Friday have not been identified, and their bodies were taken to a morgue in Malindi.

Residents had complained to local authorities about the pastor, accusing him of fostering growing cultism in the area. Cults are common in Kenya which has a largely religious society.

Police received information about a possible mass grave on the pastor's property, but initial searches did not locate one.

Investigations are ongoing, according to Malindi sub-county police boss John Kemboi.

-=<❤>=-

So this is something we can pray about, that Kenyans will not fall victim to cults and that they seek out and hold on to the Lord Jesus and His truth. I don't know what exactly happened though. I'm just so astonished that they all believed him. Didn't they all have the Holy Spirit to learn from and the Bible to study from with Him?

But thank God that there were neighbors who were concerned enough for them. If they hadn't gone through the effort of reporting the pastor to the authorities, how long would this have gone on for?

Also I'm thinking that maybe the pastor wanted them to die because of some secret he wanted to hide? This is just all so bizarre.

The third article from the OP:

Detectives Discover 12 Shallow Graves as Probe into
Pastor Paul Mackenzie’s 'Cult' Intensify

Picture of well-fed and healthy Pastor Paul Nthenge Mackenzie

Detectives investigating the activities of a cult led by controversial Pastor Paul Nthenge Mackenzie have discovered 12 shallow graves in Kilifi County.

The officers mapped out sections of the worship site at Shakahola Forest in Malindi County with the intention of exhuming the bodies.

During the operation conducted on Wednesday, four people were rescued, among them a female worshipper whose cry for help reached the detectives who were combing the scene. The woman, who was found lying in the forest, was weak and dehydrated.

The graves are believed to contain the remains of followers of Pastor Mackenzie’s Good News International Church who died while fasting in their attempt to “meet God.”

Police believe there are more graves in the wooded area after Mackenzie’s followers allegedly flattened them to conceal the graves.

Plans are underway to exhume the bodies from the shallow graves for further investigations and to facilitate justice.

At least 10 members of the cult have so far lost their lives after fasting to death in an attempt to meet God as advised by Pastor Mackenzie. Others who were rescued are recuperating in hospital.

On Monday, Malindi Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Usui ordered the detention of Pastor Mackenzie for 14 days pending investigations into the deaths of his followers.

Mackenzie, who is accused of influencing worshippers to fast to death, is being held alongside six of his followers. Seven other followers whom the prosecution described as victims as they refused to eat even while in police custody will be held for seven days for counseling.

The magistrate also canceled a Sh10,000 police bond granted to Mackenzie in an earlier case where he is accused of influencing two minors to fast to death.

Magistrate Usui said the fact that one of the preacher’s victims requested to be released to go and continue with his prayers and fasting in Shakahola was evident enough that such activities were still going on in the area and that releasing the suspects could lead to witness interference.

-=<❤>=-

So this article reveals more about the mental state of these cult victims - they've entirely bought into the false teachings of the pastor lock, stock and barrel.

I thought that maybe the pastor kind of forced them into it, but when you see a number of them wanting to - willingly to - continue to starve themselves, it makes me wonder that maybe they think living is so bad that they'd just rather go home to the Lord?

I hope they continue to follow up on these victims to know what happens next. I hope some real Christian ministry will go visit them and show them what it actually says in the Bible about committing suicide and that we should trust in the Lord and let Him decide when we should go home to Him. And that even though like sucks right now, it can suck less if they focus on God more.

Those poor deluded victims never wondered why that lunatic isn't starving himself for the same reason he encouraged them to?

This cult leader has been released. Do they have a death penalty in Kenya?

April 21,2023 Kenya police begin exhuming remains from suspected Christian cult graves
https://www.reuters.com/world/afric...s-suspected-christian-cult-graves-2023-04-21/

From Wikipedia it says that Kenya still has death penalty sentencing, but they haven't actually carried through on any executions since 1987. Also, occasionally Kenyan presidents have commuted all death sentences that were current during their terms to life sentences.

I really do hope they keep up with the reporting. I wonder why the pastor wants people, including children, to want to die. I'm having a hard time believing it's because he wants them to be with Jesus sooner than later.

Just because he names Jesus doesn't mean Jesus knows his name.

I think the guy is working for Satan.

Right? Someone commented on the first article that he's suspecting that the pastor might belong to some satanic cult and that these poor deluded people are his sacrifices.

Also have you ever heard of the Sewol Ferry tragedy in South Korea? This was on April 16, 2014. About 300 high school students on a field trip to Jeju Island along with regular passengers and shipping crates were on board (more than usual capacity). On the way though, they struck something and the ship began to fill up. The captain put on a recorder that told every one - especially the students - to stay inside their rooms. Asians are generally rule followers so most of them stayed inside as they were told.

And you know what happened next? The captain and crew LEFT! They got rescued by the national guard. The guard didn't even bother to look to see that there were still a ton of people inside the boat. So most of the students died. The vice principal of the high school who arranged this field trip got rescued but was so devastated that they committed suicide. The letter left said something like they wanted to be with the students to take care of them. It was so sad!

Anyway, it really did look intentional and an investigation was conducted. As a result, the President of South Korea actually got impeached and replaced very quickly because there was evidence that she prevented their rescue AND is associated with a very influential but secretive cult.

=<❤>=-

So there seems to be an increased pattern of cult activity associated with large amounts of deaths. I became aware of them as a kid with the Jonestown murders, and then Waco Texas siege and then all these news reports we're talking about now. It will probably happen more often and with larger numbers of victims as time goes by.

I had not heard of the boat tragedy. 😥 That's horrific. And the captain and crew have to live with all those murdered drowned souls on their conscience. God rest them. 😔🙏
