The gifts were in operation in the early churches. Corinth abused all the gifts & Paul rebuked them for it.
1. No scripture of any kind(especially 1 Cor 13:8-10)says the gifts end.
2. The gifts have always been abused throughout the church age.... but that's no reason to judge others for it.

Speaking in tongues has absolutely nothing to do with "delivering the gospel." When a person speaks in tongues, he is speaking to God, not to people (1 Cor 14:2). He is praying in the spirit (1 Cor 14:15). Speaking in tongues is not a witnessing tool.


Every Christian has the ability to speak in tongues (1 Cor 12:7), and God would like every Christian to do it (1 Cor 14:5).


"Mostly"? What about Acts 2? Acts 19? What about Paul saying (by revelation) that he would like all Christians to speak in tongues? Why, exactly, do you think speaking in tongues is no longer necessary?
He also said not all do. And spoke of different gifts for different purposes to different people.
Also mostly just means mostly, not all, which means there are likely exceptions. Also Acts 2 was about delivering the Gospel.

Wouldn't speaking in tongues be annoying and off-putting, for people in the congregation who don't do it?!
Which is why Speaking in Tongues in Private Personal Prayer, which edifies the ONE Speaking in Tongues, is the best place to do it.

One other time I did it, because I felt it Necessary. I was with my Grandfather, Pastor and Teacher of Hebrew, was called by a family who attended the Church, around 11 P.M. [Grandpa/Dad/Myself] went to the Emergency. We thought typical Pastor House Call...:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

The family lived in the country on a dirt road with an even rougher mile long drive. Pitch black until you pass the barn and suddenly the front of the house is revealed with a small porch light on. We get there and many people just start coming out the home, all family members. They're trying to warn us about this room and we're just not really understanding. So we follow them and it wasn't long after we got it.

I don't know how to describe what we saw, felt, the thing in that room just felt like water over your pores, smothering. the hairs on my body were like being zapped by 3-phase electricity. a dryness just swallowed the insides of my mouth making hard to talk like choking. We just stood there praying under our breathes. And the youngest one in the room, I just began Speaking in Tongues. The more Bolder I got, the less pressure I was feeling from this entity. Even though, it required speaking the words, Get Thee Behind me Satan in the Name of Jesus, by my Grandfather, we all agreed the Praying in Tongues acted like a Spiritual Warfare Defuser that Edified Grandpa/Dad/Myself and broke the power of the Enemy and the proper Usage of Jesus Name became a Commandment this thing had to obey.

I would not hesitate to do the exact same thing back then today if needed.

The purpose of the apostles speaking in tongues on the day of Pentecost was not to deliver the gospel. What the others heard were "the wonderful works of God." Peter and those with him heard Cornelius "magnify God." Again, when a person speaks in tongues he is speaking TO God (1 Cor 14:2). In Acts 2, AFTER the apostles spoke in tongues, Peter stood up and began delivering the gospel.

No, the gospel is telling people about Jesus Christ and how they can become saved. Peter did that after the apostles spoke in tongues.

Peter's sermon absolutely was the gospel. The apostles' speaking in tongues prior to Peter's sermon was not the gospel.

Please see my response to Beckie. When the apostles had finished speaking in tongues, Peter preached the gospel to the people.

No! Where does it say he was not speaking in tongues so they could understand the Gospel he was preaching?

Peter had stopped speaking in tongues and began speaking to them in his known language. He knew what he was saying. When a person speaks in tongues, he does not understand what he is saying:

Acts 2 does not say what you want it to say .

So does speaking in tongues mean that you're speaking English, or is it your own personal language? Sorry, but I don't know anything about it.
