Is it because the greater a believer's hardships in life, the greater his or her Abrahamic blessings?

That passage speaks of salvation through Christ, and there is no variance in that. All those who are justified by grace through faith (as was Abraham) are deemed to be children of God. "... and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed... " It is only in and through Christ that the blessings of God come upon those who believe on Him. If all would believe, all would be saved.

Christ is called "the Seed" (or descendant) of Abraham. The lineage of Christ goes all the way to Adam through Abraham, who is called "the father" of all who believe.
