Hope He knew Christ at the time of his last breath. One by one our cultural icons and pop stars die.
Carol Burnett just celebrated her 90th birthday. Barbara Eden is... 91? Bob Newhart's in his early 90s. Dick Van Dyke is... 96 I think. Joyce Randolph, living in my hometown, is about 98. William Shatner's about 90. Tina Louise is...?? Poor thing did not age well.
I'd love to meet all of these people before they leave, and take advantage of any witnessing opportunity presented -- assuming none of them is saved at this moment. But, one way or the other, they too will pass. All of them. All of these people I grew up with will die. What they did will be appreciated by less and less. It's so depressing. My only hope (and prayer) is that they have come to Christ and I'll get to sit with them in Heaven.

I wasn't a fan of his show, but I was sad to hear of his passing. Jerry Springer was a big deal in the 90's. Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!
I was honored to have conversations with a retired drama teacher who talked about his red haired student from long ago. I visited with him at a nursing home. He was there with something apparently minor and needed some assistance. It's hard to recover in a nursing home. What he was provided for meals/ meds caused advanced diabetes quickly. Just a side note for those who are considering that option for family.
Anyway, he had an interesting history. He went into details about a lady who was searching for direction about a career. He contributed as an influence in her life to consider a direction she seemed well suited for. Eventually her performances led to The Carol Burnett Show.

he did a " legit" talk show for a while, then started doing the trash t v stuff and took off.
says a lot about culture. but that is another discussion....
I'll never forget watching the Jerry Springer show for the first time soon after it started and there was a guy on that show named "Danny the Pony Boy" who was wearing a saddle on his back along with stirrups and women paid him money to ride on his back and whip him etc.. A boyfriend of one of the women who pays him for his services was on the show and spoke about how bizarre that was and how upset he was about it. Danny the Pony Boy even gave a demonstration with a volunteer from the audience on how he gives these rides to women, kind of bunking bronco style. It was one of the most bizarre things I have ever seen!

Yeah, I could agree with that. But, the notice of his death provided a bit of a shock, and that just stimulated the nostalgia I feel for genuine 'icons' I grew up with.

like seeing a movie and realizing that it is 30 years old, lol!!

Not very many recover from that type of cancer...I just searched for his cause of death. Turns out Mr. Springer died from an aggressive
form of pancreatic cancer. He and his family had chosen to keep his battle out of the news.
So sad.

I agree, it's just a shock to realise that era, those years have gone. Springer reminds me of my younger times. I found his shows mainly great relaxing fun, shocking but eye-opening to the extremes of human character. It's not his fault, the people who decided to come on his programme were who they were and he just provided the stage.
He was a clever man who found a winning formula, the first reality TV.
"I am not the father of that child!"

Let's face it, Springer made his fortune and fame from a trashy show that denigrated poor whites, blacks, and uneducated people. His show encouraged physical altercations between people on the show, at every opportunity.
So, what did Springer gain from this show? The tabloids say that his new worth at the time of his death was $60million. I disagree!!!!!!!!!!!! The net worth of anyone at the time of their death, in terms of dollars, is $0.00000/zero/nada/nothing.
The true net worth is the treasure they saved in heaven. That being said, I liked Jerry, and hope that Jesus grants him the true treasure of eternal life.

were taught they were to be kept private. This saying exemplifies it: Do not air your dirty laundry in public.
